When creative architectural minds are given free reign over their creations, some truly unique buildings are born.
Habitat 67(Montreal, Canada)
Habitat 67's unique architecture was designed by a young Canadian-Israeli immigrant named Moshe Safdie for
Montreal's 1967 Universal Exposition (博览会). The building was designed to integrate the advantages of suburban living
— namely privacy, gardens and multiple floors — in an urban environment.
Sagrada Familia(Barcelona, Spain)
When modernist architect Antoni Gaudi took the reins in 1883, a year after the construction began, he turned just
another church into his masterpiece. Its complex designs and themes make the Sagrada Familia among the most unique
architecture in the world. When it's finally finished in 2026, its iconic design will have long since been established as one of
the great achievements of architecture.
Longaberger Basket Building(Newark, America)
There are plenty of buildings out there that reflect their purpose, like the Kansas City library that looks like a row of
books. The Longaberger Basket Building is one of this kind. Head office of the Longaberger Company produces baskets
which can be found around the world. The Longaberger founder's son wanted all the other Longaberger buildings to look
like its products too.
Atomium(Brussels, Belgium)
Another example of an offbeat construction for a World's Fair, the Atomium was built for the 1958 edition of the
Universal Exposition held in Brussels, Belgium by André Waterkeyn. Unlike Habitat 67, it wasn't meant to be a residential
building. Instead it contains exhibition rooms and public halls. The building itself is designed to be a copy of the structure

In a heartwarming tale from Georgia, a 72-year-old senior recently celebrated his college graduation in cinema studies,
an achievement made even more special by the presence of his proud 99-year-old mother.
Sam Kaplan of Lawrenceville decided to start on his educational journey at Georgia Gwinnett College in 2019, half a
century after he had firstly chosen not to get higher education following his high school graduation in 1969. The catalyst for
his return to academia came when he heard a radio announcement about a degree programme in cinema studies.
Recalling that moment, Kaplan said,“I was driving down the highway when I heard about the degree programme. The
next exit led to Collinsville, so I immediately exited, and within five minutes, I was enrolling in classes. I’ve always had a
passion for writing and storytelling. I longed to transform my narratives into screenplays, but I realized I needed the basic
knowledge to do so,”
Kaplan admitted that the journey was a mix of anxiety and excitement, but it proved to be greatly rewarding. He
graduated with a 3.975 grade point average and perfect grade honours, majoring in cinema and media arts, and had desires
to continue creating screenplays in the future.
“It was an exciting and nerve-wracking (神经紧张的) challenge. Re-recognizing myself with the art of studying and
communicating with fellow students was a lot of fun,” he told FOX5 Atlanta.
The most heartwarming thing of Kaplan’ s graduation day was the presence of his mother, 99-year-old Virginia
Kaplan, during the ceremony. Virginia expressed her huge pride, saying, “ I am so proud of him. He faced numerous
challenges but insisted, and I am delighted, pleased, and extremely proud,”the mother also added.“With his new degree, he’
s going to stand out in whatever he does. Who knows, I might even make an appearance in the movies.”

Tilapia (罗非鱼) skin is rich in collagen (胶原蛋白), a protein that helps build and repair tissues. Because of this,
tilapia skin has become popular in medicine. Researchers have used it for various treatments, including helping burn victims
and fixing problems related to the stomach and heart.
Inspired by colleagues in other medical fields, Mirza Melo, an eye doctor for animals in Brazil, decided to try using
tilapia skin to treat eye problems in dogs. She focused on eye problems like corneal ulcers and perforations, which are
common in dogs with short noses. “These dogs have eyes sticking out from their faces,” she says. “So they get injured
often. ”
Normally, doctors treat these eye injuries by placing a piece of horse placenta (胎盘) over the damaged area to help it
recover. But in 2019, Melo tried using tilapia skin instead. She successfully treated a Shih Tzu (a species of dog) with a
severe eye injury.
Brazil’s Burn Support Institute and the Federal University of Ceará, which started the Tilapia Skin Project to treat
burns, supported her work. With their help, Melo developed a special membrane (膜) called the acellular dermal matrix
(ADM), made from pure collagen taken from tilapia skin.
Collagen is known to help cells grow and repair tissues. Tilapia skin has a high and consistent quality of collagen
throughout the fish’s life, while the quality of horse placental collagen can vary depending on the horse’s age and weight.
So far, Melo has treated over 400 dogs using tilapia skin. The dogs showed no pain or infection after surgery and
healed quickly with minimal scarring. Melo is now planning to use this technique on cats and is even discussing how to
adapt it for treating human eyes, which are very sensitive and difficult to treat.
28.Why is Tilapia popular in medicine
A.For its eyes. B.For its skin. C.For its blood. D.For its oil.
29.What makes the dogs with short noses frequently get injured
A.Their eyes’ position. B.Their playful nature.
C.Their active movement. D.Their hair’s length.
30.What can we infer about horse placental collagen
A.It is only related to horses’ weight.
B.It is easier to obtain than tilapia collagen.
C.It is not affected by horses’ type and weight.
D.It is not always available at any stage of horses’ growth.
31.What does the author intend to convey in the last paragraph
A.Melo’s concern for tilapia
B.Melo’s confidence in teaching.

