Some people like watching horror movies(恐怖电影), even though the films scare them so much that they end up screaming. Why do some people love scary things Some scientists at a university in the US found that fear can sometimes be good for us. It can raise our mood and help us become more confident.
In their study, 262 volunteers went into a haunted house. They stayed there for 35 minutes and came across many scary things. Both before and after the experience, they reported how they were feeling.
The results showed that most volunteers felt happier and less worried after the experience. This has to do with dopamine, something that the brain produces. It makes people feel excited, and this effect can last even after the danger has passed.
(A) , being scared in a safe place could be a good way to increase our confidence, explained Margee Kerr, one of the study’s writers. It made the volunteers feel confident that they could handle a scary situation in real life. It helped them deal with the fears we all have.
More than that, fear helps create strong social bonds(社会纽带). In scary situations, people are more likely to feel unsure about the future.
