My PhD adviser called me into his office, saying I needn't bring my notebook. After 15 minutes of listing my positive things, he looked me in the eye and said, “You are fired from the lab.”
I had moved to Israel from my native India the year before, excited to experience a new culture and study for a PhD. At first things went well in my new lab. Then, 3 months before I was fired, I ran into some problems. I made a few mistakes in the lab that slowed my research, but I wasn't aware that my adviser noticed them, and he never spoke to me about any concerns. I'm still not sure why he fired me, but I guess it was because of those mistakes. He wasn't confident that I could complete my research in time as we'd planned.
The first few days after I was fired were especially difficult. I spent hours staring at my computer screen, unable to get anything done. One day all I could do was sit on a beach, crying. I tried to change his mind with promising results, but he stuck to his decision. I could not break the news to my family in India, as the fear of disappointing them overwhelmed (压垮) me. I soon got into a state of sadness and anxiety. Meanwhile, the date for me to leave the country was drawing near, as my visa required me to be registered as a student. I was lonely and without hope.
Around that time, I watched Dasvidaniya, a Bollywood movie that's about a man who has 3 months to live. One line from the movie stuck out to me: “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” What kind of lemonade could I make out of my present situation My desire to complete a PhD was never in doubt. After much reflection, I told myself that one failed attempt was not the end of the world, and that I needed to give it another try. With renewed confidence, I emailed expected advisers and applied to other programs. Within 2 months, I landed an offer from a PhD program in Italy. I accepted it and relocated to Europe, happy that my goal of completing a PhD was alive once again.
I'm thankful that I didn't give up on my dream and that I found another professor willing to take me on.

A series of books in Chinese and English covering eight classic works of Peking Opera recently released, with the aim of revealing details about the art form in a direct way.
The bilingual books are from the Translation Series of a Hundred Jingju Classics, a project originated from 2011, which is part of the effort by the central government to promote Chinese culture overseas.
Peking Opera, with its complex and colorful costumes and make up, as well as the unique performance combining singing, dialogue, acting and acrobatics (杂技), has become a symbol of traditional Chinese culture. Over the last 200 years, more than 1,000 Peking Opera shows have been produced telling the most classic historical stories in China, as well as giving glimpses of society, according to Wang. The art form was listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (非物质文化遗产) by UNESCO in 2010. Famous performers such as Mei Lanfang and Cheng Yanqiu have also taken Peking Opera abroad. And though foreign fans are impressed by it, few understand the stories told on stage.
To help foreigners understand the art form better, Sun Ping, dean, School of Art, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and her team have edited the new books. Different from previous English translations of books that mostly covered the scripts (剧本) of Peking Opera plays, the new series introduces nearly all aspects of the art form, including the script, actors and actresses, performance skills, musical instruments and costumes, according to Sun, who is herself a highly regarded Peking Opera artist.
“It fills the blank in overseas promotions of Peking Opera,” says Liu Jian, a professor at the National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts. “The inheritance and promotion of Peking Opera are very important. In a sense, promotion is even more important. The project sets a good example.”
Scott Ian Rainen, an expert from the United States, who works at China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, says he was happy to read the new books. Foreigners often don't understand the plot in a Peking Opera play, but the books introduce the cultural and historical background, its character modeling, costumes and props, artistic theories and so on.

A.To stress the importance of Peking Opera.
B.To attract foreigners to learn Peking Opera.

B.The brief introduction of Peking Opera.

B.They share a more significant art value.
C.They are better in covering the scripts of Peking Opera.
D.They are overall in showing the features of Peking Opera.
11.What is Scott Ian Rainen's attitude towards the new project
A.Subjective. B.Sceptical.

