W:Sorry, Jim.I won't be able to make it to the dinner tomorrow night.I'll be busy volunteering at the library during that time.
M:That's interesting, Carol. Most people I know volunteer by collecting garbage or something. What do you do at the library when you volunteer Are they short on employees who put away books
W:Nothing like that.①I just read the children's books and act out some of the stories for them. It's very fun and it doesn't take long, maybe one or two hours.
M:How often do you do that
W:②I do it on Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week. You should come to help me with it one time.
M:That sounds like fun.Can I pick the stories I want to read ③I hate to try and act out a story I never read.
W:You can read any book as long as it's on the library's list.
(Text 2)
W:I hate lies.
M:Me, too.But I can accept white lies.Sometimes we want to be polite and demonstrate social manners. Therefore, white lies are for beneficial purposes.Being totally honest in some cases would be offensive.
W:I'm sorry.I can't agree with you. There are no white lies that can do no harm.
M:Hmm ...There are some common white lies in daily life. For instance, “I'm almost finished.” I'll say that to my boss when my job hasn't been finished.“It isn't that expensive.” That's what I say when I send gifts to my parents.“I'm almost there.” When I arrive at the dating place and my friend hasn't arrived yet, I would say so.Do you think I'm a bad guy for telling these lies
W:Definitely not.I've known you since high school.Of course I know who you are.
(Text 3)
W:Plastic surgery is very popular now.I feel it's great because it helps people feel better about themselves.
M:I'm afraid I don't agree. It makes people pay more attention to their appearance.
W:To be honest, there's nothing wrong with that if it builds confidence and changes people's lives. But it's not good if someone gets addicted to it looking for perfection that's impossible.
M:Well, I oppose the idea of low confidence as a good reason for plastic surgery — they can change to a healthier lifestyle.I'd support it only if there were very strict rules about who can have it.
W:I think it's good in any situation when it helps those who need it.What about those born with medical problems
M:As I said, I'd support those who need it for medical reasons because it's important for their health, but I'm against unnecessary plastic surgery.People are risking their lives every time they go under the knife!

“Selfie” has gained in popularity across the globe.
2.Can you say something about the phenomenon of the popularity of selfie according to your experience?(The answer may vary.)
Personally, selfie is a popular way of showing ourselves, through which some teenagers may gain more confidence and have a chance to make friends. However, when obsessed too much with self-images, teenagers may form a wrong viewpoint that recognition and comments from others are more important than life experiences. Therefore, only when we hold the right opinion that selfie is a way of entertainment rather than a part of daily life can we actually give full play to its advantage.

I was thirteen when I was first called fat.Friends and neighbours would make jokes on my big size.As I entered my late teens, I had completely lost confidence in my body and, subsequently, in myself.Having failed to live up to conventional beauty standards, I was convinced that if I wanted to be loved, I needed to offer more.
I entered adulthood thinking I wasn't “enough” — an idea that was seeded not only by the fact that “skinny” is celebrated, but also by the language associated with accounts of losing weight — self-improvement, discipline — all virtues.Being fat quickly categorizes you as lazy and undisciplined.Consumed by thoughts of the way my body looked, I didn't notice the other ways my body needed attention.Actually I developed a rare disease and later I had two surgeries.
I was always made to feel that my weight was the root of a lot of problems in my life; I have learnt this is not true. After a lot of self-reflection and some professional help, I realized I never learnt to like myself. While two decades of self-hatred cannot be undone overnight, I have taken first steps toward acceptance.
I am now much lighter than before, in body and mind. There are days I find voices on social media saying I am too fat to be loved or to be worthy, but I am learning not to focus on that thought for long.As long as I like myself, just the way I am, opinions at the end of the day are just water off a duck's back.
Questions:
1.Why did the author think she should do anything to please everyone around
She was greatly influenced by others' opinions.
2.Why did the author think she wasn't “enough”?
She was labelled as lazy and undisciplined for her weight.
3.What caused the author to make a change
A troublesome illness.
4.What changes did the author make
She began to learn to like herself and accept herself.
5.What do you learn from the story
Learn to see the good things about ourselves and love ourselves just the way we are.Just as one celebrity said, “Beauty is being the best possible version of yourself on the inside and out.”

Hi Zhou Ling,
How are you Do you still go to the gym every day I used to go to the gym three times a week, but I don't work out any more.I know another way to stay slim.Looking good is important to women, isn't it
Most young women want a slim figure these days, especially here in Canada.I'm trying to lose weight because I'm so ashamed of my body.Since I'm preparing to act in a new TV show, I'm taking weight-loss pills called Fat-Less,which are quite popular among young women here.I hope to lose at least 10 kilograms.I take two pills a day and don't need to exercise.
What do you think of this new way to stay slim I hope to hear from you soon.
Love,
Amy

1.Please give Amy some advice.
I'm regret to hear you take weight-loss pills. We shouldn't be embarrassed about our weight.I think you look great, and that you're a wonderful person.I know that the pressure to stay slim is a problem. However, nothing is more important than health.
2.What's your opinion about losing weight
I think one healthy way of losing weight is to keep a balanced diet. That is to say, we should not have too much fat or snacks, but more vegetables and fruit. To do exercise or play some sports is also an effective way to lose weight — walking and riding a bicycle are the easiest and cheapest ways to exercise.1 / 3
