Glaciers are formed in areas of high snowfall in winter and cool temperatures in summer. They can come in different shapes and sizes. Some glaciers are small and they may only be a few meters wide. Some glaciers are large, and they are over hundreds of thousands of kilometers.
About 10% of the world’s land is covered by such different sizes of glaciers. They serve as natural reservoirs (水库) because about 75% of all the fresh water in the world is kept in glaciers. That’s why glaciers are quite important.
Now some glaciers are disappearing because of global (全球的) warming. As the Earth becomes warmer, glaciers melt quickly. Scientists believe that it will lead to serious results in the near future.
There will be more earthquakes. Large glaciers stop small earthquakes because the plates can’t move much under these huge objects. In Southeast Alaska, some glaciers are gone, and the land is lifted. So the plates can move more quickly, and this leads to more earthquakes there.
Volcanoes (火山) will become “hot” again. Volcanoes are waking up because of the disappearing glaciers. Even volcanoes that weren’t lively have broken out several times in recent years. Scientists said that the glaciers have something to do with it. The volcanoes will become “hot” again after the glaciers get thin.
People, animals and plants are in danger. Coral (珊瑚) grows in salt water. The more glaciers melt, the more fresh water there will be, and it is not good for coral. People, animals and plants need fresh water from glaciers to live. They will be in danger if too much fresh water goes into the sea.
Something must be done. Many people are now living a green life which is a way of living with less carbon dioxide (CO ). For example, they prefer to take public transportation and use both sides of the paper. These are helpful in slowing down global warming. With little effort and not much money, most of us can make a difference.

On May 19, 2025, Xiaomi had big news: its own—made 3nm XRING O1 chip (芯片) started large—scale production. This made Xiaomi the fourth company in the world— after Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek- to learn 3nm chip design. It’s China’s first success in 3nm chip design. It shows Chinese companies can make new things in the chip—making field.
What does “3nm” mean It talks about the size of tiny parts on a chip called transistors (晶体管). A nanometer (nm) is very, very small-one billionth of a meter. To understand, a human hair is 16,000 times thicker than a 3nm part. Making these chips needs putting billions of tiny transistors on a small silicon (硅) piece. Smaller transistors make chips work faster and use less power. But making them needs high—tech tools like EUV lithography machines, which China can’t make yet.
Xiaomi began working on chips in 2014. In 2017, its first chip, the 28nm Surge S1, had some problems. Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, said, “To be a top company, we must control key technologies.” Xiaomi wants not to depend too much on foreign companies like Qualcomm. So it could better manage its supply chain and create products that people need. Over ten years. Xiaomi spent 13.5 billion yuan and built a team of 2,500 engineers to achieve this goal.
This success helps China need fewer foreign chips and makes its supply chain safer. Experts say that although China still has challenges in chip-making, Xiaomi’s design success makes it a strong global competitor and encourages more research in China. As Lei Jun said, “Every step in technology brings us closer to a better future.” Xiaomi’s story shows that hard work and patience are the key to innovation (创新).
41.Why does Xiaomi want to make its own chips
A.To depend less on foreign companies. B.To sell chips to Apple and Qualcomm.
C.To make chips cheaper than others. D.To stop making phones.
42.What’s good about 3nm chips
A.They are thicker than human hair. B.They use more power
C.They work faster and save energy. D.They don’t need transistors
43.What does Xiaomi’s success show about Chinese companies
A.They can only follow foreign technologies. B.They can innovate in high-tech fields.
C.They don’t need to research new things. D.They only make cheap products.
44.Which of the following statements is right
A.Xiaomi is the third company in the world to master 3nm chip design.
B.Smaller transistors on chips make them work faster and use more power.
C.Xiaomi’s 3nm chip is China’s first success in 3nm chip design
D.Xiaomi spent 1.35 billion yuan on chip research over ten years.
45.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Xiaomi’s new chip is called XRING O1.
B.How to make tiny transistors on a chip
C.Lei Jun is the CEO of Xiaomi.
D.Xiaomi’s success in making a 3nm chip and its meaning.
With smartphones and computers everywhere, many students find it hard to balance screen time and daily life. 46 Here are three practical tips to stay in control.
Set clear rules. Create a personal “tech plan”. 47 For example, decide “no phones during homework time” or “social media only after 5 pm”. Use apps like “Screen Time Tracker” to control your usage. Studies show students who follow the rules sleep better and finish homework 30% faster.
Choose quality information. Not all screen time is bad. 48 Watch educational videos to prepare for exams, or use language apps to practice English. Follow science pages instead of endless funny videos. A survey found that 70% of top students use screens mainly for learning.
Stay connected offline. Screens shouldn’t take the place of real-world friendships. 49 Join a school club, play basketball with neighbors, or help cook family meals. Face-to-face activities improve social skills and reduce loneliness. Teachers find that students who often stop using devices (设备) can make friends more easily.
50 Start small—turn off notifications (通知) during study hours this week. Remember, technology is a tool, not a boss. By managing it well, you’ll have time for both high scores and happy moments!
根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项,使文章意思通顺、内容完整。

Vegetables like broccoli and carrots are rich in vitamins and minerals, and they should be included in 67 (we) daily meals.
Regular exercise is equally important. The plan 68 (suggest) that teenagers should do at least 60 minutes of exercise every day. Activities such as running, cycling, and playing basketball are great 69 (choose). Schools play 70 important role in this plan. They have added more nutrition (营养) classes 71 (teach) students about healthy eating. Some schools even organize weight—management clubs, where students can share their experiences and support each other in achieving their weight—management goals. Parents also need to cooperate. They should set a good example 72 having a healthy lifestyle at home. For instance, they can cook healthy meals together with their children.

A Speech on AI in Study
AI technology has been developing rapidly in recent years, and it has changed our lives in many ways. It also serves as a powerful tool for students. It can answer questions quickly and explain difficult problems step by step. AI is so smart that it can even make study plans for us.
However, it’s important for us to use AI wisely. First, we should regard it as a learning tool rather than a replacement for effort and hard work. Second, we should avoid spending too much time using AI. Finally, it’s necessary to protect our personal information while we are using AI.
All in all, AI is a wonderful tool that can help us learn better and faster, but we must use it carefully and properly.
