“I am not crazy,” says Dr. William Farber, shortly after performing acupuncture (针灸) on a rabbit. “I am ahead of my time.” If he seems a little defensive, it might be because even some of his coworkers occasionally laugh at his unusual methods. But Farber is certain he’ll have the last laugh. He’s one of a small but growing number of American veterinarians (兽医) now practicing “holistic” medicine—combining traditional Western treatments with acupuncture, chiropractic (按摩疗法) and herbal medicine.
Farber, a graduate of Colorado State University, started out as a more conventional veterinarian. He became interested in alternative treatments 20 years ago when he suffered from terrible back pain. He tried muscle-relaxing drugs but found little relief. Then he tried acupuncture, an ancient Chinese practice, and was amazed that he improved after two or three treatments. What worked on a veterinarian seemed likely to work on his patients. So, after studying the techniques for a couple of years, he began offering them to pets.
Leigh Tindale’s dog Charlie had a serious heart condition. After Charlie had a heart attack, Tindale says, she was prepared to put him to sleep, but Farber’s treatments eased her dog’s suffering so much that she was able to keep him alive for an additional five months. And Priscilla Dewing reports that her horse, Nappy, “moves more easily and rides more comfortably” after a chiropractic adjustment.
Farber is certain that the holistic approach will grow more popular with time, and if the past is any indication, he may be right: Since 1982, membership in the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association has grown from 30 to over 700. “Sometimes it surprises me that it works so well,” he says. “I will do anything to help an animal. That’s my job.”
1.What do some of Farber’s coworkers think of him
A. He’s odd. B. He’s strict. C. He’s brave. D. He’s rude.
2.Why did Farber decide to try acupuncture on pets
A. He was trained in it at university. B. He was inspired by another veterinarian.
C. He benefited from it as a patient. D. He wanted to save money for pet owners.
3.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. Steps of a chiropractic treatment. B. The complexity of veterinarians’ work.
C. Examples of rare animal diseases. D. The effectiveness of holistic medicine.
4.Why does the author mention the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association
A. To prove Farber’s point. B. To emphasize its importance.
C. To praise veterinarians. D. To advocate animal protection.

Apologizing is crucial in maintaining healthy and meaningful relationships. It provides a way to demonstrate that we value the people around us. 1 It also restores trust, and enhances deeper connections with others.
When we hurt someone, whether intentionally or not, it creates emotional distance and has negative effects on the connection we share. 2 It shows that we take responsibility for our actions and care about the impact they’ve had on the other person. By acknowledging our mistakes, we open the door to healing, enabling both sides to move forward.
3 A real apology is a perfect expression of these values. When we apologize truthfully, without excuses or justifications, we demonstrate honesty. When we approach a desire to make things right, we convey kindness.
Apologizing also taps into a universal human need for connection and harmony. When conflicts arise, an effective apology serves as a crucial step toward restoring communication and refreshing our commitment to those we care about. 4
Lastly, a sincere apology includes a commitment to change. It’s not enough to simply say sorry. 5 This commitment reassures the other person that we value the relationship and are committed to personal growth.
A. A heartfelt apology helps to bridge that gap.
B. A sincere or true apology allows us to heal wounds.
C. But sometimes apology makes us quite embarrassed.
D. We are encouraged to speak with honesty and kindness.
E. We must also show a willingness to learn from our mistakes.
F. Despite this recognition, an apology can feel empty or insincere.
G. In this way, apologizing strengthens the bonds that tie us together.

根据第一段中的 “... some of his coworkers occasionally laugh at his unusual methods”可知,Farber的一些同事嘲笑他的方法不同寻常,由此说明他的同事认为他很怪异(odd),故A 项正确。

选项中的gap承接上文的emotional distance;后一句的It 代替选项中的A heartfelt apology。
3.D 空后一句中的关键词these values 和下文提到的honesty 和kindness解释了these values, 故D项 “我们被鼓励以诚实和善良的方式说话”涵盖关键词honesty 和 kindness 且承接these values。

contribute...to...
7.Though/Although/While 考查让步状语从句。 故填Though/Although/While。
