W:Where exactly did you go in the Philippines
M:I was in Davao City.①The volunteer organization has an office and some student dorms there.
W:Can you talk about the organization
M:Sure. The organization is called the Student Volunteer Organization. They organize trips for university students to go abroad and do volunteer work — you know, doing things that help the country and the people.Take one project for example. We planted trees in an area of the island where a lot of trees had been cut down years ago. ②We got local elementary school students to help us because ③the goal of the project was to teach young people about the environment.
W:That's great. So you decided to go because the environment is important to you
M:Yes, I think it's everyone's responsibility to help protect the environment.
(Text 2)
W:I had a special experience last night. My car engine suddenly stopped in the middle of a deserted road. When I got out of my car to check the engine, I accidentally locked myself out of my car! I was very nervous and scared, given that the road was so dark and quiet. The only thing I could do was sit by the road and hope someone would come by and help me.Luckily, a man drove by after about 20 minutes.
He stopped and asked if he could lend a hand.He let me use his cell phone to call the rescue service. He even waited with me, keeping me company until the truck for rescue service arrived. What a wonderful, helpful man! Before he left, I offered to pay him for helping me, but he refused. He said it was his pleasure to help out a lady in trouble. All I could do was thank him over and over again. If it had not been for him, I could have been in real trouble.I asked him for his number and promised to meet him and have dinner sometime.I got very lucky that night, thanks to the stranger.
(Text 3)
W:Brenton, did you guys go to the beach last weekend
M:Yes.Actually, we go to the beach every Saturday afternoon — to do beach cleanups.
W:When did you start doing that
M:Last August. My friend Linda went through Heal the Bay's Speakers Bureau training last April and said it was an amazing experience. With her recommendation, I joined the Adopt-A-Beach program and started doing beach cleanups. Then my parents joined me.We enjoy hearing from others that they appreciate our efforts while we're doing cleanups.
W:Very meaningful.Do you think there're any appropriate programs for me
M:Of course. You adore animals, so the Aquarium will be a good choice for you.Besides, there's also Beach Captains and Saturday Warriors. And the people at Heal the Bay are enthusiastic and kind-hearted.They do incredible work and take collective action to solve issues that affect every single one of us.

1.What is the purpose of the pictures
The pictures aim to reveal that we tend to have various interpretations of the meaning of life during different stages of life.
2.Which stage of life do you like most Why
I like the stage of being a young adult most.As a young adult, I have to be responsible for not only myself but also the ones I love.I expect to become a smart and responsible person who can take good care of everything, even though it can be hard sometimes. However, hardship is important for a person to truly grow and improve. After all, no pain, no gain.
3.What do you think life is about
I think life is about setting a goal and trying my best to achieve it.It can be a study goal, a career goal or a fitness goal.Setting goals helps me find out what I truly want to achieve in my life.My goals lay a path for me to follow in my life, and when I succeed, I can feel happy and fulfilled.

When John walked into the dining room in the morning, his wife Jenny and his two children, Kevin and Sophie, were sitting at the table. The atmosphere was frosty as John sat down.Sophie, who was only five years old, gave her father a weak smile.Kevin, his teenage son,
didn't look up from his food.Jenny looked at him silently with her arms folded across her chest.“OK,” John began, “I'm sorry, I know I let everyone down yesterday.” Kevin looked accusingly at his father.“You missed my music performance at school ...again! You've never come to see me do anything,” he said angrily.Jenny placed a hand on John's shoulder.“That's true! John, you always miss family activities. The last time we had a family outing was five months ago! And I'm exhausted from all the housework.”
As he drank his coffee, John reflected on his life.He had so much to be thankful for: a successful business, a harmonious family and a lovely home.In fact, he had everything he had ever wanted, but he knew something was wrong. He had always believed that with hard work, he could make his family happy. But he realized he was failing. He was spending more time at work and less time at home.He was working in the office until late in the evening and even during weekends. When at home, he was talking on the phone with his clients
or sitting in front of the computer reading or writing emails. He was neglecting his family. He hadn't taken his wife to a nice restaurant for months.Kevin was passionate about music, but John couldn't remember the last time he saw Kevin perform at a school concert.Sophie was growing up fast and John had even missed her last birthday party.John realized he had become an absent husband and an absent father.
Question 1:How would John redefine happiness and what changes might he make
Later that day, John returned to work, determined to make some changes. He knew that it was time to reassess his life, make his family his number one priority, and be a more caring husband and father. He informed his staff and clients that from now on, he would be working office hours only.He also promised himself that he would attend all activities involving his children and share household tasks with his wife.Indeed, this coming weekend, after helping Jenny with the shopping, he would take his family to the local park for a day out.
Question 2:How would his life improve in the end
Soon, John felt a big improvement in his life and work.By making changes, he found the right work-life balance to be both effective at work and happy at home.Amazingly, by reducing the amount of time spent on work, John had become much more enthusiastic about his job and more focused on what needed to be done.
The result was improved work efficiency and increased productivity. On the other hand, as John spent more time at home, the family had grown closer together. His wife was less tired than before, his relationship with Kevin was improving, and he was a proud father at Sophie's birthday party! To his satisfaction, John had finally discovered the secret to happiness.3 / 3
