In 1995, Uyinga left her home on the grassland to study at the Inner Mongolia University of Finance and Economics in the regional capital, Hohhot. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in land resource management, she immediately decided to return home as she believed the vast grassland has more opportunities to offer than big cities.
“I was born on the grassland, and I have a free spirit. And the infrastructure such as roads and telecommunication on the grassland has been significantly improved, so it can be just as convenient to start businesses at my home,” Uyinga said.
Following the recommendation of a career adviser on e-commerce, she started to post videos about the life of herdsmen(牧民)on social media in January 2018. “There wasn’t any influencer posting about the life of herdsmen in Inner Mongolia back then. And my first goal was to clear up people’s misunderstandings about herdsmen,” she said. Like many people from the region, Uyinga is often asked if locals ride horses to school and work. “Many people aren’t familiar with life and culture on the grassland. In fact, the herdsmen’s life on the grassland has also been improved and modernized. At the same time, we have kept our traditions alive,” she said.
Besides enjoying the stunning sunrises and sunsets in the short videos posted by Uyinga, people are particularly interested in how her family prepares traditional Mongolian food, such as dairy products, milk tea and boiled meat. One of Uyinga’s videos that went viral features her family storing meat for a harsh winter ahead. It has received more than 9 million views on social media platforms. “I’ve never imagined people can be so interested in our normal routines. It has made me more determined to promote our rich culture and heritage,” Uyinga said.
She now has more than 1.18 million followers on the short video platform Douyin, but she said she doesn’t like to be called an influencer. “I am simply a recorder of the grassland and the lifestyle of the herdsmen,” she said.
24.What made Uyinga come back to her hometown after graduation
A.Her major in the university. B.Her belief in the grassland.
C.Attachment to her hometown. D.Pressure in the big city.
25.What were Uyinga’s first videos aimed at
A.Showing off her lifestyle.
B.Attracting tourists to Inner Mongolia.
C.Promoting traditional Mongolian food.
D.Clarifying misconceptions of the herdsman’s life.
26.What is known about the herdsmen in Inner Mongolia
A.They homemake meat products for winter.
B.They face many challenges in the grassland.
C.They have totally abandoned their traditions.
D.They enjoy making videos about their life.
27.What is a best title for the passage
A.Mongolia, home to herdsmen. B.Herdsman, a new lifestyle.
C.Grassland, home of Uyinga. D.Uyinga, a grassland recorder.
Bees do it. Fishes do it. People do it, though often less than they would like to. Owls do it in the daytime. Even Caenorhabditis elegans, a primitive roundworm made up of a few thousand cells, does something that looks an awful lot like it. Sleep is an ancient, universal experience.
But partly because it is so commonplace, for a long time sleep was a subject that scientists had not woken up to. It is only in the past half-century or so that it has attracted the attention of researchers. A new book from Kenneth Miller, a science journalist, sets out to record the field’s short but fascinating history.
The book is organized around the life and hard work of four scientists. The early pages of the book, before there is much in the way of established science to describe, are the weakest. A good deal of time is spent on biographical details and pen portraits of the world through which they moved. But the story soon picks up. It wanders from the discovery of rapid-eye-movement(REM)sleep and circadian rhythms—the biological clocks that govern humanity’s days—to the effects of sleep deprivation. It also explores the purpose, if any, of dreams.
Underlying it all is a sense of psychology’s slow maturing as a science. New technologies such as electroencephalographs, which monitor electrical activity in the brain, have offered practitioners the ability to study brains directly, rather than trying to infer what they are doing from the behaviour of their owners.
Discoveries often lead to new questions in turn. That is why neat, tidy endings are hard to achieve in science books; this one is no different. Despite all the progress of the past 50 years, scientists are still unsure what sleep is for. The fact it is so widespread suggests it is vital. But why evolution would see fit to produce animals that must spend large amounts of their time insensate and unable to respond to threats is still a mystery researchers are trying to solve. For anyone curious about asking the right questions, however, Mr Miller’s book is a good place to start.

