一、教材分析
学习英语的过程是一个积极主动地学习过程，一个不断提高语言运用能力和人文素养的过程。强调学生的参与和体验。通过创设良好的语言环境和提供大量的语言实践的机会，使学生通过自己的体验、感知、实践、参与和交流，形成语感并且在教师的引导下，通过观察、发现和归纳等方式，掌握语言的规律，形成有效的学习策略。
外研版阅读课活动的设计均采用读前、读中、读后三个步骤，力求对学生阅读的全过程给予针对性的指导。本模块主要谈论的是参加国外的暑期英语课程，这是一个比较有争议而且受地域限制的话题。此话题对于某些地区的学生来说可能比较陌生，教师可以通过报刊、杂质、网络等多种学习资源为学生提供背景知识，开阔学生的视野。
本单元的课文是关于洛杉矶暑期英语课程的宣传。课文分别从课程、师资、住宿和活动等几方面进行宣传，语言具有说服力和感染力。本单元各项活动主要以注重培养学生的阅读及写作能力为目的，重视学生的体验和参与，最终体现学以致用的原则。
二、学情分析
通过初中一年半的英语学习，部分学生已能听懂有关熟悉话题的语段和简短的故事，能就熟悉的话题交换纤细，能读懂语篇故事，能写便条贺简单的书信，但由于各种因素的影响，尤其是农村学生，英语基础普遍不高，本班学生英语水平参差不齐，学习很吃力，因此实行小组教学，利用优生带动差生，营造良好的学习英语的氛围。
本单元的生词虽然不多，但文章篇幅大，且句子较长，学生理解起来有一点的难度，好在本单元的话题能够引起同学们的学习兴趣。
