Dear James,
How’s everything going I’ve been thinking about our research project during the holiday.
Considering the rapid development of AI, I propose we explore “The Impact of AI on Future Career
Choices.”
AI is reshaping various industries, and understanding its influence on career paths is significant for
us students. This topic will help us grasp job trends and prepare for our own futures. For the plan, we
can first survey high school students’ awareness of AI-related careers. Then, analyze data from online
resources and interview career advisors. Finally, we’ll summarize tips for making informed choices.
Your insights on technology are impressive! Which part would you prefer to take charge of
Looking forward to your reply!
Best regards,
Li Hua

One possible version:
At one point Frank looked at me with tears in his eyes as if recalling something. Hardly had the
words flowed from his trembling lips when I dropped my jaw. Father was genuinely the Santa Claus!
Recalling every letter of mine answered in time, I appreciated my dad’s dedication all these years,
my eyes filled with tears. Flakes still whirling, I seemingly spotted a sparkle of light casting on me,
melting the snow carpeting my heart. Frank went on with the stories, conveying his affection for the
past. But I was not that attentive. Memories of the past came flooding again. “Your father always
considered others’ pleasure as his own”. Frank’s remark hit me like a clap of thunder, reminding me
of the philosophy of pleasure passed down from my father.
Thinking of this philosophy of pleasure, I determined to be this year’s Santa Claus. Braving the
sharp wind, I grasped the key Frank gave me and headed for the mailboxes. With a soft click, they
opened. Dusty and wrinkled, the letters lay quietly, waiting to be answered. I gently took them out,
rushed home, and signed the replies with Santa’s name. When I brought every letter to every original
address, the owners’ eyebrows lifted high but then soothed as I explained patiently to them. Some of
them even remembered my father and offered me cookies. Spotting the understanding looks on their
faces, I felt a surge of warmth and pleasure. After waving farewell, I slowed my steps in the snow
and wandered along the familiar road, recalling the past golden days that would never fade away.

Text 10
M: The Spanish “siesta” is a short nap in the early afternoon, typically after lunch. “The
word ‘siesta’ comes from the Latin ‘sexta’, meaning the sixth hour after someone wakes up,”
explained Dr. Dylan Petkus, a sleep researcher with Optimal Circadian Health. A siesta has
been a traditional practice in many cultures for centuries, especially in Spain and Latin America.
“I’ve lived in Spain for five years and have fully embraced the tradition”, said Jenoa Matthes, a
travel expert. When Matthes first moved to Madrid, she was curious about this afternoon
nap that much of the country seemed to take daily. “Coming from the US, where stopping in
the middle of a workday to nap seemed unheard of, the idea of a siesta was quite foreign to
me,” she said.
“A nap, around 20 to 30 minutes, can improve our alertness and memory,” said Dr. Dylan
Petkus. It’s like hitting a refresh button. “But beware—you don’t have to nap too long. You
might experience sleep inertia, where you wake up feeling dizzy and lost,” he added. That means,
a quick nap can boost your brainpower for the rest of the day.
“An afternoon nap has many health benefits. These can include improvements in energy
and alertness, productivity as well as reductions in errors and risk of accidents,” said a sleep
researcher, Dr. Keith C. Summa.
