I was a young newspaper reporter, and I wanted to succeed. My first job was in Latin America. It was almost my last job.
I had not planned to stay in the village of Zacate, but it had been raining hard for a whole day. So I had to stay there.
I found people there full of fear. This village was at the foot of a volcano. It was becoming more active. Men, women and children came to the square. A few helped each other and went out of town to get as far away from the volcano as possible, with large and full packs in their hands. Suddenly, I felt a strong earthquake. The villagers in the square ran away as soon as they felt the earthquake.
Suddenly, I saw black smoke rolling down the side of the mountain towards the village. Trees and grass burned up in a second. The volcano eruption(喷发) was coming so fast that in less than a minute the roads to the village were cut off. All I could do was watch and wait. Suddenly, my landlord(房东) cried out, “Look!” He pointed to a small hill, which was near to us. The lava(岩浆) was not coming over it but flowing on each side of the village, leaving the village centre undamaged. For a time, at least, we were safe, unless the lava grew much bigger.
My landlord gave me a wet blanket to cover myself to avoid the heat and we poured water over our heads to cool ourselves. We could hardly breathe because of the heat and the smoke of the burning houses. Thanks to my landlord, I survived the volcano.
24.Why did the writer stay in the village of Zacate
A.Because of his busy job.
B.Because of the bad weather.
C.Because of an accident.
D.Because of an adventure.

Science fiction writers create an imaginary world. The way things work in your imaginary world will be based on actual science. So it's important for you to be familiar with the scientific principles and inventions that are related to your creation. For example, if you're writing about humans living on a planet with zero gravity, then you need to know the effects of zero gravity on the human body.
Then you have to figure out the exact rules of your imaginary world. And you have to follow them. If humans have evolved to breathe underwater in Chapter 1, your character can't drown in a swimming pool in Chapter 3. If your robots write poetry but not fiction, then you can't throw a novelist robot into Chapter 8. The issue here is maintaining your readers' trust. That means the reader is willing to pretend along with you. If you start out to write an ordinary detective novel and then throw in someone breathing underwater in the 6th chapter, your readers' reaction might be, “What the hell!” The imaginative spell is broken. You've pulled the readers out of their imagination. The same thing happens if you change the rules halfway.
Part of your preparation work for the novel is to map out its world for yourself in great detail. Decide: the history of the world, the geography, what possibilities it offers, how everything works in the new reality, and how all of these factors affect the way your characters think, feel, and react to things. You don't have to tell your readers all the rules in the first chapter. But you have to let your readers know enough to understand what's going on. This also allows you to work out logical problems and contradictions before you start writing.
When you are writing, remember to make it feel real. You are inviting readers to visit a new world. They will want to be able to see, hear, feel, smell, and even taste what it's like. Whether your novel is about a world without disease or an undiscovered planet, help your readers feel like they're actually there.
28.What's the relationship between actual science and science fiction
A.Science fiction promotes the development of actual science.
B.Science fiction often reflects the development of actual science.
C.Actual science provides basic principles for science fiction.
D.Actual science limits the imagination described in science fiction.
29.How is the second paragraph mainly developed
A.By making comparisons.
B.By analysing causes.
C.By following the time order.
D.By giving examples.
30.What can we know from the passage
A.Readers of science fiction actually pretend the writers' rules are true.
B.It is necessary to do some scientific experiments before writing science fiction.
C.It is more difficult to write science fiction than ordinary detective novels.
D.It is great to leave some contradictions in your science fiction.
31.What is the passage mainly about
A.How to do scientific research.
B.How to write science fiction.
C.What to expect from science fiction.
D.How to raise interest in science.

