(2025·九江高三模拟)When a scent moved gently through the air in the bedrooms of older adults for two hours every night for just six months, their memories skyrocketed.Participants in this study by UCI (University of California,Irvine) Centre reaped a 226% increase in cognitive (认知的) capacity compared to the control group. The researchers say the finding transforms the long-known tie between smell and memory into an easy, noninvasive (无创的) technique for strengthening memory and potentially preventing dementia. The team’s study appears in Frontiers in Neuroscience.
The study was conducted through the UCI Center for the Neurobiology of Learning & Memory. It involved men and women aged 60 to 85 without memory disorders. They were each given a diffuser (扩散器) and seven small bottles, each containing a single and different natural oil.People in the enriched group received full-strength bottles.Control group participants were given the oils in tiny amounts.Participants put a different bottle into their diffuser each evening prior to going to bed,and it remained active for two hours as they slept.
People in the enriched group showed a 226% increase in cognitive performance compared to the control group,as measured by a word list test commonly used to evaluate memory.CT imaging revealed better integrity brain pathway. The pathway affects decision-making ability and usually becomes less powerful with age.Participants also reported sleeping more soundly.
Scientists have long known that the loss of olfactory capacity,or ability to smell, can predict development of nearly 70 different kinds of diseases including Alzheimer’s and other dementias.Researchers have previously found that exposing people with moderate dementia to up to 40 different scents twice a day over a period of time boosted their memories and language skills, alleviated depression and improved their olfactory capacities.Later, the UCI team decided to try making this technique easier for older adults.
4.What does the underlined word “skyrocketed” in paragraph 1 probably mean
Dramatically declined. Slightly improved.
Severely weakened. Significantly increased.
5.What do we know about the experiment described in paragraph 2
All of the bottles contain the identical natural oil.
The given oil amount varies from group to group.
Each participant is distributed eight oil-filled bottles.
No requirement is for participants except age and sex.
6.What is the author’s main purpose in writing the passage
To report a study on scent exposure boosting memory.
To show a method to predict development of diseases.
To reveal the relationship between smell and memory.
To draw public attention to memory loss in older adults.
7.What will the follow-up paragraph most probably talk about
The approach to enhancing language skills.

(2025·连云港高三模拟)Kristin Schell is the founder of The Turquoise Table,a movement of ordinary people who want to create community right in their own front yards.Ten years ago,she and her family moved to a new home in Austin,Texas.
One day,Kristin tried to connect with her new neighbors by hosting a party. She bought a few picnic tables but the delivery driver set one table down in her front yard by mistake.“After the party,I painted the table turquoise—my favorite color—and put it in the front yard, just a few feet from the sidewalk,” she says.
That turquoise table became the place where Kristin and her kids hung out. They played games, did crafts and ate snacks.“We got intentional about where we spent our time,” Kristin says.“We became ‘front yard people’.”
Neighbors began to stop by to introduce themselves and sit down for a chat.Kristin invited people to join her at the table for coffee or iced tea. Then neighbors asked Kristin if their family could put a picnic table in their front yard too.A movement was born.“It was a simple way to slow down and connect with others,” she says. The turquoise table was inviting and had a shared feel.
People often hesitate to invite others into their homes. They think their house is too messy,it’s not big enough or they don’t have enough time.“Our perfectionism can cause us to miss out on the joy of connecting with others,” Kristin says. Her picnic table takes away the excuses—and the pressure.
She likes how it enables her to take a small step toward easing loneliness and building relationships in her community.“People’s greatest need is to know that they are loved and that they belong,”she says.
A decade after their Texas beginnings, thousands of Turquoise Tables exist in all 50 states and in 13 countries around the world. Not all of them are actually turquoise.“No matter what color it is,it’s a friendship table,” Kristin says.
1.Why did Kristin Schell start the movement

To entertain her friends and neighbors.
To engage with people in the neighbourhood.
To create harmonious communities worldwide.
2.Which of the following words best describe Kristin Schell according to the text

