In America, when the eighth graders leave the junior high school, they are often worried and anxious about moving to the senior high school. It is a hard time for them, but it can be an exciting one as well. To make it easier, students need to get familiar with their school.
Even though they’ve already done this in the junior high school, it’s still important to find where their classrooms are. Most schools take students to the senior high school for a visit at the end of their eighth grade year. And most schools also have a freshman (新生) speech for parents and students before the first year begins. Sometimes the main office will give away a map of the school. This can help students and parents to find different places on campus.
One way to know your high school more and make new friends is to join a club or play a sport. Schools often offer chances to join different clubs and play sports. Fall activities begin in August before the first day of school. If you are not interested in sports, there are clubs for any interest, such as drama, dance, chess, photography, community service. These clubs allow students from different grades. By joining in an activity, students can find new friendships and become confident and outgoing, not to mention improving their chances in future college application(申请). The school office will provide a list of the activities offered at the school and information on how to register for and join in them.
What’s more, to have a great start in the high school year, students can write down some of their worries, and ask for help from teachers and school workers.

1.get familiar with... 熟悉…… 2.speech n.演讲
3.give away 分发;赠送 4.not to mention更不用说
5.a list of...……
fall n.秋季
长难句
原句 The school office will provide a list of the activities offered at the school and information on how to register for and join in them.
第一个and连接provide后面两个并列的宾语“ a list of the activities和information”。on 后面的“疑问词+不定式”作宾语,on how to...
3.A 主旨句。
且F项中的“get on top of your study”与本段最后一句中的“Getting on top of your study”照应,故选F。
眼界;范围;地平线 4.head off to...离开前往…… 5.show sb. around sp.带某人参观某地 6.get used to习惯于 7.in place准备妥当;准备就绪 8.make the most of充分利用 9.under great pressure在巨大压力下 10.deal with应付,处理
长难句
原句 While there’s no need to plan every day for the next three years, it can’t hurt to make a note of classes you want to take or activities you’d like to try.
While引导让步状语从句,there’s no need to do sth. 为真正主语;you want to take是省略that/which的定语从句,修饰先行词classes;you’d like to try也是省略that/which的定语从句,修饰先行词activities。
故选A。
4.A 根据句中的“in class”以及第三段第一句中的“Lin enjoys his freedom and flexible teachers”可知,老师(teachers)对于课上做什么更加灵活。故选A。
5.D 根据后半句中的“we can decide what to wear”可知,学校管理不像初中时那么严格(strict)了。故选D。
6.A 根据该段中的“I miss hanging about with my friends in P.E.class”可知,此处指他怀念(misses)在体育课上跟朋友聊天。故选A。
该题容易误选D,因为上文提到Lin失去了方向感,所以可能迷路,但这里想要突出的是“Bathrooms are too far away from classrooms”,所以迟到(late)比迷路(lost)更符合语境。后文的“it’ll take me some time”也表明这里用late比较合适。
goals 后面的that 引导定语从句,that在从句中作设空处的宾语,将先行词goals代入从句中,即they hope to 14 goals,根据固定搭配achieve goals“实现目标”可知选C。
15.B 根据前面的“graduate with excellent grades”可知这里指attend a university“上大学”,故选B。
2.freshman n. 灵活的 4.hang about闲荡 5.opposite adj.
17