A Chinese space mining company has designed a robot that can catch waste material left behind by spacecraft in outer space with a big net.
The state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that the robot launched on the government's Long March 6 rocket along with several satellites. The robot will also investigate deep space to observe small objects in the universe. The 30-kilogram robot, called NEO-01,was developed by Origin Space. Founded in 2019 and based in the southern Chinese tech hub Shenzhen, Origin Space has been dedicated to exploring and using space resources, according to the company. The company says the robot will lead the way in future technology capable of mining on asteroids(小行星).
The world's first asteroid mining company, Planetary Resources, Inc was established in 2010. Since then, more than 12 businesses around the world have entered the industry, including 3D Systems of the United States and Japan's Astroscale. Astroscale's technology uses magnets(磁铁)to gather up space waste. But a report on the Origin Space website says NEO-01 will use a net to catch waste and then burn it. Thousands of satellites have been launched worldwide. As they are used for too long, many end up as waste and put other operating satellites at risk.
Su Meng is the founder of Origin Space. He said the company plans to launch many space telescopes and more spacecraft to begin the first for-profit mining of asteroids by 2045. Su added that NEO-01 will serve as a prototype(雏形) of future space mining robots, which can use rich mineral resources on asteroids to support the development of the space industry.
The Xinhua News Agency reported that China is increasing efforts to land a spacecraft on a near-Earth asteroid to collect material. China is also speeding up a plan to build a defense system against near-Earth asteroids. The country aims to follow Russia and the United States in becoming a major space power by 2030.

People always enjoy works that make them laugh out loud, cry and think, as Dickens' novels do. Many other novelists in the 19th century wrote entertaining works. 39 Dickens wrote about situations and emotions that still interest people today. 40 His works led to many important social changes.

“Do you forget to bring your homework to school ” my sixth-grade math teacher asked. I nodded my head and said in a low voice, “Yes, sir.” What a mistake I had made! I had completed my math homework. But before I left home and headed for school, I forgot to put it into my schoolbag.
“You will get a zero then,” my math teacher said. I was shocked. I had never received a zero in a math class before. But the school had rules, and the teacher had to let everyone follow them. I was immediately worried about my final math average, which was based on my homework and the tests. Would I get a C or even a D at the end of the term If so, what should I do
My next class was a PE class. As I walked down the hall with my classmates, all those feelings rushed out in hot tears. I wiped them away as quickly as I could. But when we entered the gym and sat down in our spots on the floor, it was clear to everyone around me that I had been crying.
My PE teacher, Ms. Brown, was an athletic teacher, often with a smile on her face. Her class was a good mix of calisthenics(健美操)and games that can give us all a good workout. And Ms. Brown was nice and compassionate(有同情心的). She loved her students and often came to help if the students were in trouble.
During that PE class, my mind was affected by the math homework and I was worried about my final math average. So I failed to devote my attention to Ms. Brown's direction. And clearly, I was sad. I guessed that Ms. Brown found there was something wrong with me. When it was near the end of the PE class, she walked to me.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
She sat down to comfort me.
I felt relaxed and decided to work harder at math.

第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
Dear Jim,
It's great to hear from you. I feel proud to know that you are interested in Chinese history.
As for my favorite figure in Chinese history, it must be Wei Yuan, a great thinker in the late Qing Dynasty. He, in his book, Haiguo Tuzhi(Maps and Records of the World), introduced modern technologies and ideas to China. That opened our eyes to the world. In fact, he inspires me to major in English in college, to be a bridge between China and the world.
Interested in knowing more I can find you some books.Just let me know.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
She sat down to comfort me. “Are you OK ” she asked. I told her about my trouble. Then Ms. Brown said to me, “We all make mistakes.” She told me what happened to her several days ago. I was surprised that she also made mistakes since I had thought she was perfect. She told me the world wouldn't end for a zero in a math class and encouraged me to study hard.
I felt relaxed and decided to work harder at math. In math classes, I paid more attention to the teacher's speeches. After school, I would do the math homework more carefully. And I left notes to remind me not to forget to bring my homework to school again. At the end of that term, based on my good daily performances and test scores, my final math average was an A.This experience taught me a lesson: as long as we learn from mistakes, we're making progress.
