Xi’an is the capital city of Shaanxi Province. It lies in the north of China. The city’s early history is often connected with Liu Bang, who started the Han Dynasty and made Xi’an his capital. He gave it the name Chang’ an. During the Tang Dynasty, Xi’an achieved its great importance. Korea and Japan followed Xi’an’s example in building their ancient capitals.
Many things from ancient times can still be found in Xi’an today. The city wall—one of the few city walls still left in China—is a good example. Beijing Library presents a “forest of
knowledge” to residents
The Beijing Library in Beijing’s Tongzhou District opened to the public on December 27,2023. It offers the public a modern and inviting space to enjoy the joy of reading.





Just next to the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in Tongzhou, the Beijing Library has been up and running along with the Beijing Performing Arts Center and the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing. They just meet the growing cultural and spiritual needs of the public.
The Beijing Library covers an area of about 75,000 square meters. It has been the world’s largest and most intelligent(智能的) library. The library is called “the forest of knowledge” because of the shape of its roof.





There are about eight million books in the library. It provides people with a relaxing space for reading and learning about the culture of Beijing. Over seven million books are stored in the underground intelligent stacks(书库). A robot will take the book you want to the reading area within 15 minutes.
Ms. Cheng lives in Tongzhou District. According to her, reading in such a beautiful library is really interesting. She’s happy that there is an outdoor space for children in the library. She thinks it’s a perfect place for lifelong learning.





To welcome the readers, the library held some activities on the opening day, including a concert. The library will hold more than 1,000 activities in the future. Also, it’ll give newborn babies some gifts to encourage lifelong learning, including a reader’s card, a book and a reading list.

One day, a girl moved there. She was a kind girl and noticed that Cathy was homeless. Every day she put food around Cathy’s “house”, an old box. The food was delicious and plentiful. So Cathy didn’t have to go out and catch mice by herself anymore. Every day she did nothing and just waited for her delicious food. As time went on, she got fatter and fatter. She couldn’t run very fast.
But one day the kind girl suddenly moved away. Cathy had no more food to eat. At the same time, she was too fat to catch mice. The neighbors complained(抱怨) that there were some mice in the neighborhood. Cathy’s miserable(悲惨的) life began.
