We Can't Live Without Bees
Imagine you go to the supermarket in your area, but there are almost no fruits, vegetables, honey, milk, eggs, or chocolate. How would you feel Disappointed Angry Sad At this moment you realize people, plants, and animals are all connected. We need each other to live, and bees are one of the best examples of this connection.
Bees are very hard-working animals, and their greatest work is pollination. On one trip, they often visit 50 to 100 flowers. As they fly from one flower to another, they take pollen with them. This action helps plants grow. In fact, without their work, about 80 per cent of the plants in the world cannot grow. For this reason, many scientists believe that bees are the most important animals on this planet.
While-reading
Bees are also one of the most interesting animals in the world. For example, they work hard together to make their homes. In order to store honey, they create honeycombs. Another interesting thing about bees is how they communicate. When a bee finds new food, it uses a dance to tell the others where and how far away the food is.
Bees are an important part of the ecosystem of our planet. However, the number of bees is dropping, and scientists are worried. They need our help, and there is a lot we can do. Think about what you can do to protect one of the most amazing animals on earth.

Imagine you are the writer.
Write one more paragraph about bees and add it to the text.
Bees are like tiny superheroes for our planet! Without their busy work of flying from flower to flower, we wouldn’t have many of the foods we love, like apples, strawberries, or even the cocoa beans for chocolate. They work together in big families called colonies, building perfect honeycombs and “dancing” to tell each other where to find food. But now, their numbers are falling because of pesticides and lost habitats. Every small thing we do—like planting flowers or saving a tired bee with a drop of sugar water—helps keep these amazing creatures alive. Remember, when we protect bees, we’re protecting the web of life that connects us all!

How do you understand the connection between people, plants, and animals Think of some examples and then share them with a partner.
A: We all know people and nature are connected. But can you
give me an example of how they are connected
B: Sure. I visited a small town in Guangdong once. There are many
large trees in the town. They are home to many birds.
A lot of tourists come to see the trees and the birds…
Thinking
What can we do to protect bees
Plant more flowers and avoid using harmful pesticides.
Leave some wild areas in gardens for bees to nest.
Buy honey from local beekeepers who care for bees.
Put out a shallow dish of water with pebbles for bees to drink.
Tell others why bees are important and help protect them.
