Language Points
1. She looks nice in white. 她穿白色看起来很好看。
look在此处作系动词,意为“看起来”,后接形容词作表语,构成系表结构。
This woman looks young.
这位女士看起来很年轻。
同类感官系动词还有:feel(感觉起来,摸起来), smell
(闻起来),taste(尝起来),sound(听起来)和look用法
相同,这类感官系动词后跟形容词作表语。
The flowers in the garden smell sweet. 花园里的花闻起来很香。
Your idea sounds interesting. 你的想法听起来很有意思。
2. She looks after the old in an old people’s home.
她在一家敬老院照顾老人。
look after 意为“照顾;照料;照看;处理”,相当于take care of 和care for,其后可跟名词或宾格代词。
I love looking after the children.
我喜欢照顾小孩。
Mom, I’m not a little kid any longer. I can take good care of myself.
妈妈,我不再是一个小孩了。我能照顾好我自己。
3. She likes playing with Kitty. 她喜欢和凯蒂一起玩。
play with+有生命的人或物,意为“和某人/某物一起玩”;
play with +无生命的物,意为“玩……”。

know 作实义动词,意为“知道;了解”,常见用法如下:
①know about 知道;了解,相当于learn about,后面接所获知的具体内容;
②I don’t know. 我不知道。常用来表示对别人提出的问题或询问表示不知道或不清楚,相当于“I have no idea.”。在日常交际英语中,前面通常加上 “Sorry./I’m sorry.”