C.The characteristic of tilapia’s collagen.
D.The application of tilapia’s collagen.

If you’ve noticed you’re getting less while your bill almost stays the same, it’s not just you. “Shrinkflation” —
reducing a product’s size or quantity while keeping its price stable — is showing up in shops around the world.
As the global economy struggles with inflation (通货膨胀), rising material costs and higher human cost, consumers are
bearing the increasing production prices. “Consumers are more likely to notice how their purchases are affecting their
wallets than the amount of product lost when sizes decrease,” says Mark Stiving, the chief pricing educator at Impact
Pricing. As a result, companies use shrinkflation to make consumers “less painful”.
Yet even as shrinkflation comes with inflation, the problem doesn’t end after inflation does. Once the new sizes are on
the shelf, they are likely to stay that way. “Shoppers don’t have a choice. They have to adapt themselves to the changes,”
adds Stiving. There are rare exceptions, but companies generally take the opportunity to get more profits.
For many companies, shrinkflation seems to be unavoidable. In food industry, for example, where customers are highly
sensitive to price, lifting prices might make customers jump ship to another brand. But facing the continuous inflation, the
companies have to do something to maintain their profits. Introducing small reduction in the size of their goods should
enable them to improve profits while keeping their prices competitive. But once customers notice the change, they might
feel fooled, leading to a loss of trust and confidence.
Some grocers are using stickers to remind shoppers of shrinkflation, but still, it’s a tough hit to the bottom line —
especially because the price of products generally doesn’t fall as inflation does. Consumers may need to examine both price
and size sensibly as they shop, and make sure they don’t fall into the trap of that super size on the shelf.
32.Why does shrinkflation make consumers “less painful” according to Stiving
A.Shrinkflation reduces human cost.
B.Shrinkflation raises purchasing power.
C.Consumers become more aware of size.
D.Consumers experience little increase in cost.
33.What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A.The concerns of shoppers. B.The interests of companies.
C.The impact of shrinkflation. D.The phenomenon of inflation.
34.What is the author’s attitude to the shrinkflation in paragraph 4
A.Favorable.B.Objective.
C.Dismissive. D.Unclear.
35.What should consumers do according to the last paragraph
A.Draw a bottom line. B.Put warning stickers.
C.Choose smaller packs. D.Make a conscious decision.

If you are a perfectionist, you follow high standards and always try to do everything well. 36 Researchers
find pursuing perfection can have serious effects on mental health.
In a 2016 study, researchers studied the relationship between perfectionism and depression over time. 37
Although people may believe that their perfectionism contributes to their success, it seems to be harmful to their mental
health.
Is perfectionism always harmful 38 Some suggest the possibility of adaptive perfectionism, where people
stick to high standards without self-criticism of their own mistakes. However, others believe that perfectionism is not
adaptive and they don’t think it is beneficial.
So what can perfectionists do to change their behavior Psychologists point out that giving up on perfection does not
necessarily mean less success. 39 A possible alternative to perfectionism is what psychologists call a growth
mindset. Unlike those with a fixed mindset, those with a growth mindset believe that they can improve their abilities by
learning from their mistakes.
40 To understand self-sympathy, think about how you would respond to a close friend if they made a mistake.
It is likely that you will respond with kindness and understanding, knowing that your friend is doing it out of good
intentions.
A.Another is to cultivate sympathy for oneself.
B.Psychologists have heated debates over this issue.
C.In the long run, accepting imperfection can actually help.
D.Perfectionism can be beneficial in some certain situations.
E.High standards are one thing, but perfectionism is another.
F.The key to overcoming perfectionism is to avoid it at all cost.
G.They found high levels of perfectionism often increased depression.

第二节(满分 25 分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My great-grandmother, my grandmother, and my mother are teachers, and so are all my family. My mother had a
fixed idea that I would become a teacher, too. Although I respected her and was indeed skilled at teaching something to my
little cousins, I didn’t agree that I should naturally follow in my mother’s footsteps.
When I was a teenager, my mother happened to take me to a hospital which was run by one of her friends. It was the
first time I had seen a busy medical environment in real life in person. Finding that I was curious about treating patients, my
mother’s friend Dr. Lee offered me an opportunity to shadow him (跟他实地参观) for a day. I eagerly accepted his offer!
Observing the doctors and nurses in action, I felt a mix of anxiety and excitement. Seeing the healing (治愈) process and the
impact of medical care on patients was a profoundly moving experience. I figured being a doctor would be the most
rewarding career in the world. From that day, a thought formed in my mind that I wanted to become a doctor, but I doubted
whether my mother would support me. After all, it was a completely different path from what she had planned for me.
Therefore, I kept the thought to myself, because I knew she would still insist on holding onto her previous idea.
Anyway, besides discussing with my mother about teaching, I would often visit Dr. Lee’s hospital. Gradually, I got
familiar with the medical equipment and procedures, and I learned a lot about healthcare, such as how to take vital signs (测
生命体征), how to assist in minor surgeries, and so on. But what I had learned in the hospital just left me wanting more, so
I decided to go to college to become a professional doctor.
