When Jane Goodall was young, reading and exploring nature were her ideas of fun. Her mother encouraged her to learn and ask questions. Goodall dreamed of seeing the habitats of her favorite animals on her own.
In 1957, Goodall visited a farm in Kenya, Africa. There, she met a famous paleoanthropologist (古人类学家), Louis Leakey. He was looking for someone to study chimpanzees, which could tell us about early human history. Once he got to know Goodall, he knew she was the perfect person for the job.
Goodall arrived in Tanzania, East Africa, in 1960, and journeyed to the Gombe Stream Game Reserve. She learned early on that studying chimpanzees wouldn't be easy. To observe them up close, she had to take months to gain their trust. To her, the chimpanzees were complex creatures with lives surprisingly similar to humans'. She rejected the practice of identifying chimpanzees by numbers and gave each of them a human name. Goodall was observing chimpanzees she'd named David Greybeard and Goliath. She watched as they made tools out the roots of grass to pick termites (白蚁) out of a nest. Until then, people thought humans were the only species that used tools. Because of Goodall's discovery, chimpanzees are now accepted as intelligent and social animals.
Goodall established the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977 to provide conservation and environmental education. In the late 1980s, her focus changed to something much larger. Deforestation (滥伐森林) and climate change were affecting the world's natural habitats. The plants that the chimpanzees depended on for food were in danger. The fight she began against habitat loss continues today, through animal preserves and research sites.
Throughout her life, Goodall's work has protected the lives of people and animals around the world. And she encourages young people to join this struggle for a better world. Goodall says that the world will be a better place if people do some help.

Do you know how to cycle It is a skill that, once learned, is never forgotten. For the majority of us, the art of balancing on two wheels was mastered during our childhood. Many still wear helmets, put feet on the pedals, and take a ride around the streets. And in recent years, cycling has become more and more popular. What attracts people to ride their bikes once again
Cycling offers a lot of advantages that affect both our physical and mental health. For example, regular cycling can improve the function of our cardiovascular (心血管的)system, assist in the burning of extra body fat and strengthen our leg muscles. A long ride in the countryside helps us to clear our mind easily.
Riding a bike is a smart choice for getting to work, shopping, or sightseeing. You can save money that you would otherwise spend on fuels and fares. Unlike cars that struggle with parking, bikes can be easily locked up. Then on the train, there are chances to be disturbed by other people speaking loudly on their phones or talking loudly face to face. Cyclists face neither of these problems. And if we're worried about safety, there are cycle lanes in many cities, or we can wear light colored clothes to improve our safety when cycling on the roads.
Cycling can also be good for the environment. It cuts our carbon footprint, which means we make less pollution. It's great for our planet and keeps the air clean around us. When we ride bikes, we don't use fuel like cars do, and that's really good for our environment.
Therefore, more and more people choose to ride for many benefits such as improving their health, easily going to work, saving money, protecting the environment, or a combination of these factors.
8.When do most people learn to ride
A.In their free time.
B.After their retirement.
C.At their young ages.
D.During their adulthood.

A.It is a good way to save money.
B.It is a great idea to relax cyclists.
C.It is dangerous to cycle on the roads.
D.It is difficult to find a place park the bike.
10.How does cycling affect the environment
A.Consumes more fuels.
B.Increases air pollution.
C.Causes fewer accidents.
D.Reduces carbon footprint.
11.In which section of a magazine may this text appear
A.Sports & Health.
B.Travel & Culture.
C.Science & Technology.
D.Animals & Environment.

