The animal world is full of teamwork. No matter if it’s in the deep sea, on the wide deserts, or in the thick forests, animals have come up with really cool ways to work together.
In a wolf group, each wolf has a job. The leader wolf decides what to do when it’s time to hunt. Some wolves go out to look for prey (猎物), other wolves drive the prey towards the wolves that are waiting. They take turns running to wear the prey out. They use wolf calls, body language, and smells to talk to each other. Wolves also help each other take care of the baby wolves, protect their home, and share food.
Ants live in well-organized colonies (群体). What an ant does depends on its age, size, and type. Some ants go out to find food. Others take care of the baby ants, build or fix the nest to keep the colony safe. They use pheromones (信息素) to talk. When an ant finds food, it leaves the pheromone. Then other ants follow it to get the food. Their teamwork is so good that they can build their own organized communities (群落).
Dolphins (海豚) also live in groups. They work together in many ways. When swimming for a long time, they take turns leading the way at the front, making it easier for the other dolphins to follow. When they hunt, they use echolocation (回声波) to find fish and tell the other dolphins. When a dolphin mom gives birth, the other dolphins in the group swim in a circle around her and the newborn baby dolphin to keep them safe.

Our brain has two parts that can work alone. For example, the left part controls the right side of our body, like seeing and moving. And the right part controls the left. Some people think these two parts have their own jobs. They say creative (有创造性的) people are “right-brained”, and logical (理性的) people are “left-brained”.
To know where this idea came from, let’s go back over 70 years. In the 1950s, Roger Sperry, a brain scientist at a California school, worked with people whose corpus callosum (the part joining the two brain parts) was cut. Sperry showed them words and pictures and they could only remember words with their right eye and draw with the other.
To further prove (证明) that each brain part has its skills, in 2013, researchers used MRI to scan (扫描) the brains of over 1,000 kids and young adults. They tested if some brain functions were on just one side. The result showed that some, like language, were tied more strongly to one side, but most brain networks worked on both.
Diana Sarko, who studies the brain at Southern Illinois University, also agrees. “When you make music or art, both brain parts work,” she says. And Michelle Ellefson, another brain scientist says, “Now we think that although one area largely helps with a skill, it doesn’t work alone.”
Any time you paint or solve math problems, many brain areas team up. So, next time someone says you’re “left-brained” or “right-brained”, remember your whole brain helps you do great things!

Meg was interested. “Why ”
Her grandmother smiled, “We believe that through continuous kind actions, we can create a life of purpose. Every day, we find a moment of light by offering help to others, even when the world around us is dark.”
With respect, Meg decided to keep the tradition. Every night, she recorded her act for the day. As years went by, Meg’s kind acts grew, from helping a stranger on the road to organizing community clean-ups.
One day, as she sat in a restaurant, a young woman came to her.
“Excuse me, are you Meg ” she asked. Meg nodded, feeling confused (困惑的).
The woman went on, “Years ago, you taught me for free when my family couldn’t afford lessons. Because of you, I went to college. Today I run an organization providing help for poor students.” Meg realized her actions were creating ripples in ways she had never thought of.

When Meg was old, she often sat with her grandchildren, turning the filled pages. One day, her grandchild, Sophie, looked up from the calendar. “I want to continue this, Grandma.” Meg handed the calendar over. She knew the tradition would live on.

People think differently, but how does this happen To find out the answer, Dr. Guilford, a famous psychologist, carried out a study on creativity (创造力) in the 1970s, known at The Nine-Dot Puzzle (九点谜题).
In the research, Guilford asked participators (参与者) to connect all nine dots with at most four straight lines, without lifting pencils from the paper. As a result, only 20% managed to solve the puzzle. The following survey showed that all failed participators had looked for ways in the virtual (虚拟的) box, which is formed with virtual lines. But the winners could break out of the virtual box and continued their lines in the open space around the dots. The results of Guilford’s research led him to an idea: creativity needs you to go outside the box.
The idea was widely spread soon. Overnight, it seemed that there were creativity experts everywhere, teaching people how to think outside the box. The idea was so popular that no one thought of checking the facts until two different research teams, did another study.
To check if Guilford’s idea is correct, the participators were divided (分) into two groups. The first group was given the same instructions as those in Guilford’s study. The second group was told they could draw outside the virtual box. Most people think that at least 60% of the second group could solve the puzzle easily. Guess what Less than 25% solved the puzzle. It was nearly the same as the result of Guilford’s study. The result made everyone surprised, but it was the truth.
Let’s look more closely at the surprising result. Solving this problem needs people to think outside the box. However, direct and clear instructions —“think outside the box” did not help participators solve the puzzle more easily. In some ways, the idea that thinking outside the box makes people more creative can be improper.
41. Which of the following can solve The Nine-Dot Puzzle
A. B. C. D.
42. Most people thought that in Guilford’s study, more participators would solve the puzzle if ________.
A.they could find out the imagined box more quickly
B.they were given some more time to complete the puzzle
C.they were told to draw the lines outside the imagined box
D.they could discuss the ways together with other participators
43. Which part of the article explains Burnham with Davis and Alba with Robert’s study and their findings
A.Paragraph 2. B.Paragraph 3. C.Paragraph 4. D.Paragraph 5.
44. Which is the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.
45. The passage probably tells us that ________.
A.the popular ideas among most people are true B.the “facts” accepted by many people may not be facts
C.being good at going outside the box means creativity D.practising solving puzzles does help to think differently