3.What can be inferred from the text

Kristin Schell bought the turquoise table to host a party.
People feel unwilling to join in the front yard chat at first.
4.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text

(2025·杭州高三质量检测)Is forgiveness against our human nature To answer our question,we need to ask a further question:What is the essence of our humanity For the sake of simplicity, people consider two distinctly different views of humanity. The first view involves dominance and power. In an early paper on the psychology of forgiveness,Droll (1984) made the interesting claim that humans’ essential nature is more aggressive than forgiving allows. Those who forgive are against their basic nature, much to their harm.In his opinion, forgivers are compromising their well-being as they offer mercy to others, who might then take advantage of them.
The second view involves the theme of cooperation, mutual respect, and even love as the basis of who we are as humans.Researchers find that to fully grow as human beings,we need both to receive love from and offer love to others.Without love, our connections with a wide range of individuals in our lives can fall apart.Even common sense strongly suggests that the will to power over others does not make for harmonious interactions. For example, how well has slavery (奴隶制) worked as a mode of social harmony
From this second viewpoint of who we are as humans, forgiveness plays a key role in the biological and psychological integrity of both individuals and communities because one of the outcomes of forgiveness, shown through scientific studies,is the decreasing of hatred and the restoration of harmony.Forgiveness can break the cycle of anger. At least to an extent the people from whom you are estranged (不和的) accept your love and forgiveness and are prepared to make the required adjustments.Forgiveness can heal relationships and reconnect people.
As an important note, when we take a classical Realism philosophical perspective, that of Aristotle,we see the distinction between potentiality and actuality. We are not necessarily born with the capacity to forgive, but instead with the potential to learn about it and to grow in our ability to forgive. The actuality of forgiving, its actual appropriation in conflict situations, develops with practice.
5.What is Droll’s idea about forgiveness
People should offer mercy to others.
Aggressive people should learn to forgive.
Forgiveness depends on the nature of humanity.
People who forgive can have their own welfare affected.
6.What does the example in paragraph 2 illustrate
To forgive is to love. To dominate is to harm.
To fight is to grow. To give is to receive.
7.What is the writer’s attitude toward forgiveness
Favorable. Reserved. Objective. Skeptical.
8.What is the message of the last paragraph
Forgiveness is in our nature. Forgiveness grows with time.
It takes practice to forgive. Actuality is based on potentiality.
(2025·南京师大附中高三模拟)On Monday,a lawsuit (诉讼) in the US got huge headlines around the world. It deals with a truly 21st century issue—whether human genes (基因) may be patented.
Myriad Genetics,a biotechnology company, discovered two genes—BRCA 1 and BRCA 2—that are highly related to breast cancer.Myriad patented its discoveries and a group of researchers challenged that the patent was illegal.
The US patent law protects the temporary economic rewards inventors get from their inventions. But it also says a product of nature or a law of nature can’t be patented. For example,Einstein couldn’t patent on his discovery of E=mc2.
And until relatively recently, many of the medical researchers voluntarily gave up patents on their inventions. When Dr.Jonas Salk, the inventor of the polio vaccine (小儿麻痹症疫苗),was asked in 1955 whether he had a patent on the vaccine,he replied,“Could you patent the sun ”
Myriad Genetics, however, says that the genes it identified are not like the sun.It notes that there are 20,000 genes in the human body and that it has sorted through all those genes and found the two that are closely related to breast cancer.
Not so,say those challenging the patent.Human genes are products of nature. They are just a part of the human body.“All Myriad does is take the part out of the body,” says the challengers’ lawyer,Christopher Hansen.“Can the person who first takes the heart out of the body patent on hearts ”
Rochelle Dreyfuss,a patent expert who is not associated with this case,is a little more down to earth.“At some level it is about money,” he says,“because medicine doesn’t happen for free. The patent system is very important to encourage companies to spend more money on scientific research and development.”
Then how do other countries handle this tricky situation Most countries approve patents on genes, but they also allow other scientists to use the genes freely to do research and develop new medicines and testing methods.
9.Which of the following can be patented according to the US patent law
The law of gravity force. A unique orbit found in space.
A new medicine based on BRCA 1. The basic working principle of planes.
10.What is Christopher Hansen’s argument against the patent
A product of nature can’t be patented.
Public interests should be put before profits.
It is unacceptable to the other countries in the world.
The connection between genes and cancers is not obvious.
11.What does the underlined phrase “down to earth” in paragraph 7 mean
Angry. Rude.
Smart. Practical.
12.What is the last paragraph mainly about
The consequences of the lawsuit. Other countries’ solution to the case.
The public reactions to the news. Some scientists’ support for the patent.
Ⅱ.七选五(每小题2.5分,共12.5分)
(2025·湖北高三联考)Life isn’t fair. Some people just seem blessed with the ability to effortlessly charm anyone they meet.Well,it might seem like a magical power, but in fact there are a number of factors at work. 1 The answer is:to a large extent, yes, you can.
But first, the bad news.People initially judge each other based purely on physical appearance. With just a glimpse of a face, people make snap judgments about each other’s likeability, trustworthiness and confidence. How should we deal with this 2 People perceive a smiling face as more trustworthy, warmer and more sociable. It sounds like common sense, doesn’t it Smile and others will smile with you.
What other tricks might we have 3 Consequently, three things we can do to signal that we are not a threat are to:raise our eyebrows quickly, tilt (倾斜) our heads slightly, and once again, smile.
So we’ve looked at body language, but of course what you say is hugely important too, unless you want to just stand there grinning foolishly. The golden rule of friendship is if you make people feel good about themselves, they’re going to like you.In other words, you should not talk about yourself and all your wonderful achievements. 4
Finally, finding common ground is good for forming a connection.Charming people are particularly skilled at seeking out shared interests or experiences to bond with others.Simple things like asking where someone’s from really can open up a discussion and allow you to find areas in common. And if all else fails, you can fall back on that most British of topics:the weather. 5
A.It can be a nice start of a conversation.
B.Instead, you need to show interest in them.
C.There’s one incredibly simple tool:your smile.
D.So,can you learn to develop superhuman charm

