1.Why do over 4,000 people wait for the small pieces of land

2.Why does gardening do good to cities

3.Do you like gardening Why?(Answers may vary.)

1.Each spring, children plant sunflowers and wait to see which one is the tallest.
2.Expert gardeners know just the right corner for roses, and others spend hours trying to grow perfect vegetables to enter into competitions.
①Let's put the chalk into the water and ____________________________.
②I'd prefer to reserve judgement until ____________________.
③He would ______________ online until he chose ____________________.
1.These words come from the author of the book The Secret Garden, first published in 1911.
2.And while many Brits like nothing better than spending their Sunday cutting the grass, some are happy just to sit under the branches of the trees and enjoy the beauty of the world around them.
赏析:本句中使用了while引导让步状语从句,nothing better than属于“否定词+比较级”表示最高级含义的用法,to sit under the branches of the trees and enjoy ...
3.Those without outside space can rent small pieces of land on which to grow things.
赏析:本句中without outside space是介词短语作定语, on which ...
①(完成句子)______________________________, I can see his shortcomings.
From my point of view, health is the most important thing in our daily life.
→From my point of view,____________________________________ in our daily life.
We need some solid facts on which we could base our decision.
→We need some solid facts ________________ base our decision.(升级为省略句)
Today, millions of Brits like to say that they have “green fingers”, with around half the population spending their free time gardening.
①I know that his father has green fingers.
________________________________________________________________________
②Gray hair should be respected.
________________________________________________________________________
③No cross, no crown.
________________________________________________________________________

As well as being good for the environment, gardening is also good for the soul. What other free time activity allows you to be at one with nature and create more beautiful living things And if you're in any doubt about this, take a moment to reflect on this line from The Secret Garden:“Where you tend a rose ...A thistle cannot grow.”
As well as being good at singing, he is also good at dancing. And if he takes part in the talent show, he will surely get the first prize.

Some breathtaking blue lakes may not be so blue in the future, thanks to climate change.
In the first global record of lake color, researchers find that roughly one-third of Earth's lakes are blue. But, should average summer air temperatures rise by a few degrees, some of those clear waters could turn a cloudy green or brown, the team reports in the Sept. 28 Geophysical Research Letters.
The changing colors could change how people use those waters and offer information about the balance of lake ecosystems. Lake color depends in part on what's in the water, but factors such as water depth and surrounding land use also pared with blue lakes, green or brown lakes have more algae (水藻) and organic matter, says one of the researchers.
The scientists then look at local climates during that time to see how they may be linked to lake color around the world. Lakes in places with average summer air temperatures that was below 19 ℃ were more likely to be blue than lakes with warmer summers, the researchers find. “If average summer temperatures increase another 3 ℃ — an amount that scientists think is possible by the end of the century — those 3,800 lakes could turn green or brown. That's because warmer water helps algae produce more flowers, which changes the qualities of the water, giving it a green-brown color,” Yang says.
“If some lakes do become less blue, people will probably lose some of the resources they have come to value,” says O'Reilly, a scientist at Southern Methodist University in Dallss. But the color changes wouldn't necessarily mean that the lakes are any less healthy. “Humans don't value lots of algae in a lake, but if you're a certain type of fish species, you might like this great, ” O'Reilly says.
Lake color can hint at the balance of a lake's ecosystem and it gives sickness a basic hint for assessing how climate change is affecting Earth's freshwater resources. Continued increasing of lakes could help scientists discover future changes.
4.Which factor connecting lake color isn't mentioned
A.Water depth.
B.People's use of water.
C.Surrounding land use.
D.Contents in the water.

根据第三段的“Lake color depends in part on what's in the water, but factors such as water depth and surrounding land use also matter.”
5.Why could lake color change if average summer temperatures rise by 3 ℃?
A.Because people will lose what they value.
B.Because the quantities of the water are changed.
C.Because algae grow more in warmer water.
D.Because 3 800 lakes could turn green or brown.

6.What is O'Reilly's attitude toward color change of the lakes
A.Doubtful. B.Positive.
C.Disapproving. D.Objective.

7.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Climate change could change lake color.
B.Lake color shows the heath conditions of lakes.
C.The change of lake color affects the lake ecosystem.
D.Color change in lakes does harm to the environment.

故选A项。

Rivers play an important role on the earth, and we can't imagine what the earth would be like without rivers. 8
With a length of 6,670 kilometers, the Nile is the longest river in the world. The Nile River has been the source of human civilization since ancient times. The Nile has two main branches — the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile starts from the Great Lakes region of East and Central Africa through Lake Victoria. 9 The Blue Nile carries with it a lot of fertile soil which turns out to be very important to farming in Egypt.
The Amazon River is the world's largest river with a width of about 40 kilometers during the rainy seasons but about 10 kilometers wide when it is not flooded. The Amazon River has such a big water volume that it accounts for (占……比例) more than 20% of all the world's fresh water — far more than any other river. 10 The main Amazon River flows mostly through Brazil and Peru but its tributaries (支流) can also be found in many other countries.
11 It has a depth of about 250 meters. Its length is 4,700 kilometers. The sources of the Congo River are in the highlands and mountains in the Eastern Africa Rift Valley. It's the second largest river in terms of water volume. 12 The Congo River basin (盆地) is the catchments (流域) area of the Congo River. It lies in both north and south of the Equator, making its flow very stable as there are always some tributaries experiencing a rainy season at any time.
A.Some of them are worth mentioning.
B.The Congo River is the world's deepest river.
C.Do you know which is the deepest river in the world
D.The Blue Nile originates from (发源于) Lake Tana in Ethiopia.
E.Without rivers, there would be no living life in and along them.
F.And it flows through the second largest rainforests in the world.
G.Streams that begin in the Andes Mountains are its sources.
9.选D 根据“The Nile has two main branches ...”
根据下文“The main Amazon River ...”

Rivers play an important role on the earth, and we can't imagine what the earth would be like without rivers.__8__
With a length of 6,670 kilometers, the Nile is the longest river in the world. The Nile River has been the source of human civilization since ancient times. The Nile has two main branches — the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile starts from the Great Lakes region of East and Central Africa through Lake Victoria.__9__ The Blue Nile carries with it a lot of fertile soil which turns out to be very important to farming in Egypt.
The Amazon River is the world's largest river with a width of about 40 kilometers during the rainy seasons but about 10 kilometers wide when it is not flooded. The Amazon River has such a big water volume that it accounts for (占……比例) more than 20% of all the world's fresh water — far more than any other river.__10__The main Amazon River flows mostly through Brazil and Peru but its tributaries (支流) can also be found in many other countries.
__11__ It has a depth of about 250 meters. Its length is 4,700 kilometers. The sources of the Congo River are in the highlands and mountains in the Eastern Africa Rift Valley. It's the second largest river in terms of water volume.__12__ The Congo River basin (盆地) is the catchments (流域) area of the Congo River.

由Jiaju Tibetan Village, Danba, Sichuan Province中的“These unique ... the forest.”
由Xijiang Miao Village中的“It's the largest Miao village ... group.”
根据第三段的“Lake color depends in part on what's in the water, but factors such as water depth and surrounding land use also matter.”
故选A项。
