My job is to train rats to find landmines (地雷) so the dangers can be cleared to save lives. I work for a Belgian non-governmental organization called Apopo that operates from Morogoro, in my home country of Tanzania. The rats I train are used in mine-clearing programs around the world, including in Angola, Azerbaijan and Cambodia.
The animals we use are a species of African giant rat called Cricetomys ansorgei (非洲巨鼠). They are born in sub-Saharan Africa and are the size of a small cat, which makes them easy to catch. They also live longer than other rats, which is helpful for the program, because it takes between nine months and a year to train one fully.
My colleagues and I use a method called clicker training: we teach the rats to relate a click with a food reward, and then use clicks to gradually reward behaviour. Rats are naturally curious, so they will explore, and their great sense of smell means they can find buried landmines.
To teach the rats what to look for, we place small amounts of TNT explosives in some tea eggs and mix them with some filled with other things. We reward the rats for touching these, then move on to reward them only when they touch a tea egg filled with explosives, rather than ones filled with other things, such as hair, flowers and so on. The rats need to perform perfectly at each stage of training before they move to the next stage. In the final stage, we use real landmines in a training field.
As trainers, we build a connection with the rats we train. Some are slow learners; others know the process very quickly. Most of the rats make it through, eventually. I work with our resident scientist to continually follow and improve our training program, because the rats are so clever that they can be smarter than trainers!
24. Why did the author choose to use Cricetomys ansorgei
A. They’re easy to get. B. They can be seen commonly.
C. They’re quickly trained. D. They live for up to a year.
25. What’s the key to the training
A. Making the rats get used to the click. B. Increasing the difficulty gradually.
C. Exercising rats’ sense of smell. D. Linking behavior and rewards.
26. What can be learn from the training process
A. Rats can find out all the explosives accurately.
B. The training won’t stay the same.
C. Real landmines aren’t used in training.
D. Most rats are quick learners.
27. Which is the best title for the text
A. How I Train Rats to Find Explosives B. Why Giant Rats Can Be Useful
C. How Rats Contribute to Saving Life D. Why We Use Clicker to Train Rats

At the end of a math lesson that Diane Moon taught virtually (虚拟地) earlier this month to her students, the middle school teacher in Illinois had star-shaped stickers covering her face.
It was all part of an effort by Moon and other teachers across the country to keep their students engaged (参与) while virtual learning continues as the COVID-19 pandemic worsens in the United States.
“It's been really difficult,” Moon said of trying to teach her students through computer screens. “Sometimes I feel like I'm just talking to myself and it's just slower because I have to wait for students to respond.”
Moon said she had no hesitation to have a try when a colleague (同事) showed her a video in which a teacher put a sticker on her face each time a new student spoke out during class.
“I put some competition into it because I made it a battle between my three classes,” she said. “I told them that every time someone new takes part, I would put a new sticker on and we'll see which class has the most.”
Moon said she heard from students who had not spoken out all term, and saw her students come together and encourage each other to speak up, saying things like, “It's OK if the answer is wrong.”
Inspired by the success, Moon took a video of her face covered in stickers and shared it on the Internet, where it went viral (疯传).
In response to Moon's post, a fifth-grade teacher, Isa, later shared that she was using pipe cleaners in her hair to encourage students to turn on their cameras and speak up in class. She said, “The stickers started to irritate (刺激) our skin, so we moved on to pipe cleaners in our hair! Huge hit! We recommend it!”
“It shows that we're all doing all we can to engage students,” said Moon.
28. What made Moon put stickers on her face
A. A teaching failure. B. The competition for attention.
C. The desire to engage students. D. A challenge from her colleagues.
29. What was Moon's students' attitude towards the battle
A. They loved it. B. They doubted it.
C. They were curious about it. D. They showed little interest in it.
30. Why did Isa use pipe cleaners instead of stickers
A. Her students disliked stickers. B. She didn't have enough stickers.
C. It was cheaper to use pipe cleaners. D. Stickers made her skin uncomfortable.
31. What is the purpose of the text
A. To support virtual learning. B. To praise teachers' creativity.
C. To recommend a teaching aid. D. To encourage students to learn.