Ⅰ.阅读理解(每小题2.5分,共20分)
(2025·昆明“三诊一模”高三质量检测)In Takoma Park,Maryland,in suburban Washington, people, adults or students, lined up at a pay phone outside a restaurant several times a week.
“Once I put the phone out there,it just took off,” said David Schulman,a Takoma Park violinist who created the Bird Calls Phone.Listeners push 1 to hear a yellow-crowned night heron (夜鹭),7 to hear a pileated (有羽冠的) woodpecker’s call and 9 for the distinct scream of a red-tailed hawk.Instructions about how to use the phone are in three languages:English,Spanish and Amharic—a reflection of Takoma Park’s Ethiopian community. In all,10 birds native to the Takoma Park area are featured.
Studies show in addition to being fun, listening to birdsong can reduce stress and anxiety.Even hearing recordings of birds can relieve negative emotions. After noticing an abandoned, nonworking pay phone in town,Schulman wondered if he could turn it into something appealing. He said,“I really like the old technology of just picking up a receiver, pressing one button and having something happen.”Schulman thought bringing bird sounds to the abandoned phone was a way to add a bit of nature to the neighborhood.
Takoma Park city officials agreed, and they budgeted $5,000 to complete the project.Schulman reached out to the Macaulay Library in Ithaca,New York, which agreed to send him a few dozen recordings of native birds. He then managed to gain the help of Branden Hall,a software engineer and artist,to rewire the phone to play different bird calls.Schulman said he persuaded several of his friends to record short descriptions of each bird to go with the calls.
“One thing I like about the Bird Calls Phone is that it’s the opposite of a loud broadcast,”Schulman said.“Only one person can listen at a time, and each person will take away their own unique experience.”
1.What will listeners hear if they press buttons on the pay phone
The calls of native birds. Songs in different languages.
Descriptions of local creatures. Instructions on reducing stress.
2.Which of the following best describes David Schulman
Observant and nature-loving. Diligent and easy-going.
Serious and public-spirited. Ambitious and kind-hearted.
3.What can be inferred about the project
It encourages art appreciation.
It presents the harmony among birds.
It turns loud broadcasts into private phones.
It receives broad support from the community.
4.What can be a suitable title for the text

