Cathy Winston is a sports nutritionist.Among her regulars are athletes.Cathy thrives on the variety, with each new sport providing new challenges and a renewed appreciation of her chosen field of expertise. In her view, dealing with athletes from various sport backgrounds helps her become seasoned, which is a key part of being a successful nutritionist.“You have to understand nutrition and people, and then you can begin to work in this field,” she says.“Besides,in tennis you must learn to be reactive because you don't know how long the match lasts. However,it's 90 minutes in football so you know what you're fueling for.”
Regardless of the sport,Cathy's attitude remains the same:Any athlete failing to respect nutrition is one who is failing to fulfill their potential. It's a key part of the training process. It's not just something that you take casually. She advises her athletes to hold nutrition in the same regard as they do their most crucial bit of equipment.“Just as you wouldn't forget to put your shin pads (护腿板) or your boots in your kit bag, don't forget to put in your drinks and your snacks. That informs how well you train, because you can't get out if you haven't put in.”
Nutritionists are sometimes unfairly represented as militant (斗志昂扬的) types telling what athletes can and can't eat.But Cathy insists that when to eat is more important than what.“It's about when's the right time to have it in,” she says. It's a message that Cathy says can take a while to sink in.“A lot of boxers say,‘but bananas make you fat, right?’,and there's this inherent belief that we mustn't eat those kinds of things. But it's not about what to cut out. It's about making sure that you've got the foundation right for health and performance. It's that one size fits one. It's what works for you.To be an excellent athlete, you really need to be an exceptional eater.”
4.What does Cathy think about her job?( )
A.It hardly faces new challenges in every competition.
B.It mainly focuses on the duration of matches.
C.It merely needs to understand nutrition and people.
D.It highly values experience and flexibility.
5.How does Cathy emphasize the importance of nutrition to athletes?( )
A.By making a comparison.
B.By analyzing a phenomenon.
C.By telling a story.
D.By providing data.
6.According to Cathy, what is a fundamental principle behind successful sports nutrition?( )
A.Focusing on the timing of the diet.
B.Cutting out specific foods from the diet.
C.Following a strict and militant diet plan.
D.Increasing the variety of foods.
7.What does the author intend to tell us?( )

It has been five years since I left my staff job and became self-employed.I remember my terror as I walked out of the office for the last time and the excitement when I sold my first piece days later.Working for yourself, setting your own hours and being responsible for your success or failure are exciting.I left my job just as summer was starting, and my first few months were as blissful as the fair days.
When winter came,an office where someone else paid for the heating system and my salary was guaranteed seemed attractive.January is tough for freelancers, and it was no different for me—after masses of work,I earned none.I shared my fears with some businesswomen I knew—what if the reality would be more like what I was experiencing?
Whether through choices or circumstances, the number of freelancers is rising and,if you're just starting out,it is scary.I've been lucky that these women making money their own way shared key lessons about what it takes.
You can't feel half-hearted about what you do because,at some point, you're going to have painful days. When that happens, you have to remember why you wanted this life in the first place.Don't quit your job for something that you think might be more interesting;quit it for something you can't stop thinking about.
Setting up a business is tough.Rather than waiting until all is perfect,go for the moment when it feels as if momentum (势头) is with you.Look after yourself. There is no sick pay when you are self-employed.You can't do a bad day's work and blame it on your boss. You are the backbone of your business and you need to prioritize your health and well-being.Rest regularly and find like-minded people to support you and lift you up when things get hard.
Finally, enjoy it.Freedom is yours and,if you can make it work, there is nothing better.
8.How did the author feel when she was self-employed in paragraph 1?( )
A.Pleased. B.Challenged.
C.Awful. D.Bored.
9.What bothered the author when winter came?( )
A.Masses of freelance work.
B.Failure to meet daily basics.
C.The change in her own taste.
D.The unexpected cold weather.
10.According to the author, why should we quit for a new job?( )
A.To escape from the current pain.
B.To satisfy our temporary interests.
C.To pursue what we really desire.
D.To explore where our strengths lie.
11.What's the author's probable attitude towards becoming freelancers?( )
A.Unclear. B.Critical.

Cathy Winston is a sports nutritionist.Among her regulars are athletes.Cathy thrives on the variety, with each new sport providing new challenges and a renewed appreciation of her chosen field of expertise. In her view, dealing with athletes from various sport backgrounds helps her become seasoned, which is a key part of being a successful nutritionist.“You have to understand nutrition and people, and then you can begin to work in this field,”she says.“Besides,in tennis you must learn to be reactive because you don't know how long the match lasts.
Nutritionists are sometimes unfairly represented as militant (斗志昂扬的) types telling what athletes can and can't eat.But Cathy insists that when to eat is more important than what.“It's about when's the right time to have it in,”she says.

My First Experience in Career
Last month,I had the privilege of participating in our school's initiative,“My First Experience in Career”.It aimed to provide students like me with a glimpse into diverse professions.
My journey began at a local hospital, where I shadowed a diligent nurse for a day.Witnessing her interactions with patients, meticulous care, and swift decision-making,I gained a deeper understanding of the immense responsibility and compassion required in this noble profession. It was an eye-opening experience that left me grateful for the healthcare workers who tirelessly save lives.
This practical experience transformed me,increasing my knowledge and igniting ambition.I'm thankful to our school for organizing such a meaningful program and excited for future opportunities.

