1.So, ever since I discovered selfie apps that could remove my freckles, enlarge my eyes and even slim my jawline, I have become addicted.
2.I spend hours every day editing my selfies, posting them and eagerly checking my phone a hundred times for comments.
赏析:此处巧用动作链 editing my selfies, posting them 以及checking my phone,突出了作者对照片编辑软件的沉迷。
3.But I was surprised at how good I looked after the makeover!

1.“Me”.It's a small word with big meaning, and that meaning is as individual to each of us as the way we look.

2.It's true that inner beauty is very important, but external beauty shouldn't be completely overlooked.

“Don't judge a book by its cover,” the old saying goes.Unfortunately, as a teenager, that is often exactly what you do to yourself.Dark thoughts about your physical appearance can hang over you all the time like a rain cloud.Do I look fat in these jeans Do others think I am too short Is everyone laughing at my new hairstyle behind my back These thoughts can have a negative effect on people of any shape or size, both male and female, and .
Standards of beauty in the media can have a big influence on what you think of your physical appearance.Teens who try to copy the looks of their favourite stars are fighting a losing battle — these standards are simply impossible for most of the population to live up to.They will only end up feeling worse about themselves.
Your friends also influence the way you view your physical appearance. If you have friends who are , it can feel like you are living in their shadow. For children of the digital age, social media makes this problem even worse.Your friends may post a never ending series of photos online to show off their beautiful dresses or strong bodies, and it becomes easier for you to compare yourself to them. This has proved to have a negative effect on what you think of your physical appearance.
These external influences are always present, but there are certainly ways to deal with them.First of all, be careful not to follow popular beauty standards blindly. They are out of reach for 99% of us, so it is better to just forget about them.
Another tip is to remind yourself that you are unique.Keep in mind that your family and friends love you just the way you are.Talk about your feelings with someone you trust.Hearing how much they value you can help you feel comfortable in your own skin.Focusing on your strengths also helps you build your confidence.Everyone has their own talents — you may be good at painting or playing the piano, so take pride in things you do well instead of worrying about things you cannot change.
Finally, it is a good idea to try to direct your attention away from negative thoughts. To achieve this, you should do something you enjoy.Read a book you like, or take part in a social activity, like playing a ball game with your friends. These things can help you take your mind off matters that worry you and make you feel good about yourself.
You may often judge yourself by what is on the outside, not on the inside. However, like a book, your contents are much more important than your cover. If you can learn to see the good things about yourself — your individuality, your value to others, your achievements — you will soon begin to love yourself just the way you are.

A
I have learned Latin dance since childhood. However, into adolescence, conflicts brought by Latin dance overwhelmed me.The fair skin and slim bodies of mainstream beauty stand in contrast to what Latin dance pursues: power and wildness. As a blooming (妙龄的) girl, I long for beauty admired by all.But a girl like me with strong muscles stands out in the crowd.Disturbed feelings caused by unkind judgment piled up in my heart. It was so much that I chose to compromise.
Luckily, the match for the Chinese youth team in Vietnam shifted my attention, dragging me out of anxiety.Players from different countries gathered together to fight for the honours. And I was no exception.Even though I had exerted (尽力表现) myself, I was shocked to find that I didn't get the score I expected. The reason, obviously, lay in my diet. With my reduced intake of protein and carbohydrates, I visibly lost a lot of weight, but at the cost of a sense of power and speed in dance.
In between games, I saw a little girl from Europe take firm and powerful steps in the competition. There was an inward intensity (强度) and outward charm, which caused my attention. Her beauty came from her full muscles. The confidence in her eyes was unstoppable.Sure enough, she won the top prize.Full of admiration, I made her acquaintance and shared my dilemma.I can't recall the conversation, but I do remember the confidence that inspired me and some of her words:“Just be yourself.”
Looking back, I'm still the dancing girl, but my heart has grown lighter.Something within me is dancing.