(2025·东北师大附中高三模拟)Proper questioning has become a lost art.The curious four-year-old asks a lot of questions—incessant streams of “Why ”and “Why not ”which might sound familiar, but as we grow older, our questioning decreases. In a recent survey of more than 200 of our clients,we found that those with children estimated that 70%-80% of their kids’ dialogues with others were comprised of questions. But those same clients said that only 15%-25% of their own interactions consisted of questions. Why the drop-off
Think back to your time growing up and in school.Chances are you received the most recognition or reward when you got the correct answers.Later in life, that motivator continues. At work,we often reward those who answer questions, not those who ask them.Questioning conventional wisdom can even lead to being distanced,or considered a threat.
Because expectations for decision-making have gone from “get it done soon” to “get it done now” to “it should have been done yesterday”,we tend to jump to conclusions instead of asking more questions. And the unfortunate side effect of not asking enough questions is poor decision-making.That’s why it’s vital that we slow down and take the time to ask more and better questions. At best,we’ll arrive at better conclusions. At worst,we’ll avoid a lot of reworking later on.
Aside from not speaking up enough, many professionals don’t think about how different types of questions can lead to different outcomes. We should lead a conversation by asking the right kinds of questions, based on the problem we’re trying to solve. In some cases,we’ll want to expand our view of the problem rather than keeping it narrowly focused. In others,we may want to challenge basic assumptions or confirm our understanding in order to feel more confident in our conclusions. Therefore, asking the right kinds of questions is what counts in achieving a goal.
5.What does the underlined word “incessant” in paragraph 1 most probably mean
Constant. Random.
Noisy. Innocent.
6.What accounts for the decline of questioning in adulthood
One poses a threat to the company if they ask questions.
Those who ask questions don’t necessarily get positive feedback.
One doesn’t have as many opportunities as they did in childhood.
Those who question popular beliefs don’t have interpersonal skills.
7.What can we infer from paragraph 3
Redoing is unavoidable despite thoughtful questions.
Better questions can surely result in desirable outcomes.
Some people think it can’t be too fast to make a decision.
We’ll make reasonable decisions as long as we ask questions.
8.What might the author continue talking about
Proper questions that should be raised. Important goals that we are to achieve.
Right kinds of answers to the questions. The reasons for the loss of questioning art.

The crowd erupted into deafening applause. We had done it! We had won the match! We jumped for joy and whooped. Our captain stood up,his face beaming with pride. He hugged each one of us tightly, congratulating us on our hard-earned victory.Tom limped over, his face lit up with a smile despite his injury. We were all overwhelmed with joy and relief. It was a bitter-sweet moment as we realised it was our captain’s last game, but we were glad that we could give him the win he desired. As we walked off the court, our heads held high,we knew that this was a match we would remember for the rest of our lives. And I’ve learned from the match that if you are determined to do something, you will manage to achieve it! 必修第三册 UNIT 5 THE VALUE OF MONEY

