I'll always remember the first time I tried ballet. My mother was a dancer and I wanted nothing more than to be like her, but after making mistakes during my first class, I felt like I wanted to give up right away. However, I told my mom I couldn't wait to dance again because it was only my first day.
Weeks passed and my dancing didn't get any better. Then my dance teacher announced that we were going to perform in a show. I was scared of falling on my face in front of hundreds of people and disappointing my mom.
Even though I practiced hard for the show, I never quite got the hang of it. Finally, I went to my mom to tell her how I felt. She simply laughed and told me she would teach me all she knew about ballet.
My mom quickly discovered how bad at ballet I was, but she still taught me with the greatest patience, love and understanding. When I jumped and fell, she was there to catch me. When I lost my balance, she held me up. By the time the show arrived, I was as prepared as I could be.
The music began and my heart started to race. Breathing calmly, I began moving to the music without missing a step. When the music stopped, I ran off the stage and laughed in excitement.
My mom found me and gave me a huge hug, telling me how proud she was. I looked my mom in the eye and told her that there was no way this could have happened without her. Through this, I realized one important fact: My mom will always be there to catch me if I fall.

The way you use your cellphones around your family can have an effect on your relationships. Cellphones can make you feel more connected, but they can also distract (使分心) you and your family from connecting with each other in person. While some people need to check their phones for work or emergency purposes, it's important to make meaningful connections through face-to-face communication.
Some people have trouble putting away their cellphones. They might feel they can't control how often they pick up their phones or how long they use them. They might feel the need to often check phones without a real reason or feel upset if they don't have an opportunity to use their phones. Using cellphones for work purposes during family time can increase worries and unhappiness among family members. While using their cellphones, parents talk to their kids less, reply more slowly, and overreact to being interrupted. And ignoring their partner while on the phone is linked to lower relationship satisfaction among couples.
Once you've given some thought to your own cellphone use, think about the rules you want your family to follow when you're together. To get your family on the same page, call a family meeting. Review each person's current cellphone use and areas where you think some changes might help. It's not just about simply cutting cellphone use down. Instead, consider what you're using your phone for and what activities you want to carry out.
For example, are you or your children using phones to stay connected, learn something new, do school work, or do something else If you have kids, ask their opinions on your own phone use. You might be surprised by what they have to share. Use good communication skills by practicing active listening and showing curiosity about what each family member has to say.
Less phone use also usually means less screen time, which enables kids to spend more time outdoors and be more physically active. When teens spend more time actively with their parents, they tend to set higher educational goals.

How to Be a Good Listener to Your Family
Communication is important for strong family relationships. However, if you don't truly listen to others, it can be difficult to communicate. 9
Listen actively. When listening to a family member, do not let your mind wander to other things. It's important to make your family member feel heard and valued.Put your phone away and give them your full attention.Never think about other things when someone is talking. 10
Repeat what has been said.Briefly summarizing what the speaker has said can go a long way towards effective communication.Everyone wants to feel valued and heard, so repeating a family member's point can show you are listening. 11 It can really allow you and your family to communicate better as well.
Do not interrupt. 12 Always allow a few seconds of silence after someone finishes talking before offering your response. This allows you to make sure the speaker has finished talking.Do not talk over someone either. No matter how curious you feel about a subject, do not start talking until the other person has finished.
13 Never rush the person into talking.Do not break in before the speaker is finished just to hurry the speaker along.Never say things like “Can you get to the point?” This will make it seem like you are not interested in the conversation.
A.Avoid hurrying the speaker.
B.Instead, focus on what's being said.
C.People tend to pause when they speak.
D.Interrupting can put breaks on effective conversation.
E.It can help you make sure you have understood the speaker.
F.When someone finishes talking, ask questions if necessary.
G.Working on your listening skills can help you communicate better and form stronger bonds.
B项中的“what's being said”照应前文中的“someone is talking”。
11.选E 本段紧扣“重复别人说过的话”进行论证,空处与前一句构成递进关系,故E项承接上文,符合语境。E项中的“It”指代前一句中的“repeating a family member's point”。
