If the benefits of physical activity were made into a pill, everyone would be on it.Studies show that moving improves nearly every aspect of health: boosting sleep, strength, and mental well-being.Still,most people don't exercise nearly enough.According to data published in 2023,less than a third of US adults get the government-recommended amount of physical activity in their free time: at least 20 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise per day, plus a couple of muscle-strengthening sessions each week.
Why is it so tough to get people to do something so good for them Physical limitations, health problems and modern life are certainly factors for many people. But research suggests there's another factor: our brains don't want us to exercise. For most of human existence, people had to be physically active to carry out the basic functions of life, such as finding food.Humans evolved (进化) to tolerate a high level of activities—but also to conserve energy for when movement was unnecessary, explains Daniel Lieberman,a human evolutionary biologist. In nowadays society,we no longer move much in daily life, but the evolutionary instinct (本能) to conserve energy remains,Lieberman says.“That voice ‘I don't want to exercise,’ is completely normal and natural,” he says.
Physical-activity researcher Matthieu Boisgontier demonstrated that phenomenon in a study. He gave people control of a digital avatar (化身) while they were connected to brain-activity monitors. They were instructed to move the avatar away from images of sedentary (久坐的) behaviour that appeared on screen and towards images of physical activity. The study found that avoiding sedentary behaviour took more brain power, suggesting that we have an “automatic tendency” to pick relaxing over moving.
That conclusion shows up repeatedly in research.Studies show, for example, that people consistently choose to take a lift instead of the stairs.“That natural instinct isn't bad—it's just that modern life gives us so many chances to give in to our preference for rest that we have reached an extreme that is no longer beneficial to our health,” Boisgontier says.

The solution to any despair might be hope, experts say. It's believing in a brighter future and acting towards it. 1 Here are strategies that can help cultivate hope.As Hellman,an assistant professor of psychology at Suffolk University in Boston, points out,“Hope begets hope, and it has such a significant protective factor.”
2 Make it a point to always be working towards at least one goal that's meaningful,Hellman advises. In other words,it shouldn't be something you have to do but something you want to do.“Goals can be anything that's important to us,” he says.
Brainstorm solutions. If you've set a goal that's meaningful to you,but you can't figure out a way to achieve it,you'll probably feel pretty hopeless.People who are high in hope, meanwhile, tend to generate lots of ways. 3 If you're struggling to make a plan,Hellman suggests sitting down with a pen and paper and giving yourself an hour to brainstorm solutions.
Seek out success stories. It's said that people cultivate hope by seeking support from their parents and specific teachers. But they also got a lot out of learning about other people who have done well for themselves.Hellman says,“ 4 ”
Tap into your imagination.Hellman thinks of imagination as “the instrument of hope”.Let's say you set a goal for the week.Spend a few minutes reflecting on or talking about what would happen if you achieved it.“How does it impact you,or how would it benefit others?” he says.“ 5 And when you can see yourself in the future, that is the very essence of hope.”
A.Do something meaningful.
B.It can be taught and nurtured.
C.Think in a goal-oriented way.
D.With these good examples, people are bound to be successful.
E.So,if one doesn't work out, they have an alternative at the ready.

G.You and I have this wonderful capacity to play a movie in our head.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Most people think that procrastination (拖延症) is a negative habit. But people like me who routinely put off doing assignments, are likely to defend our “slower” approach to getting tasks done.
I'm the only procrastinator in my family. My parents and sister were all born with the “do it right now” gift. They are always in a rush,as if closely rushed by an invisible deadline.Personally,I prefer a more relaxed pace. When my parents voiced their concern about my tendencies, saying “Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today,” “No way!” I responded, confidently presenting my research as a defense. It said people procrastinated when they need to solve a problem or commit to a topic or project. In these cases, delaying a decision can be beneficial. This was because our minds continue to reflect on problems even when we were not actively thinking about them, which could lead to more creative solutions. My findings filled me with satisfaction and pride. My method of getting things done was just as good as my sister's...or so I thought.
At school we'd been talking about architecture and design. As part of the final assessment my teacher Mr.Smith announced an exciting project that each student would have a month to complete. We were expected to choose our materials, construct a small building and make use of things we had learnt in class. Not only would the winners receive extra credits, but the winning constructions would be proudly displayed in the cafeteria.“I have no clue how I could get it done,” my friend Nate sighed in despair.I didn't say anything. Not because I shared his anxiety—but because I was not nervous at all.I loved hands-on projects! Picturing my brilliant work exhibited in the cafeteria,I was fully convinced that I would definitely produce something that could impress everyone. So relaxed was I that I didn't give it a second thought for weeks.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Before I knew it,I had only one day left for the project.

That taught me a great lesson.

【参考范文】
Before I knew it,I had only one day left for the project. In a panic I hastily and quickly glued together what I pulled out from our recycle bin,my hands shaking with the weight of each hasty decision. The finished result looked miserable.Several of my classmates, including Nate, had created amazingly detailed constructions. They used materials like clay, wood and so on and were highly praised by Mr.Smith.When I saw their models,I felt even more embarrassed about mine.It was obvious that they had put a lot more time into the assignment than I had.
That taught me a great lesson.I learnt from that day the importance of deciding on my priorities and budgeting my time. From then on,I tackled things a lot earlier instead of putting things off until tomorrow. As a result, not only did I finish my tasks on time, but also I felt better because I didn't have to panic at the last minute. At the end of the semester,my work was chosen by Mr.Smith on another occasion.Seeing my change,my parents and my sister were so proud of me.It dawned on me that getting things done on time instead of being a procrastinator really counted.

Most people think that procrastination (拖延症) is a negative habit. But people like me who routinely put off doing assignments, are likely to defend our “slower”approach to getting tasks done.
I'm the only procrastinator in my family. My parents and sister were all born with the “do it right now”gift. They are always in a rush,as if closely rushed by an invisible deadline.Personally,I prefer a more relaxed pace. When my parents voiced their concern about my tendencies, saying “Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today,”“No way!”I responded, confidently presenting my research as a defense.
Not only would the winners receive extra credits, but the winning constructions would be proudly displayed in the cafeteria.“I have no clue how I could get it done,”my friend Nate sighed in despair.I didn't say anything. Not because I shared his anxiety—but because I was not nervous at all.I loved hands on projects! Picturing my brilliant work exhibited in the cafeteria,I was fully convinced that I would definitely produce something that could impress everyone. So relaxed was I that I didn't give it a second thought for weeks.
