For as long as I can remember, my body and I have shared a relationship of discontent.Growing up, I was skinnier than the other kids and at five I was told I wasn't attractive and that I must put on some weight. But no matter how much I ate, I stayed thin for years until adolescence. Then I started putting on weight almost immediately.I remember feeling happy as I began to fill out. However, my joy didn't last long.
I was thirteen when I was first called fat.Friends and neighbours would make jokes on my big size.As I entered my late teens, I had completely lost confidence in my body and, subsequently, in myself.Having failed to live up to conventional beauty standards, I was convinced that if I wanted to be loved, I needed to offer more, doing anything to please everyone around.
I entered adulthood thinking I wasn't “enough” — an idea that was seeded not only by the fact that “skinny” is celebrated, but also by the language associated with accounts of losing weight — self improvement, discipline — all virtues.Being fat quickly categorizes you as lazy and undisciplined.Consumed by thoughts of the way my body looked, I didn't notice the other ways my body needed attention.I failed to realize, for example, that my period was much heavier and more painful than ever before.Actually I developed a rare disease and later I had two surgeries.
I was always made to feel that my weight was the root of a lot of problems in my life; I have learnt this is not true. After a lot of self reflection and some professional help, I realized I never learnt to like myself. While two decades of self hatred cannot be undone overnight, I have taken first steps to acceptance.
I am now much lighter than before, in body and mind. There are days I find voices on social media saying I am too fat to be loved or to be worthy, but I am learning not to focus on that thought for long.As long as I like myself, just the way I am, opinions at the end of the day are just water off a duck's back.
4.What can we learn about the author from the first two paragraphs
A.She could change her weight at will.
B.She had different beauty standards from others.
C.She tried to love others to build her confidence.
D.She was greatly influenced by others' opinions.
5.Why did the author think she wasn't “enough”?
A.She was poorly disciplined.
B.She failed to celebrate “skinny”.
C.She was labelled as lazy for her weight.
D.She put on more weight after entering adulthood.
6.What caused the author to make a change
A.Her lighter body.
B.A troublesome illness.
C.Popular beauty standards.
D.Others' critical comments.
7.What is the best title for the text
A.Beauty Matters B.Opinions Vary
C.Worth Your Weight D.Beyond Your Limits
C
The last thing Caitlin Hipp would have expected as she prepared to turn 28 years old was to be living at home with her parents. But through working as a part time skating instructor and restaurant server, she isn't able to earn enough to live anywhere other than home.
To some degree, multigenerational households have always been a part of American life. However, the number of young adults who have been moving back in with their parents — or never leaving home in the first place — has been growing steadily.
UBS Financial Services released a report that even suggests one reason for the growing number of young adults still living at home could be that their family doesn't want them to leave.
The report shows that 74 percent of millennials (千禧一代) get some kinds of financial support from their parents after college. It finds that millennials have redefined the ties that connect parents and children.Millennials see their parents as peers, friends and instructors.Nearly three quarters talked with their parents more than once a week during college. In return, their parents happily provide financial support well into adulthood, helping fund everything for them.
Stuart Hoffman, chief economist for the PNC Financial Group in the US, said the number of young adults striking out on their own fell during the Great Recession.Although job growth for millennials since 2014 has improved, that doesn't necessarily mean that millennials are starting to fly the nest.He said, “They may like living at home and being able to save money.”
“There's no doubt that it has held back household formation and purchases of things people spend money on related to household formation and perhaps related to child raising,” Hoffman explained.“But they are probably traveling more and eating out more if they don't have a house expense or marriage.I don't know if it represents a change in moral values. But it's much more common for adult children to live in their parents' homes because it's becoming part of the culture.”
8.What can be learned about Caitlin Hipp
A.She is in her thirties.
B.She is ambitious for her career.
C.She can barely make ends meet.
D.She prefers living with her parents.
9.What's the reason for young adults' living at home according to UBS Financial Services
A.The lack of job opportunity.
B.Their parents' need for them.
C.The high pressure from modern life.
D.Their parents' overprotection of them.
10.What does Hoffman think of young adults' living at home
A.It will never go out of fashion.
B.It may allow of more travel chances.
C.It results from the change in moral values.
D.It goes against America's cultural development.
11.What is the author's purpose of writing this passage
A.To introduce different types of living arrangements.
B.To stress the importance of financial independence.
C.To inform people of a social phenomenon in the US.
D.To explain why Chinese young adults still live at home.
D
As you grow rapidly through your teenage years, you will experience a lot of changes. The changes may seem difficult and they may seem to happen quickly.Don't panic! You will deal successfully with them! You are a young adult now!
With more responsibility, you will find more freedom to make your own choices. This is a time to be well informed about your choices so that you can make healthy balanced decisions that will help shape your future. You may already know your career path or you may have no idea at all what you want to do.Both situations are fine! Work hard and the right opportunity will present itself to you.
Young adulthood means greater freedom and more choices. You will probably want to be independent. But try not to shut your family out of your life. You should learn to think of others even though you are old enough to look after yourself.Your family have been with you since you came into this world.
It is also perfectly natural in this time for you to spend more time with your friends than your family.Choose your friends wisely.A true friend will stand by you no matter what happens. This period is part of the life cycle. There are some people who will be with you throughout life's journey and there will be some people with whom you part and go separate ways.Leaving school can be hard. The reality is that you may not ever see all of your classmates again.
You are a young adult. It is your life.No one can live it for you.The choices that you make from now on will be your choices. So making the right choices will be important to you.Life is for living.Enjoy your life wisely!