I think adults are affected by media, songs and the Internet, and that is hard enough. After reading all of the magazines and looking at the models, my friends and I agree that our least favourite day of the year is when we wear swimsuits! It affects your whole mood and self-image for the day.Think about how hard it is for young girls if they believe “how hot you look” is how valuable you are.
Here are some ways parents can be proactive in encouraging a healthy self-image in their children.
First, teach what real value is.I think kids sometimes are confused about values. How valuable you are is not measured by how pretty you are on the outside and success is not measured by how famous you are.We were watching the Oscars and my 6-year-old son said “She is so pretty” and then quickly looked at me and said “You are prettier, Mom.” And I said, “It's okay. There are many people prettier than me on the outside.I know that's not why you love me.” It is important to teach children this from an early age.
Second, tell your kids about “the grass is always greener” syndrome. It is very easy for all of us to see the glamour (魅力), whether it is in a celebrity or the most popular girl in the school.Do not judge famous people. They might have problems that are different from the ones your child has or the same struggles, like wanting acceptance from peers.
At last, use your mouth.Don't be afraid to have conversations with your child about how they're feeling about ads, songs, etc.Boys too! You are the parent! Kids of all ages want and need boundaries whether they admit it or not.Take a stand and have confidence enough not to be followers and not to purchase clothing, music, or magazines that you don't believe send the right message to your children!
√
5.What does the underlined word “It” in paragraph 1 refer to
A.Singing with friends.
B.Learning swimming skills.
C.Showing imperfect figures.
D.Reading fashion magazines.
由画线词上文的“After reading all of the magazines and looking at the models ...when we wear swimsuits!”
√
6.The author's son said “You are prettier, Mom.” probably .
A.to praise his mother
B.to comfort his mother
C.because he didn't like stars
D.because he really thought so
由画线句上文的“We were watching the Oscars and my 6-year-old son said ‘She is so pretty’ and then quickly looked at me and said”及画线句下文作者的话“It's okay. There are many people prettier than me on the outside.”
√
7.What syndrome is mentioned in paragraph 4
A.Lots of people like judging others.
B.Kids want to be popular in school.
C.People tend to like celebrities.
D.People always think others' life is better.
由第四段中的“‘the grass is always greener’ syndrome”及“It is very easy for all of us to see the glamour ...”
√
8.In the last paragraph, the author advises parents to .
A.set limits for their kids
B.make friends with their kids
C.teach their kids how to be confident
D.encourage their kids to be themselves
由最后一段中的“You are the parent! Kids of all ages want and need boundaries whether they admit it or not.”
Are you happy with your appearance Some teenagers are not.“Almost all the girls with single-fold eyelids (单眼皮) in our class have had double eyelid operations,”Zeng, a Senior 2 student from Chengdu, told the Xinhua News Agency.Zeng had the same surgery done this summer. 9
From popular photo-editing apps to plastic surgery (整容), it seems that large eyes, pale skin and a skinny body are the only standard for beauty these days. But can following this standard really make us feel good about ourselves
10 According to Huxiu News, over six in ten girls choose not to take part in certain daily activities, such as attending school, because they feel bad about their looks. As many as 31 percent of girls avoid speaking up in class because they worry that others will notice their looks.
Boys don't usually talk about body image problems as much as girls, but that doesn't mean they don't have them. 11 Parents and doctors may overlook them, even if they notice such problems in girls.
“Many teenagers are upset about their appearance because they believe in unrealistic standards of beauty,” experts say.Perfect faces and bodies are everywhere in advertising, TV shows and social media. 12
However, trying to live up to strict standards can make us feel anxious. What troubles us is not just our “imperfect” looks, but the fact that we criticize ourselves so harshly.
13 Plus-size (大码的) models are being featured in some fashion shows. All of us should be just as confident as they are.
A.All the girls worry about their looks.
B.Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
C.Image problems are common in the world.
D.Body image anxiety is common among girls.
E.Boys can struggle with body anxiety as well.
F.She and many of her classmates believe bigger eyes look more beautiful.
G.Seeing all these things can make anyone believe that they're too fat or too short.

I think adults are affected by media, songs and the Internet, and that is hard enough. After reading all of the magazines and looking at the models, my friends and I agree that our least favourite day of the year is when we wear swimsuits! It affects your whole mood and self image for the day.Think about how hard it is for young girls if they believe “how hot you look” is how valuable you are.
Here are some ways parents can be proactive in encouraging a healthy self image in their children.
First, teach what real value is.I think kids sometimes are confused about values. How valuable you are is not measured by how pretty you are on the outside and success is not measured by how famous you are.We were watching the Oscars and my 6 year old son said “She is so pretty” and then quickly looked at me and said “You_are_prettier,_Mom.” And I said, “It's okay.
