As I watched my son Nathan play basketball for his high school team, I was starting to feel sorry for myself and for him.His team was facing adversity on the court and he was playing in a hostile environment — it was the competitors' home gym filled with their supporters, and Nathan's team was trailing (落后) for three quarters of the game.As for me, I had been fired from my job earlier in the day.
During my drive home, I kept telling myself that I would find work again in a short time — I am confident in my experience and abilities. This is the same belief as I tried to teach my son.
The basketball game entered the fourth quarter with Nathan's team still trailing.I saw the determination on his, as well as his teammates' faces as they fought back to not only tie with the other team, but then go ahead by three points. Then, a player from the other team made an unbelievable shot to tie the score again. With the game in a tie and few seconds on the clock, Nathan found himself with the ball and with skills and confidence, he proceeded to make a basket with a defender hanging all over him.The defender was warned for a foul (犯规).
As Nathan stood at the foul line preparing for a shot that would make his team three points ahead, I saw the determination on his face. There was no room for self doubt.Nathan was able to tune_out all the distractions and nail the free throw with such skill. It was as if he had done it a thousand times.
As I sat there, my heart bursting with pride, it dawned on me.I had taught him perseverance in the face of adversity, and he had just taught me the same lesson. That brief moment of self doubt and feeling sorry for myself was blown away by the actions of my son on the basketball court. He will play in the finals, and it doesn't matter if he wins or loses. At this moment, we both won.
4.What did the author estimate his son's team would be like at first
A.The team would lose at the home court.
B.The team would finally win at the away court.
C.The team would win the championship.
D.The team would lose at the away court.

C
Whether we are young or old, we all have a dream we would love to achieve. The issue is that most of us have no idea where to begin to turn a great idea into fact, or that we choose to abandon our dreams when the going gets tough. If this is you, then self help guide Dream and Achieve:Discover and Express Your Passion in Your Lifetime by Kola Olutimehin should be at the top of your reading list.
Kola, who fittingly describes himself as a “Dream Driver”, has helped thousands of people achieve through his coaching and public speaking, and he has distilled (提炼) all his wisdom and tried and tested methods into this book.
At the beginning of the book, Kola defines what we mean by a “dream”, stating that a dream is a long cherished vision of what you want to make your inheritance and your contribution to the world. That doesn't mean that this dream, whatever it may be, is already fully formed in your mind.It may be fuzzy (模糊的);it may just be a feeling that you were born to attain something you don't currently possess.
What I love in this section of the book is how Kola, who has built his own business empire with blood, sweat and tears, debunks (驳斥) the common myths people associate with becoming a success, such as the need to make decisions with fully detailed plans.
He therefore urges readers, when faced with a decision, to consider the four “ds”.These are Desire — questioning what you truly want and why you want it; acting on your Decision, which is an active step; Determination, chiefly having the staying power not to backtrack; and Discipline, which means you must continue to act upon your decision to help make your dreams a reality.
In conclusion, author Kola Olutimehin has captured the essence of success and set it down in print, and Dream and Achieve is the one book you need to find your life's purpose, and achieve it.
8.What can readers get from the book by Kola
A.A guide to realize their dreams.
B.Some skills about public speaking.
C.A way to become a rich businessman.
D.Some advice on wise reading choices.
9.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A.The definition of a dream.
B.The importance of a dream.
C.The power of a dream.
D.The form of a dream.
10.What does Kola suggest people do when making decisions
A.Make fully detailed plans.
B.Get rid of your desires.
C.Stay optimistic and positive.
D.Think about things you really want.
11.What is the type of the text
A.A news report. B.A short story.
C.A book review. D.A research article.
D
It's been said that life turns on small things.Sometimes it's hard to see how small choices can change your life. But when put together over time, the little things can make the biggest difference.
The theme of Success for Teens is “Little Things Matter”.The book helps teens identify small, positive choices they can make in their lives to help them reach their goals.Lots of teens don't realize how the little choices in their lives can have lasting effects.Often they focus on the bigger events, such as a major exam, the big game or competition, or choosing a college. The little things, however, can go unnoticed unless your teen understands how important they can be.
The little things that lead to success are mostly easy to do.Help your teen identify a few areas in everyday life where he or she can make small, positive choices. It might be as simple as getting up on time, prioritizing (按重要性排列) their schoolwork, putting in an extra 10 minutes of practice or using some spare time to help someone else.
Nineteen year old Kyle Freas used to be on his school baseball team and play every day after school. When the season was over, he had an empty three hours a day, so he started spending one third of such extra time daily, looking for ways to help other kids.Over the last few years, his project has raised thousands of dollars to help abused, homeless and sick children.Kyle spent just a little time each day doing something that ended up benefiting a lot of kids. The important thing to understand is that Kyle made the small and positive decisions necessary for success.
Make sure your child understands that even though the results of the positive choices may not be seen right away, they are building on each other and taking him or her on a path that will lead to success.
12.We can learn from paragraph 2 that ________.
A.dealing with big events is the most important in one's life

Sometimes things don't go as planned, but that doesn't mean they can't still be wonderful in their own way.My parents and I had spent forever researching summer camps online. Finally, we picked out one where I could design games, animate (制作动画) characters, and learn other cool coding (编程) stuff.
My mom said, “I like the idea of you exercising that clever brain of yours. But I also want you to get plenty of fresh air.” “Campers can choose to hike or swim every afternoon!” I said, as I clicked on the registration form.
My dad filled out the form, and weeks later, my parents dropped me off for what I thought would be a week of nonstop computer coding fun.
I arrived at the check in table at the same time as a camper of my age named Halley, who was wearing an adorable sunhat.Halley greeted, “We are in the same group — number 7.” Led by an advisor, we followed the green arrows to the campsite.
I surprisedly found that it was so cool and woodsy along the path.I exchanged ideas with Halley about what might come out of the camp.Halley excitedly mentioned the little animals he loved to observe and something about night sky watching.
“You gave me the best idea,” I said.“I'll base my characters on the animals you mentioned!” Halley laughed.“I might be missing something here.Who are these mysterious characters?”
“You know, the characters we'll be designing and animating on computers this week!” I said.“Uh, sorry.Still lost,” said Halley.“Why would we be doing computer stuff at Nature Camp?”
It was then that I realised some errors must have been made.I must have accidentally clicked on the wrong online form! We immediately raced back to the welcome table to see if I could switch over to Tech Camp, but of course it was completely full.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。
I forced a smile as we headed for our campsite.

第二节 参考范文:
I forced a smile as we headed for our campsite. As I stepped forward, I just felt so disappointed that I had to sit down.Seeing that, Halley sat next to me.For the next few minutes, regret immersed me as my treasured Tech Camp slipped away due to my inattention. Then Halley broke the silence, whispering kindly, “I guess it was the call of the wild.” I responded with a bitter smile. He presented the stuff I could enjoy from nature, suggesting we hike and experience it.“You can discover unexpected excitement.” he encouraged me.
“OK,I'll have a try,” I looked at Halley thankfully. We reached the campsite and started to explore the nature.Nature Camp turned out amazing! We turned over stones to be amazed by the creatures beneath and hiked through woods to be greeted by the mountains behind. My favorite time came when we slept out under the stars, talking about ancient Greek stories.Even though I didn't choose the program on purpose, Halley was right.Try not to stay stuck in the negative, for a whole bunch of amazingness really is just waiting to jump out and surprise you!
