W: Thanks for helping me with the cleaning, Andrew. I feel bad. You’re a guest. You shouldn’t be
doing housework!
M: It’s no problem!
W: I just want the place to look nice for the family Easter party. It’s the first time I’ve ever hosted
it. My mom usually does it, but as Easter is on the same day as her birthday this year, I said I’d
step in. Now, I’m nervous!
M: Calm down. I’d like to help. My family do a very similar thing back home in China before the
Spring Festival. So I feel quite at home!
W: Oh, cool!
M: We tidy and clean the house inside and out. It clears the bad luck in the house.
W: Nice tradition.
M: But we’re completely not allowed to do any cleaning on the first day of the New Year. We
cook but we don’t wash dishes. That’s definitely my favorite part! Nobody wants to wash
away the good luck!

W: Hi everyone. I’m going to tell you about my wonderful trip to Venice with my family.
We arrived at the airport on Saturday morning at 10:00 am. It took us over an hour to get to
our hotel by boat. We set off at 10:15 and arrived there at 11:30. To save money, we bought a
museum card which we could use to go into the museums and art galleries. Apart from its
fantastic buildings and squares, Venice is most famous for its bridges. The thing I enjoyed
most was walking over the beautiful bridges and watching the boats beneath us. Now I’d like
to mention the food in Venice. As you would expect, there were plenty of pizza and pasta
restaurants. But the nicest thing to eat in Venice was fish. On the last day, we sat and drank
fruit juice on the Grand Canal. I sent many postcards to my friends and bought lots of Italian
sweets. My parents bought some toy boats for my cousins. It was a perfect city holiday.
