The Forbidden City can always take its visitors’ breath away.
This year, the world’s largest wooden palace is more than 600 years old! Do you know who made it
In 1406, when the Ming Yongle Emperor decided to move the country’s capital from Nanjing to Beijing, he started to build a palace in Beijing. It took about a million workers 14 years to finish it.
Materials like Nanmu and stones were sent from all over China to Beijing. Nanmu, the most valuable Chinese wood, was used to make huge wooden pillars (柱子). People could only find it deep in forests over 1,800 km away from Beijing. Workers had to float the wood on rivers all the way north to Beijing. Stones were also transported to the palace. The heaviest stone in the Forbidden City is about 250 tons. It was so heavy that people could only move it during winter. They poured water onto the road to create ice. Then thousands of workers pulled the stone on the ice to the palace.

Some parents think children should play a lot in their childhood. However, some parents think children should learn more useful things. They teach their children to do chores by themselves early. What are chores Chores are things we need to do every day like washing the dishes and sweeping the floor. Here are some benefits (益处) that helping out with chores will bring to children.
First, doing chores teaches children life skills (技能). Children will need to do many hard things by themselves one day, so they should learn more life skills as early as possible. Doing chores like cooking, feeding pets and cleaning the house can help them become more independent and teach them how to solve problems.
Second, doing chores helps children learn to respect (尊敬) others. If children are asked to clean up the house, they may know better about the mess they make. And they will respect others’ work more.
Third, doing chores helps children be better at making plans and organizing their time. There are a lot of things to do every day, and it’s hard to fit them all in. China is rapidly integrating drone (无人机) technology into its medical emergency systems.
North China’s Tianjin Municipality launched its first medical drone route (路线) in late May, marked by a successful simulated (模拟) emergency blood supply test flight. The flight connected a blood station at the Binhai New Area and the Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital’s Binhai branch. “The drone route creates an emergency blood lifeline for patients in critical conditions,” said Shen Jun, vice president of the hospital. Carrying a 5 kg payload (载重), the drone is equipped with a temperature-controlled medical box that allows for temperature, location and flight status monitoring (监控) in real time. Its efficient point-to-point delivery avoids delays caused by road traffic, saving precious time for emergency treatment.
Bolstered (激励) by technology and policy support, Chinese provinces like Zhejiang, Guangdong and Fujian are actively exploring the application of drones in their medical systems, transporting test samples, blood, emergency supplies and medicine, which are crucial for saving critical treatment times. In the city of Zigong, in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, drones have become a routine part of medical services. According to the municipal health commission, the city has opened 25 low-altitude routes linking 28 sites for medical transport. As of May 27, drones had completed 5, 270 flights for medical use.
The drones are automated, cloud-controlled models built for urban operations. Cruising at 72km per hour with an 18-km range, they operate 70 percent to 80 percent faster than ground transport. “Usually, it takes at least 30 to 40 minutes from the hospital branch of Bancang to the headquarters by ground transportation. Drones cut this to 11 minutes,” said Huang Yuting, transport manager at Zigong First People’s Hospital, referring to a case in which a drone delivered a drug for emergency use last August.
Hao Jihui, president of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital, said the low-altitude transport system breaks geographical barriers, enhances emergency response, and significantly improves medical resource efficiency by cutting costs and transportation times. “We’ll expand drone applications to enhance cross-regional medical resource allocation (配置) and meet multi-level health service demands,” Hao added.
46.What is the main purpose of using drones in China’s medical emergency systems
A.To reduce the cost of medial supplies.
B.To avoid traffic delays and save time for emergencies.
C.To replace all ground transportation in hospitals.
D.To train doctors in new technology.
47.How does the drone in Tianjin ensure the safety of blood supplies
A.By flying at very high altitudes.
B.By using a temperature-controlled box with real-time monitoring.
C.By carrying extra medical staff.
D.By making multiple stops during delivery.
48.According to the article, which Chinese cities are mentioned as using medical drones
A.Beijing and Shanghai. B.Tianjin, Zhejiang, and Sichuan. C.Guangzhou and Shenzhen. D.Only small towns in rural areas.
49.How much faster are drones compared to ground transport in Zigong
A.10%-20% faster. B.30%-40% faster. C.70%-80% faster. D.The same speed as the ground transportations.
50.What is the main advantage (优势) of using medical drones according to Hao Jihui
A.They can carry more medical staff. B.They make flying more popular.
C.They break geographical barriers and improve efficiency. D.They are cheaper than ground transportations.

Sometimes we get some “surprises” on our phone. 51 In fact, this magic, mind-reading recommendation (推荐) depends on data (数据).
Data is no longer only about numbers, but information about almost every part of life: where we go, what we do and what we like and dislike. 52
Big Data makes life easier. The smart traffic system (交通系统) in Los Angeles is a good example. It collects real-time traffic data and controls 4,500 traffic lights in the system. 53
A supermarket named Tesco will recommend products (产品) to their customers (顾客) on its website after knowing their shopping habits. Its app on a mobile phone even guides customers around supermarkets to find what they want. 54
However, Big Data causes serious problems about how we protect our privacy (隐私). We should learn to protect our privacy in the Big Data Age.
55 What we should do is to make the best use of it.
A.Together is called Big Data.
B.It can also give advice on what they may like to buy.
C.Though there are bad sides, Big Data is helpful in people’s lives in some ways.
D.If an accident happens, the system will change the lights near there to control the traffic.

For a long time, he had been working on the “laws of motion”. One lucky day, as he was sitting in his study at his mother’s country home, he looked out over the yard. The apple trees were 63 (fill) with ripe, red apples.
As he sat there thinking, he 64 (notice) an apple falling from the tree. Apples fall from trees all the time. They even fall and hit people on the head. But Isaac Newton’s falling apple was no ordinary apple. And Newton was no ordinary man.
He saw 65 (much) than an apple falling from a tree. As he watched the apple hit the ground, he asked 66 (he) some simple questions: Why did that apple fall straight down Why did it not fall sideways Why did it not fall 67 , towards the sky, instead of down, towards the 68 (central) of the earth
With these simple questions, Newton discovered gravity. More correctly, he discovered how gravity works.
Scientists could now understand 69 the moon was held in orbit (轨道) around the earth. Gravity explained why people did not fall off the face of the earth.
Imagine if Newton had watched that apple falling, and thought 70 (something) more than, “Oh yes, just another apple falling from a tree!”

76. Last summer, I went to Xi’an, a city full of history and charm. It left a deep impression on me. Xi’an is famous for the Terracotta Army. These life-sized clay soldiers and horses, buried with Emperor Qin Shi Huang, are a wonder of the world. They show the great skills of ancient Chinese craftsmen. Besides, the ancient City Wall of Xi’an is also a must-see. Walking on the wall, you can feel the long history of the city.
The people in Xi’an are very friendly and warm-hearted. When I got lost, they patiently showed me the way. And the food there is amazing! Roujiamo, which is like a Chinese hamburger, and Yangrou Paomo are my favorites. The rich flavors make my mouth water even now.
Xi’an is truly a city worth visiting. It combines history, culture, friendly people, and delicious food, offering an unforgettable travel experience.