Lately, it's felt like technological change has entered an incredible panies like OpenAI and Google have unveiled new Artificial intelligence systems with incredible capabilities, making what once seemed like science fiction an everyday reality. It's an era that is raising big, existential questions for us all, about everything from the future of human existence to the future of human work.
“Things are changing so fast,” says Erik Brynjolfsson, a leading, technology-focused economist based at Stanford University. As he notes, this new wave of technological change looks like it could be pretty different. Unlike before experienced and skilled workers benefited mostly from AI technology. In this new wave, it's the less experienced and less skilled workers who benefit the most. “And that might be helpful in terms of closing some of the inequality that previous technologies actually promoted,” Brynjolfsson says. So one benefit of intelligence machines is-maybe -they will improve the know-how and smarts of low performers, thereby reducing inequality.
But it's also possible that AI could lower the profit of the experienced, smart, or knowledgeable ones. AI could reduce inequality by bringing the bottom up, and it could also reduce inequality by bringing the top and middle down.
Of course, as Erik put, it's also possible that AI could end up increasing inequality even more. For one, it could make the Big AI companies, which own these powerful new systems, wildly rich. It could also empower business owners to replace more and more workers with intelligent machines. And it could kill jobs for all but the best of the best in various industries, who keep their jobs because maybe they're superstars or because maybe they have seniority.
The effects of AI, of course, are still very much being studied - and these systems are evolving fast - so this is just an assumption. This machine intelligence could upend much of the previous thinking on which kinds of jobs will be affected by automation.
32. What do the underlined words “the know-how and smarts” mean in paragraph 2
A. Experience and intelligence. B. Skills and potential.
C. Abilities and experience. D. Outlook and talents.
33. Who will gain more in this new AI era
A. The senior with high rank. B. The new with little experience.
C. The learned with great credit. D. The poor with practical skills.
34. Which statement will Erik probably agree with
A. The fast development of AI will promote the division of inequality.
B. The best of all walks of life will survive the competition against AI systems.
C. Giant AI companies will be the winner in the future world of new AI systems.
D. Lower rank workers with little knowledge are bound to be abandoned by employers.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text 4.
A. The Fast Growth of the World B. The Influence of the Inequality
C. The Impact of the AI System D. The Future of the AI Generation

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated(不耐烦的), to find his 5-year-old son waiting for him at the door.
“Daddy, may I ask you a question ”
“Yeah sure, what is it ” replied the man.
“Daddy, how much do you make an hour ”
“That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing ” the man said angrily.
“I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour ” pleaded the little boy.
“If you must know, I make $20 an hour.”
“Oh,” the little boy replied, with his head down. Looking up, he said, “Daddy, may I please borrow $10 ”
The father was angry, “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard every day for such childish behavior.” The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and, started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door. “Are you asleep, son ” He asked.
“No, daddy, I'm awake,” replied the boy.
“I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier,” said the man. “It's been a long day and I took out my anger on you. Here's the $10 you asked for.”
The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh. Thank you, daddy!” He yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled(皱皱巴巴的) up bills.

第二节(满分25分)
The man, seeing that the boy already had money started to get angry again. “How can you be so selfish Why do you want more money since you already have these bills ”The father could hardly hold his anger back and inquired with two eyebrows knitted into one. With held-back tears in his eyes, the little boy slowly and carefully counted out his money, and then looked up at his father, replying, “Because I didn’t have enough before, but now I do.” big blue eyes shining with tears.
Not knowing what his son meant, the father just stood there, waiting for his boy’s explanation. Wiping away his tears and an innocent smile appearing on his face, the boy requested in a relieved voice, “Daddy, I have $ 20 now. Can I buy an hour from you Please come home early tomorrow. I want to have dinner with you.” Hearing the boy’s small but sincere request, the father couldn’t help shedding tears. Realizing he was too busy with his business to spare some time with his beloved ones, he gathered his son into his arms and apologized again and again, “sorry…, and I promise I’ll be back early tomorrow.”