A recent global study, which surveyed 10,000 young people from 10 countries, showed that nearly 60 percent of them were extremely worried about the future state of the planet. The report also showed that nearly half of the respondents (受访者) said that such distress affected them daily, and three quarters agreed with the statement that “the future is frightening.” This, and many other studies, show clearly that climate change is not just a threat to the environment. It also poses a very real threat to our mental health.
Psychologists have classified these feelings of sadness, distress, and worry about the current climate emergency as eco anxiety. According to the Climate Psychology Alliance, eco anxiety is defined as the “intense physical and mental discomfort in response to dangerous changes in the climate system.”
Eco anxiety doesn't just affect young people. It also affects researchers who work in climate and ecological science, burdened by the reality discovered in their findings, and it affects the poor people across the globe, who hopelessly bear the harmful impacts of climate breakdown.
In recent years, we've seen wildfires tear through Canada and Greece, and summer floods destroy regions in Pakistan that are home to nearly 33 million people. Studies have shown that those impacted by air pollution and rising temperatures are more likely to experience mental distress.
The cause of this mental distress is absolutely external. According to Caroline Hickman, a researcher on eco anxiety from the University of Bath, anyone experiencing these emotions is displaying entirely natural and rational reactions to the climate crisis. Her suggestion Take eco anxiety as a tool for good — as an emotion that can urge people to act in protection of our planet.
This is why, in the future, we will also see more people around the world join the fight for climate justice and apply for jobs that seek sustainable development. Eco anxiety is not something we will defeat with therapy — we will solve it by taking action.
12.What does the underlined word “distress” in Paragraph 1 mean
A.Shock. B.Anxiety.
C.Fear. D.Anger.
13.What is eco anxiety according to the Climate Psychology Alliance
A.It is a strong reaction to the natural disasters.
B.It is a kind of mental disease for the young people.
C.It is a physical and mental discomfort when we meet difficulties.
D.It is a strong physical and mental discomfort for the dangerous climate changes.
14.What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 3
A.The process of eco anxiety.
B.The impact of eco anxiety.
C.The causes of eco anxiety.
D.The benefits of eco anxiety.
15.What's the approach to solving eco anxiety according to Caroline Hickman
A.Defeat it with a therapy.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was eleven years old, I moved to Tampa, Florida. My parents traveled for a living, so Aunt Emily took care of me while they were away. One rainy morning, there was an old lady who was dressed in a bright orange coat carrying a rubbish bag and a stick. “What's that old lady doing?”I asked Emily, pointing out the window to the street in front of the house.
Hearing my question, Emily answered, “She's picking up rubbish around here for fun.”“Oh,” I answered. “Interesting ... Why would someone think picking up rubbish was fun?” For a long time, I often saw that old lady — rain or shine — on my way to school. In the beginning, I thought she was crazy to pick up rubbish. However, I finally smiled and waved at her each time I saw her.
Later, when I moved to college, I saw rubbish in the grass and felt really angry about it. I'd think,“Why isn't anyone picking up rubbish People are so unconcerned!” But shortly after that, I said to myself, “Why do I think picking up rubbish is someone else's duty?” And I couldn't walk past trash without feeling guilty (内疚的).
So while walking in the college, I began picking up rubbish and made sure the campus was in better shape than I previously found it. My behavior influenced some students. They started to help out.
Like me, they also picked up rubbish whenever they noticed it. And our college became more beautiful. Seeing it, I began to think, “If I could pick up rubbish outside the college — in other places of the town, it may make a big difference to the town.”
But picking up rubbish in front of many people outside the college needs courage. It could be embarrassing. But it was the right thing to do. I decided to try it.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
One morning, I went out to pick up rubbish.
Then I decided to encourage more students to do this in the town.

第二节(参考范文)
One morning, I went out to pick up rubbish. Some people watched me with a strange look that seemed to say I was crazy. And suddenly, I remembered that old lady who often picked up rubbish years ago. The interesting thing was that I was acting just like her! As strange as it might sound, picking up rubbish is kind of fun for me! Gradually, many people realized I was volunteering to help make our town clean. They praised me and thanked me.
Then I decided to encourage more students to do this in the town. Surprisingly, they agreed and we set up a volunteer organization. We bought each student a bright orange coat with words on it: Let’s make our town cleaner! And we spent time not only picking up rubbish but also sorting through it and recycling it. Something amazing happened — the strangers around us helped out too! I thought to myself, “The old lady made all this happen; she made a big difference to my life.”