A couple of years ago I graduated from art school. After graduation I was unsure of what to do with my degree.I had majored in illustration (插画专业) and loved it,but didn't really feel interested in doing illustrations for any companies. This left me with few options other than freelance (自由职业的) jobs and taking care of kids for others.
I spent two years working as a babysitter, doing freelance illustrations on the side.It just wasn't quite enough to pay rent, but I loved it,so I worked well over 50 hours a week, trying to keep up with both.
Just under a year ago I went to a friend's wedding.I couldn't think of a gift for them and really didn't have a lot of money to spare,so I used my talents to create a portrait (肖像) for them.It wasn't much, but I hoped it would be a good gift. When I handed the portrait to them and they unwrapped it,the looks on their faces were something I did not expect. There were joyful tears in their eyes as they cried,“That's us!This is so beautiful!”
It's funny because when I was in art school, portraits were always my least favourite assignment.I hated drawing people and was always so much more interested in drawing little furry creatures.Once I saw the looks on my friends'faces after giving them their portrait,it was all over.I suddenly loved portraits and wanted to do more.
I now take portraits to every wedding I go to and have given them as gifts to the families I babysit for.Every time the reaction makes all of the hard work and time I put into them so worth it.I've just started offering couple, family and pet portraits as an item on my Etsy shop.

Quick facts about OPT
Year after year, international students from around the world come to the US in pursuit of one of the best educational offers in the world. 1 But for others the goal is to work in the US after graduation.
What is OPT
2 Every international student in the US entitled (使有权利) to 12 months of practical training (i.e.work) in the US under OPT.Typically,if you are not a citizen of a particular country, then you are not allowed to work in that country without proper documents.Similarly,as an international student in the US without proper documents,OPT is one that allows you to do so.
It is also important to note that students studying in the STEM fields get a 24-month extension in addition to the normal 12 months for a total of 36 months.
3
However,OPT only gives international students 12 months of employment. In the long run, foreigners would seek an H1-B visa in order to work in the US for the long term. 4 You will first need to find an company that would like to sponsor (赞助) you for your H1-B visa. This means that you have to apply for jobs, and on top of that, you have to make sure that if you accept a job offer, that company will want to pay the additional fee to sponsor you.
Why not go straight for an H1-B after graduation
As stated previously,a company is required to sponsor you in order for you to be eligible (合格的) for an H1-B visa. This means that if you break the law, then the company sponsoring you will share responsibility in one way or another. Some companies might view sponsoring an international student as a legal responsibility. 5 If your goal really is to work in the US in the long run, then the OPT gives you a period of time to prove yourself to the company you'd like to work for.
A.They wish to give others a hand.
B.How can you apply for a suitable college
C.Thus they may not want to go that extra mile.
D.OPT simply stands for Optional Practical Training.
E.What if you want to work in the US for longer than that
F.Many students plan to make use of their degrees back home.
G.Similar to applying for universities, there are requirements to apply for an H1-B visa.
文章主要介绍了关于OPT(可选实践培训)的一些事实。

故填made。]
(create) in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644)作后置定语。

故填the。]
故填is controlled。]

We were sitting in her classroom, giggling, playing tricks on each other and talking about the latest information of the day.Mrs.Virginia DeView cleared her throat and asked us to be quiet.
“Now,”she said smiling,“we are going to discover our professions.”The class seemed to gasp(喘气) in chorus. Our professions? We stared at each other in disbelief. After all,we were only 13 and 14 years old.
Because Virginia DeView was demanding, most of us just overlooked her brilliance.
“Yes,you will all be searching for your future professions,”she said with a glow on her face as though this was the best thing she did in her classroom every year.“You will have to do a research paper on your upcoming career. Each of you will have to interview someone in your field, plus give an oral report.”
All of us went home confused.Who knows what they want to do at 13?I had narrowed it down, however.I liked art, singing and writing. But I was terrible in art,and when I sang,my sisters screamed,“Oh,please shut up.”The only thing left was writing.
Every day in her class,Virginia DeView monitored us.Where were we?Who had picked their careers? Finally, most of us had selected something:I picked print journalism(新闻工作).This meant I had to interview a devoted newspaper reporter in person, and I was terrified.Sensing this, for the next 90 minutes,Mrs.Virginia DeView filled me with stories about print journalism...
A few days later,I gave my oral report totally from memory.Surprisingly,I got an A on the entire project.
Years later,I forgot all about Virginia DeView and the careers we selected.I was in college hunting for a new career. My father wanted me in business, which seemed to be sound advice at the time, except that I had no sense of any business skills. Then I remembered Virginia DeView and my desire at 13 to be a journalist.
I called my father.
Now I've had the most incredible and satisfying reporting career.

I called my father. And I told him about my dream of becoming a journalist. His initial reaction was surprise, then confusion, and finally, understanding. He said,“Remember, you were always more into the arts and writing than business.Perhaps Virginia DeView's class was a sign of what you should truly pursue.”His words resonated with me,and I realized that I had been suppressing my true passion for years.I thanked him for his support and told him that I would pursue journalism with all my heart.
Now I've had the most incredible and satisfying reporting career. I've interviewed world leaders, uncovered major stories, and written articles that have changed people's lives.I often think back to Virginia DeView's class and how she inspired me to follow my dreams.I'm grateful to her for planting that seed in my young mind and helping me realize my potential.I've come to understand that a successful career is not just about making money or following trends, but about finding something that you're truly passionate about and dedicating yourself to it.Virginia DeView's class was the start of my journey to discovering my true calling, and I'm forever grateful to her for that.