Jack was a bright and curious child, always eager to learn new things and explore the mysterious world about science. However, he often found himself in disagreement with his mother. His mother was always busy with her work and she didn't have enough time to learn about his interests and passions.
One day, Jack came home from school feeling particularly excited. He just found a sci fi book about an adventure on the moon.Upon arriving at home, he couldn't tear himself away from the book.He read and read until it was dark.Having finished reading it, he couldn't wait to share it with his mother, only to be told that he should focus on more practical subjects like math and history, which would help him get into a good college and have a successful career.
Jack couldn't understand why his mother didn't see the value in what he was doing. He felt that she was holding him back and not allowing him to pursue his true interests.“Why can't you see how important this is to me?” Jack asked his mother angrily.“I'm never going to be happy if I have to spend my life doing things that I show no interest in just because they are practical or make you proud.”
The once peaceful home was filled with tension and anger. His mother's voice grew louder as she shouted, “You can't just do whatever you want! You should be responsible for your future!” Jack, fueled by his own frustration, shot back, “I am tired of you always telling me what to do! I am not a child anymore! You only care about your own feeling! You never thought about my feeling!” They were so caught up in their own anger and hurt that they failed to see how their words and actions were affecting each other.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。
Jack rushed into his bedroom and locked the door heavily.

When Jack heard his mother's words, regretful tears rolled down his face.

Jack rushed into his bedroom and locked the door heavily. He lay on the bed, hiding himself in the quilt. What he really wanted to do was to cut himself off from the whole world, especially from his mother. He couldn't figure out why his mother didn't understand him and why she forced him to do something he didn't like.Slowly, he fell asleep while thinking.Suddenly he was awakened, hearing his mother's voice outside the door, which was filled with apologies and warmth. His mother promised him that she would respect his interests in the future.
When Jack heard his mother's words, regretful tears rolled down his face. He realized that everything his mother did was totally for the sake of his future and what he said hurt his mother's heart hard.It occurred to him that he had never showed his gratitude to his mother. He couldn't wait to open the door and said thank you to his mother, who was standing in the doorway. He also promised his mother that he would study hard in practical subjects. Finally, misunderstanding cleared, they hugged each other tightly with a joyful smile.
