Once there was a boy with a bad temper. His dad told him to hammer a nail into the fence every time he lost his temper. The boy learnt to control his temper because it was easier than hammering the nails into the fence. Then his dad asked him to pull one nail out every time he was able to hold his temper. When the boy pulled out all the nails, his dad showed him the holes in the fence, telling him his anger had left “scars” that would never heal, like the holes in the fence.
According to the story, it is important to learn how to control our temper so that we do not do or say anything that will hurt other people. So how can we control our temper First, we can talk to someone we trust about how we feel. This is a good way of letting our anger out without hurting others.Second, we can go outdoors and play team sports with our friends, because physical exercise provides an effective way to calm down.
Third, we can shift our attention to other things such as reading a book or watching a film.Focusing on something else helps us to forget our anger.
If we keep calm and stay optimistic, we can take control over our temper, which will benefit us throughout life.

A woodcutter carried his axe (斧子) and set out to work.On his first day, he cut down 18 trees and was praised by his boss. The next day, he worked harder, but could only cut down 15 trees. On the third day, he tried even harder, but only cut down 10 trees.
Day after day, he was cutting down fewer and fewer trees. He felt quite confused and turned to an old man.
“Do you often sharpen your axe?” the old man asked.
“I have no time to sharpen it.I have been very busy cutting down trees,” the woodcutter replied.
“Sharpen it at once,” the old man said.
Then the woodcutter followed the old man's advice and sharpened his axe.To his surprise, he found he could cut down trees much faster and with less effort than before.
A woodcutter turned to an old man when he couldn't cut down as many trees as he used to, although he tried even harder.Knowing the woodcutter had not sharpened his axe for a long time, the old man advised him to sharpen it at once. The woodcutter did what he was told and was amazed at how much easier his work became.

A pound is a pound
There was once a farmer who, each week, sold a pound of butter to a baker. After several weeks of buying a pound of butter from the farmer, the baker decided to weigh the butter that he was receiving to ensure it was indeed a full pound. When the baker weighed it, he found that the butter was under a pound, which made him angry.
He felt he was being cheated and decided to take the farmer to court. When in court, the judge asked the farmer how he was weighing the butter. The farmer said, “I am poor. I do not own an exact measuring tool. However, I do have a scale (天平).” The judge then asked if the farmer used the scale to measure the butter. The farmer said, “I have been buying a one-pound loaf of bread from the baker since long before he began buying butter from me.
Whenever the baker brings bread for me, I put it on the scale and then measure out butter of the exact same weight to give him in return. So, if the baker is not getting a pound of butter, he is also not giving me a pound of bread as he promised.”
Recently, I read a story named A pound is a pound, which impressed me deeply.
The story is about a farmer and a baker. The baker bought a pound of butter from the farmer each week. One day he weighed the butter and found it was under a pound. As a result, he took the farmer to court. It turned out every time the farmer got a loaf of bread weighing less than a pound from the baker, he used his scale to measure the same amount of butter for the baker.
The story has taught me a valuable lesson: You get what you give; if you try to cheat others, you will be cheated in return.
Alex was a friendly boy, but he had a bad temper and often found it challenging to control his anger. Whenever something didn't go his way or if he felt upset, a fiery anger would build up inside him like an angry monster.
One sunny afternoon, Alex went to the playground with his friends, Sarah and Ben. They were excited to play on the swings, slide, and monkey bars. As they started playing, Alex's turn on the swing was interrupted by another child who cut in line. Alex felt his anger rising inside him, and without thinking, he shouted at the child very angrily, demanding his turn back. Sarah and Ben looked at Alex with surprise, scare and depression. They didn't like it that their friend lost his temper like a monster and yelled. They stopped playing together.
Alex's anger not only ruined his own mood but also spoiled the fun for his friends and the other children at the playground. Feeling ashamed and realizing the consequences of his actions, Alex slumped (跌坐) down on a nearby bench. He saw his friends playing happily without him, and he felt upset at losing control.
Alex's memories flooded back when his friends and family were often taken aback by his outbursts. When his best friend, Emily, wanted to play a game he didn't like, he would shout and throw a tantrum (发脾气), refusing to play with her. When his little sister accidentally knocked over his tower of blocks, he would explode in a fit of rage, yelling and stamping his feet.
He had lost a lot of fiends and hurt his family because of his anger. Now he might lose these friends too. He realized that his mean words constantly hurt the people he cared about. He didn't want to be like a monster anymore, so he decided to find a better way to handle his anger.
That evening, Alex told Grandma about what had happened. Grandma listened attentively, her wise eyes filled with understanding. She gently placed her hand on Alex's shoulder and said, “My dear Alex, anger is a normal emotion, but it's important to learn to manage anger and express feelings without hurting others.” Grandma taught Alex a simple technique — take slow, deep breaths whenever he felt the anger welling up inside him. She also encouraged him to take a moment to reflect on his feelings and put himself in others' shoes before reacting impulsively.
Alex made up his mind to change. The next day, Alex encountered many situations that would typically trigger his anger at school. But he chose a different approach. His newfound ability to manage his anger made a noticeable difference. His friends noticed the positive change in him and began inviting him to join activities. With each passing day, Alex's relationships with his family and friends grew stronger. Looking back, Alex felt it was wise to learn to manage his anger with the help of his grandma and create harmonious interpersonal relationship.

根据本段内容,尤其是“Hard times are rubbish, but they make you what you are.”
4.选F 根据空后的“or eventually cut ties with them entirely”可知,空处也应表达与充满负能量的人保持距离之意,故F项衔接下文,符合语境。
5.选G 根据本段小标题“Create joy in your life”可知,要去做那些使自己快乐的事。 6 / 6

Recently, I read a story named A pound is a pound, which impressed me deeply.
The story is about a farmer and a baker. The baker bought a pound of butter from the farmer each week. One day he weighed the butter and found it was under a pound. As a result, he took the farmer to court. It turned out every time the farmer got a loaf of bread weighing less than a pound from the baker, he used his scale to measure the same amount of butter for the baker.
The story has taught me a valuable lesson: You get what you give; if you try to cheat others, you will be cheated in return.
