一．教学目标:
1.能通过阅读理解语篇的大意并获取所需的信息。
2.能根据阅读中获得的信息回答为什么雨林对我们来说很重要。
3.能根据所给的关键词来复述雨林的重要性。
4.能针对“我们应该做什么来保护热带雨林”这一问题，先口头表达自己的观点和看法，再写成一篇短文。
二．教学内容
1.学习本课的一些词汇：rainforest, cover, control, climate, rubber等。
2.学习本课的一些表达法：the lungs of the earth, control the climate,
hold the water, keep the water cycling , play an important part in等。
三．教学过程
Step 1 Lead-in
Lead in the title “rainforests” by pictures of trees and a guessing game.
Step 2 Prediction
Get the students to predict what will be talked about in the passage.
Step 3 First-reading
Get the students to read the passage for the first time to get the main idea of each paragraph.
Step 4 Second-reading
Get the students to read the passage for the second time to get the details of each paragraph.
Step 5 Analysis of difficult sentences
Show the whole passage on the screen and get the students to find out what they haven’t understood to help them get a better understanding of the passage.
Step 6 Further-thinking
Guide the students to think about the two questions “What’s the problem with rainforests now? and “why?” to get the conclusion “Now, rainforests are becoming smaller and smaller. So we should protect them.”
Step 7 Group work
Discuss “How should we protect rainforests ?” in groups and share their opinions with the whole class. And then try to write a short passage.
Step 8 Sum up
Step 9 Homework
Write a short passage “How to protect rainforests”
Recite the second paragraph “Rainforests are important to us”
Finish the exercises in Section C in the workbook.

There are lots of tall trees and other different kinds of plants. Thousands and thousands of animals live in rainforests. Many of them live in the trees over 30 meters from the ground.

They also help to hold the water when it rains and keep the water cycling. They play an important part in controlling the climate. Rainforests also help to keep the beauty of nature.