The shadow play is a typical traditional entertainment that has survived and thrived over the centuries. It is taken as an earliest ancestor of modern cinema.
Legend has it that more than 2,000 years ago, Emperor Wu of Han was very depressed about the death of his favorite concubine. To help him get over his sadness, a minister made a puppet out of cotton and silk in the likeness of the concubine and projected its shadow on a curtain for the emperor to see. The show brought the emperor some comfort. He somehow believed the shadow was his lover's spirit. This is thought to be the beginning of the shadow play.
One mouth tells stories of thousands of years; a pair of hands operate millions of soldiers. This is how the shadow puppeteer works. Nicknamed “the business of the five”, a shadow play group is made up of five people. One operates the puppets, one plays suona and yueqin, one plays banhu, one is in charge of percussion instruments, and one sings.
During performances, “actors” are held close to a white curtain with their colored shadows cast on it by a strong light from behind. The operator plays five puppets at the same time, each of which has three threads. Ten fingers handle fifteen threads. Moved by guiding sticks, the puppets play roles with musical accompaniment, the popularity of the shadow play in some way lies in the equipment being light and easy to carry, the small number of people needed for a performance, and the flexible requirements for performance places. The plays can be quite dramatic and, when it comes to myths or kung fu stories, the “actors” may be made to ride on clouds or perform unusual feats, to the great enjoyment of the audience, especially children. The audience can tell a figure's character by seeing his mask. Like the masks in Beijing opera, a red mask represents loyalty and bravery.
Nowadays, the shadow play has been industrialized and developed a series of tourist products for the promotion of Chinese culture and tourism.
12.What is the second paragraph mainly about
A.A love story of Emperor Wu of Han.
B.The origin of the shadow play.
C.How to please an emperor.
D.How to make a cotton puppet.
13.According to the author, the audience may take great pleasure________.
A.when roles are played without music
B.because the equipment is light to carry
C.because the number of the operators is small
D.when the puppets give lively performances
14.What is the author's attitude towards the future of the shadow play
A.Positive. B.Friendly.
C.Doubtful. D.Negative.
15.What is the author's main purpose in writing the text
A.To promote the shadow play.
B.To explain the art of shadow play.
C.To teach people to operate the shadow puppetry.

When Jack was a kid, he and his family left Britain and moved to a foreign country. Although his family was poor, he became a very excellent engineer after college. He knew a lot about the train. For example, he knew that when a fast moving train's speed has a sudden change, it's probably because the track is broken at some distance.
After college, Jack gained a teaching job in a British university. So one summer day he left for Britain by ship. Being poor, he wore worn out clothes, which were even a little messy. But he didn't care about it at all. When he landed on the British shore, he took a train to the city where the university was. On the train, he found other passengers were all rich gentlemen, who wore nice suits and shoes. And he could see all of them were not friendly to him.
After the train started, they began making fun of him. They were angry, unsatisfied with the train guard who allowed him to get on the train with them. Some even wanted to pull the alarm to stop the train.
However, all of this didn't have an effect on Jack. He was sitting there calmly, focusing on the train's condition, including its speed and sound produced by the wheels running on the track. Each time he took a train, he'd pay attention to the train's sound, speed, etc. By doing so, he could feel the train and the track and check whether the train had any possible danger.
That day, when the train was already running at a high speed, the gentlemen still continued to show their unfriendly behaviors to Jack. But Jack remained calm and still focused on the train's running. One hour later, he found there was a sudden change in the train's speed. After further feeling the train's condition, he could decide the track was 100% broken at some distance.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Immediately, he stood up from his seat.

Before someone pointed at him, Jack said to the conductor, “It's me. I stopped the train.”

Immediately, he stood up from his seat. Very anxious, Jack went to the train control room. He stopped the train as soon as he entered the room. The train driver didn’t know who Jack was and became very angry at Jack’s behavior. The passengers on the train were also very angry when they found that the train had stopped. They called the conductor. The conductor arrived quickly and asked who had stopped the train.
Before someone pointed at him, Jack said to the conductor, “It’s me. I stopped the train.” The conductor asked why. “In fact, I’m an engineer.