A One-woman Cinderella Show
Is Coming to Fairfield
A one-woman show that reimagines the classic fairytale Cinderella is coming to the Fairfield Community Arts Center. The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati will present Cinderella Wore Cowboy Boots for one night only on Jan.26.The traveling show is for children ages 4 and up and promises “knee-slapping” comedic moments and heartwarming life lessons.
“I love children’s theatre,” says Rosvic Siason, who plays Cinderella.“Kids are our future and we introduce them to these stories. We all have situations at one point in our life that look like this conversation. It just kind of helps you develop your brain and learn how to think as a developing person. It’s really important to expose kids to theatre and well-rounded actors they can talk to for guidance.”
These one-man,one-woman shows have so much beauty because it is very raw.People actually follow along much easier than you think. It’s easy to share a feeling. They will be expected to interact, deliver lines and repeat after Cinderella throughout the production.Cinderella Wore Cowboy Boots will deliver a funny, meaningful twist on the classic fairytale that encourages audiences to expand their imagination.
“Using imagination helps kids to think of things in more ways than one,” Siason says.“It opens them up and makes them think,‘Hey,this is one way this could work.’Or,‘I could try this way,’and then see what happens.”
Visit fairfieldcity.org for tickets and more information.

(2025·南京、盐城高三模拟二)“Anxiety”.The very word invites discomfort. Its effects—shortness of breath,a pounding heart, muscle tension—are outright upsetting. But,as a clinician,I find that we tend to miss out on many valuable opportunities presented by this human emotion. In and of itself, anxiety is not deadly, nor is it a disease.Quite the contrary,it is an indicator of brain and sensory health.Once we accept that it is a normal, though uncomfortable, part of life,we can use it to help us.
We all know working out at the gym is hard.By nature,a “good workout” is uncomfortable, since it involves pushing our physical strength past what we can easily do.The sweet spot of exercise is always a somewhat challenging experience.Similarly,if you want to be emotionally stronger, you need to face some tension. For example, one effective treatment for fear is exposure therapy (疗法),which involves gradually encountering things that make one anxious, reducing fear over time.
Humans are social creatures. When my patients learn to open up to their partners about their anxiety, they almost always report a greater sense of emotional closeness. Also,as international relationship expert Sue Johnson teaches, when we express our need for connection during challenging moments (e.g.,“I’m having a hard time right now and I really need your support”),it creates greater connection and turns our anxiety into love.
From time to time,we find ourselves at the end of our rope. Our responsibilities pile up,our resources break down, and we feel uncomfortably anxious—what we’re experiencing is called stress.Simply put,the demands placed upon us outweigh our available resources, just like a set of scales (天平) going out of balance.Focusing on work and pretending everything is OK only lead to disastrous results.Medical treatment for stress may function for a while, but it tends to make things worse in the long run.The only solution to deal with stress is to do the mathematics to balance the scales.
4.What does the author say about anxiety
It is an invitation to diseases. It indicates stable mental health.
It costs us many valuable chances. It is a natural emotional expression.
5.Why does the author mention “good workout” in paragraph 2
To prove how exercise influences emotions.
To suggest an effective way to challenge limits.
To explain how anxiety builds emotional strength.
To show a positive connection between mind and body.
6.What is paragraph 3 mainly about
The key to closeness is partners’ support. Sharing anxiety improves relationships.
Humans are defined by their social nature. Expressing feelings keeps us off anxiety.
7.According to the last paragraph, how can we deal with stress
Devote more energy to our work. Increase resources available to us.
Seek professional medical treatment. Master advanced mathematical skills.
(2025·济南高三模拟)Like many people over the past few years,I have found myself turning to audiobooks as my main means of reading literature.I find it far more comfortable to “read with my ears” while my eyes are resting. My consumption of new books has doubled as a result—but a recent paper makes me wonder if this will come at the price of my comprehension.
The study comes from Boaz Keysar and Janet Geipel, both at the University of Chicago, and it draws from the “dual process model” of mental processing.According to this view,we have two ways of assessing information.System 1 is intuitive (直觉的),relying on natural ability and feeling. It is quick, but likely exposed to misinformation.System 2 is analytical, involving the use of logic reasoning. It is mentally demanding. When it is engaged,we think through the material step by step.
For decades, psychologists have designed various tests to determine which of these two systems a person is using.Imagine you’re helping prepare for a small dinner party and are tasked with arranging the dining settings for seven guests.Instinctively, you lay out seven complete sets of cutlery (餐具).However, your friend mentions that among the guests is a very young child, leading you to rethink your initial set-up.Realizing the child won’t need a standard set of cutlery as the adult, you opt to replace it with a child-friendly spoon. That is the kind of analytical process.
Keysar and Geipel’s brilliant idea was to investigate whether the sensory form—seeing vs.hearing—of the information would make a difference. They found that it did:when answering these kinds of simple questions, participants were more likely to make errors when the sentences were spoken out loud, rather than written.
A greater reliance on our feelings could be a problem if we are consuming information that needs logical study. For this reason,I will return to reading non-fiction with my eyes rather than my ears. But I won’t stop listening to novels.I am quite happy to go with the flow of my emotions while my critical mind takes a break.
8.What does the author think of listening to audiobooks
It is economical. It is demanding.
It is time-consuming. It is relaxing.
9.Which of the following best describes System 2 model
Fairly reliable. Fully automatic.
Question-centered. Emotion-involved.
10.Why is the dining setting task mentioned in Paragraph 3
To present a fact. To illustrate a view.
To introduce a topic. To draw a conclusion.
11.What does the author intend to tell us
Listening to books comes at a price. Reading non-fiction books benefits.
Critical thinking is a must in reading. Ways of processing information differ.

