New Energy Technology: An Environmental-friendly Choice New energy technologies are important for a greener world. New energy is good for our planet. It is clean and helps us use less common energy. There are two main kinds of new energy we will talk about: solar and wind.
◆Solar Energy: Solar energy is widely-known. Solar panels (太阳能板), common on tops of buildings, turn sunlight into electricity. In sunny places, they can meet a home’s needs and help save costs. Huge solar factories in deserts can power cities.
◆Wind Energy: Wind energy is another key form. Wind turbines (风机), like big fans on towers, produce electricity when the wind blows. Wind farms, in open areas or near the sea (especially in areas with strong winds), are full of these turbines. Wind energy is clean, without harmful gases, helping fight air pollution and climate change.
◆Energy Storage: But sometimes the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow, so batteries (电池) are needed for new energy storage. Batteries can store electricity for later use. New battery tech aims for better use and lower costs.

“It was great fun to guess the price of products,” 12-year-old Audrey Brown said. The idea of the game came from The Price Is Right, a TV show. “Whenever a student guessed right, all their friends would cheer,” Audrey said.
The game was an interesting way to learn about a serious subject: hygiene poverty (卫生贫困). That’s when people can’t afford the products they need for health and cleanliness. Audrey and her classmates wanted to help people in this situation. They started a hygiene product drive at school. Their goal was to collect and donate 10 bags of products to the Medina Personal Care Pantry. In the end, they donated 17 bags. Each bag had about $45 worth of personal care and cleaning products. “I’m really proud of how much we’ve learned as a class,” Audrey said.
On the first Saturday of each month, the Personal Care Pantry hands out the things to people who need them. It gives out about 180 bags each month. The bags donated by Audrey’s class were gone in 15 minutes. “The activity is meaningful. One of my friends—her family was able to get a month’s worth of products,” Audrey said.

“You are about to walk into a large seed bank in the world,” said Sharon Balding, the Seed Collections Manager at the Millennium Seed Bank (MSB) in the UK. “Inside, we have over 2.8 billion seeds from more than 100 countries,” she added.
The MSB is hidden underground. It has a largest collection of seeds from wild plants. The MSB is protected around the clock. Inside, rows of glass bottles are used to store the seeds. Instead of plant names, numbers are written on the bottles. “This is for safety reasons,” Sharon explained. “If someone steals the seeds, they won’t know what the seeds are!” So, is this collection worth a lot of money “It’s priceless,” Sharon said. “Without these seeds, we might lose important resources (资源) like food and medicine.”
Some of these seeds have already been used. For example, in early 2020, wildfires in Australia burned down the natural home of a special plant. The MSB sent plenty of seeds to help this plant grow back in the wild.
Sadly, according to a scientific report, two out of five plant species (特种) are at risk of dying out. As the Earth gets warmer, it’s getting harder for some plants to live. “We are studying and collecting seeds from trees in other parts of the world,” said Owen Blake, a scientist. “Some of these species might grow well with the help of science and technology in the future,” he explained.
43. What can we know about the MSB
A. Its manager is Owen Blake. B. It’s the largest bank in the world.
C. It collects and stores seeds. D. It has banks in over 100 countries.
44. Why do the bottles have numbers instead of plant names
A. To better protect the seeds.
B. To tell which row the seeds are in.
C. To show the prices of the seeds
D. To record how long the seeds have been kept.

阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题(请注意每小题后面的词数要求)。
The eagle has amazing natural talents. It can fly high in the sky without any efforts. Its strong wings and sharp (尖锐的) eyes help it rule the sky and easily reach the top of the pyramid (金字塔).
The snail (蜗牛), though, doesn’t have such great abilities. Yet it can also reach great heights. Realizing its limitations (限制), the snail focuses on small but continuing progress. Each day, it moves slowly but never stops. It doesn’t give up when it meets difficulties.
This gives us an important life lesson. If we lack (缺乏) the eagle’s natural gifts to achieve goals quickly, we can learn the snail’s spirit. We should never give up and take small steps one by one. Life is like a piggy bank (存钱罐). Every small effort, whether studying a bit longer, learning a new skill, or working hard, accumulates (累加) over time. These efforts will be paid back in the end. By keeping it every day, we can get closer to our own “pyramid tops”.

Labor Clubs Make Our Life Colorful
Last week, our school made a survey of the students in different labor clubs.
Labor-related clubs account for 90% of the school clubs. Among them, 45% of the students choose to join the Paper Cutting Club, 25% choose the Cooking Club, and 20% choose the Planting Club. I joined the school’s Planting Club because I think planting is very interesting. Watching flowers grow and bloom not only gives me a great sense of achievement but also helps cultivate my sense of responsibility and exercise my physical fitness. Moreover, I can learn relevant knowledge about plants in this club.
In my opinion, students should participate in the clubs they like. When considering their own preferences, they should also think about what kind of exercise and improvement the clubs can bring. Finally, they should make a comprehensive choice according to their own needs. I look forward to everyone finding their favorite club.