A.The exploration of dreams. B.The contents of the book.
C.The progress of sleep science. D.The biography of the writer.
30.How does the author find the ending of the book
A.Mysterious. B.Encouraging. C.Unsatisfying. D.Influential.
31.What does the underlined word “insensate” in the last paragraph mean
A.Negative. B.Active. C.Sleepless. D.Feelingless.
A seemingly harmless yes to a request is just one more thing added to the pile already weighing on you and making it impossible to pay attention to what you really want or need. The strategic use of no can truly change your quality of life.
Saying no too little—and thus yes too much—has always been a problem for me, due to two issues. The first is not valuing the future properly compared with the present. Economists and psychologists have long studied the phenomenon of discounting(“贴现”现象), according to which we value something right now more highly than we value the idea of having the same item in, say, a year’s time.
A bit of such discounting won’t break my decision making and mess up my life, but many people suffer from a common bias(偏见)called “hyperbolic discounting(双曲线贴现),” which, as the name suggests, is the same phenomenon but to an extreme degree. This explains addictive behaviors, in which the likelihood of future damage—from drug use, for example—is ignored in favor of the momentary present pleasure. Hyperbolic discounting can also help explain my habitually saying yes to some upcoming task: Future inconvenience is ignored in favor of the joy available right now of saying you will take it on.
The second problem is the fear of future regret. Researchers have shown that this concern can lead to risk avoidance. The fear of future regret can lead you to say yes to too many things if you’re worried about missing an opportunity.
Perhaps neither hyperbolic discounting nor the fear of regret bothers you, but you still say yes too much. In that case, the problem may originate in a sense of responsibility or guilt, not necessarily a character weakness. It may simply be the cost of being a kind person.
But saying yes can be costly indeed if people around you know they can ask you for nearly anything and you’ll agree. Whether you are a faulty-discounter, a regret-fearer, or a guilt-feeler, you need tools to help manage your yes bias.
32.Which of the following belongs to a phenomenon of discounting
A.A small action can set off a chain of unexpected events.
B.More than one watch doesn’t tell more accurate time.
C.Instant rewards are overvalued instead of long-term goals.
D.The pain of regret is greater than the joy of all the gains.
33.Why is “hyperbolic discounting” discussed
A.To explain an addictive behavior.
B.To clarify a negative effect of saying no.
C.To show an example of being regretful.
D.To tell an extreme degree of discounting.
34.What causes discounting in paragraph 5
A.A proper focus on the future. B.The fear of future regret.
C.A desire to be a kind person. D.The momentary pleasure.
35.What will be discussed next to the last paragraph
A.The causes of saying yes. B.The techniques of saying no.
C.The strategies of feeling no regret. D.The benefits of managing yes bias.
Is there anyone who couldn’t spend a little less time on their phone A digital detox(戒断)may be just what you need. 36 When people hear the word detox, they may think it’s a strict all-or-nothing thing, but it doesn’t have to be that extreme. Here are some ideas to get you started.
It’s one thing to say you’re going to get rid of your phone on your next vacation, but it’s quite another thing to actually do it. 37 Once you get used to small blocks of time without it, it will be easier and easier to forget how much you relied on it.
If you’re in a situation where you can’t drop your phone, block out time to use technology during the moments you absolutely have to use it. For example, spend a morning in bed on a Saturday to catch up on social media and then rely less on your phone the rest of the day. 38
Not to sound too much like a lecturing mom, but mealtimes should be quality time with your dining companions in real life. Quick-response codes for menus at restaurants can be a little annoying too, since you’ re dining out with friends to spend time with them, not get absorbed in your phone. 39 If you have to use your phone to order dinner, put it back in your purse as soon as you can.
40 Where you sleep, for example, should be a restful place, not a place to get worked up over social media posts. Start your digital detox by taking the television out of the room, and definitely keep your phone elsewhere while you sleep.
A.You are not alone as a digital addict.
B.Keep your phone away from your bed.
C.Ask for a paper menu whenever possible.
D.Specify some areas of your home as tech-free.
E.Try setting aside your phone for an afternoon instead.
F.It is a planned and mindful break from digital technology.
G.You just might find that you now have time for a new hobby.

Sophia and Jessica had been closest friends since elementary school. They walked to school arm in arm, whispered secrets at midnight during countless sleepovers, and faced every challenge of high school together. Sophia, with her quiet creativity, poured her soul into a blue leather-bound notebook filled with poems, stories, and letters to her late mother. Jessica, bright and mischievous, was the one who could always make her laugh, even on the hardest days.
Then, one morning, the notebook vanished(消失)without a trace.
Sophia distinctly remembered placing it carefully between textbooks in her locker the previous afternoon. But when she opened the metal door the next day, the space where it should have been sat empty. A cold dread washed over her-that notebook contained her most private thoughts, words too personal to share with anyone else.
Jessica, ever the optimist, tried to reassure her. “Maybe you’re careless enough to leave it behind in the library reading room. After all, you always stay there. Don’t worry. It’ll turn up,” she said with a playful grin, nudging Sophia’s shoulder. “Maybe I stole it. Wouldn’t that be funny ”
Sophia managed a weak smile, but the casual remark planted an uneasy seed in her mind.
Days passed, and the notebook didn’t reappear. Sophia retraced her steps, checked lost-and-found bins, even asked teachers if anyone had turned it in. Nothing. Meanwhile, All the while, Jessica’s usual jokes began sounding less comforting and more unsettling. That offhand comment about taking it kept echoing in Sophia’s thoughts. Why would she say that
She started noticing little things—the way Jessica sometimes lingered near her locker, the way her gaze flicked away when Sophia mentioned the notebook. A seed of doubt took root, spreading like ivy, wrapping around their friendship. Sophia stopped waiting for Jessica after class. She ate lunch alone, burying herself in books to avoid conversation.
Jessica couldn’t miss the growing distance. Her usual spark dimmed, her cheerful chatter replaced by hesitant silences. One afternoon in the library, she slid into the chair beside Sophia. “You don’t actually think I’d do that, do you ” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Sophia kept her eyes fixed on her book, the silence between them heavier than any words could be.
Mr. Thompson, the English teacher, walked in holding a familiar blue notebook.

It may simply be the cost of being a kind person. 可知,有时有人说“是”并不是性格缺陷,而仅仅只是“想做个好人”的代价,故选C。
35. B 推理题 根据最后一段第二句Whether you are a faulty-discounter...

67.Mr. Thompson, the English teacher, walked in holding a familiar blue notebook. His eyes sparkled with excitement behind his round glasses as he held it up and announced, “This was found in the library reading room.” Sophia’s heart skipped a beat—it was her journal, filled with months of heartfelt writing. She reached out and took the precious notebook, running her fingers over the slightly worn cover before flipping through the pages of perfectly preserved poems and stories. Each entry transported her back to the moment she had written it. When her eyes met Jessica’s, she quickly looked down, overcome with guilt.
The bell rang, and students streamed out of the classroom. Sophia spotted Jessica already halfway down the hallway, walking faster than usual. Without hesitation, she rushed forward and wrapped her arms around her friend. Jessica stiffened for a moment before relaxing into the embrace. “I’m sorry,” Sophia whispered into her shoulder. Jessica pulled back, her eyes glistening, and gave Sophia a light punch on the arm. “Just don’t be so impulsive next time,” she teased. Arm in arm, they stepped into the crisp autumn afternoon, their laughter mingling with the rustling leaves, their friendship restored.