(2025·开封高三模拟)Taking care of your emotional health is as important as taking care of your physical body.If your emotional health is out of balance, you may experience high blood pressure, ulcers (溃疡),chest pain,or a host of other physical symptoms. When you feel good about yourself,it’s much easier to cope with life’s little ups and downs as well as bigger events, such as divorce or a death.
1 .These strategies will help you stay resilient (恢复力强的) through everyday stresses and when larger personal issues arise.
·Grow your circle of friends to expand your support system.
“It’s very important that you have a support group of friends and family,” Dr.Gardere says.“ 2 —people who will listen to you when you need to get things off your chest—so that you know you’re not alone in whatever they are.”
· 3 .
You can eat what you want and enjoy it as long as you eat smaller portions and get regular exercise.Maintaining a healthy weight is important for your physical and emotional health.Besides, you can try some kinds of activities to relieve stress, like meditating or practicing yoga. 4 .Other stress-reducing techniques include deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation. If you’re unsure of how to get started, take a class and learn how to practice on your own for 30 minutes, three times a week.
·Learn to say no and refrain from overextending yourself.
If you try to do more than you can handle, you will only end up frustrated and stressed out. There are times when someone asks you to do something you absolutely can’t do. 5 .
A.Form the habit of exercising regularly
B.Cultivate a healthy and moderate lifestyle
C.In this case, say no and explain why kindly but firmly
D.These types of activities are effective for stress management
E.You need people whom you can talk to about your problems

4.D [细节理解题。根据第一段中的“In and of itself...it is an indicator of brain and sensory health.”可知,焦虑本身并不是致命的,也不是一种疾病。恰恰相反,它是大脑和感官健康的一个指标。由此可知,作者认为焦虑是人类的一种自然的情感表达,故选D项。]
5.C [细节理解题。根据第二段中的“By nature,a ‘good workout’ is uncomfortable...you need to face some tension.”

空后提到“当你需要倾诉心事时,会听你倾诉的人”,因此空处内容也应涉及类似的这些人,E项中的“people whom you can talk to about your problems”与此相呼应,故选E项。]
3.B [空处是段落主旨句。根据其他小标题的特征可知,空处也应该是祈使句。再结合下文的“you eat smaller portions and get regular exercise”(你吃得少一点,经常锻炼)、“Maintaining a healthy weight”(保持健康的体重)以及“try some kinds of activities to relieve stress”(尝试一些活动来缓解压力)可知,B项“养成健康合理的生活方式”最能概括本段的内容,故选B项。]
D项中的“These types of activities”与空前的“some kinds of activities to relieve stress”相呼应,故选D项。]
