Louis Pasteur once said, “Chance favors the prepared mind.” That's the truth behind the following inventions—the scientists were prepared and were able to see the magic in a mistake.
Mauve
In 1856, William Perkin was trying to come up with an artificial medicine, but his experiments produced a thick mess. But the more Perkin looked at it, the more he saw a beautiful color in his mess. It turned out that he had made mauve, the first-ever synthetic dye (合成染料), which was far better than any natural dye: the color was brighter, clearer, and didn't fade or wash out.
Superglue
This super-sticky substance was discovered by accident—twice! Chemist Harry Coover had been attempting to make clear plastic gun sights, and in 1942 one method he tested produced an extremely quick bonding adhesive (黏合剂). It was useless for his gun sights, though, and he forgot about it until almost ten years later, when he came across it again while developing heat-resistant parts for airplanes. This time he recognized its potential, and the product was put on the market.
Plastic
In 1907, shellac (虫胶) was used in electronics. It was costly, so American chemist Leo Hendrik Baekeland tried to produce an alternative. Instead, his experiments produced a material that could take high temperatures. He later developed it into plastic, and it was soon used in the production of almost everything.
Teflon
Back in the 1930s, Young DuPont chemist Roy Plunkett was working to make a new kind of CFC for refrigeration. After storing the gas in certain containers, he opened one to discover that it had changed into a white powder that was extremely sticky and had a very high melting point. Three years later, the substance, which was named Teflon, was patented.
21.Which invention came out earliest
A.Mauve. B.Superglue.
C.Plastic. D.Teflon.
22.Who recognized the value of his original invention when developing airplane parts
A.William Perkin. B.Harry Coover.
C.Leo Hendrik Baekeland. D.Roy Plunkett.
23.What do the inventions have in common
A.They were made by accident.
B.They could take high temperatures.
C.They received no recognition at first.
D.They could be used in medical fields.

A Chinese girl, Tan Fanglin, overcame a world-class mathematics problem and was invited again to attend the World Laureates Forum when she was municating with many top scientists in the world, she became a rising star in this meeting of the world's sharpest minds.
Her discovery has won her many prizes in youth innovation competitions in China. However, Tan is not a “genius” in the traditional sense. Tan was born into a scholarly family. Her father was a professor of mathematics. Tan showed a high interest in mathematics when she was very young. She likes to find questions on her own. The more difficult the problem is, the more potential she will unlock. In this process, her father will only give proper guidance.
Tan took part in many research projects. So devoted to the projects, she once made serious mistakes during the exam at school. Instead of severely rebuking her, her parents let her find the problem by herself and achieve a better balance between textbook study and research. It was because of the respect and trust of her parents that Tan began to plan her study time scientifically and applied the learning methods summarized in the process of mathematics research to the classroom. With her hard work, she made great achievements in mathematics.
Attending this meeting enabled Tan to get more inspiration from the world's top scientists. She even got the opportunity to talk with Gero Miesenb ck, who is pioneering the field of optogenetics(光遗传学). Miesenb ck has encouraged her not to lose her passion and love for what she does and said accepting failure is important to researchers. He has stressed that we all know that even Thomas Edison went through hundreds of unsuccessful attempts before finally inventing the light bulb. Tan has met many difficulties in her research and often feels upset. The words have made her feel inspired.
24.What can we learn about Tan Fanglin from the article
A.She went to the meeting with her father.
B.She has a strong love for mathematics.
C.She never made mistakes in her school exams.
D.She was invited to attend the Forum for the first time.
25.What does the underlined word “rebuking” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Helping. B.Challenging.
C.Criticizing. D.Praising.
26.How did Tan's parents help her with her research
A.By correcting her mistakes.
B.By offering extra training for her research.
C.By stressing the importance of scientific research.
D.By respecting her and encouraging her in self-development.
27.Which statement does Gero Miesenb ck probably agree with
A.All roads lead to Rome.
B.Nothing is impossible.
C.Where there is a will, there is a way.
D.Failure is the mother of success.

Smart devices have apparently become an everyday part of our lives. A smart refrigerator can go above and beyond simply keeping our food cool.
A smart refrigerator is any refrigerator that's equipped with a Wi-Fi connection. It can share information about itself, be a real-time camera that lets users see what's inside while at the supermarket, or act as a digital command center for the home. Some other things smart fridges are able to do include raising or lowering the temperature at the sound of your voice or with your phone, or helping you monitor the contents of your fridge so you don't run into a milk shortage emergency.
Smart fridges can be particularly good at keeping food cool. It's easier to adjust the temperature if it is higher than it should be because the door is left slightly open. This can make a difference in your energy bills and the quality and lifespan(寿命) of your food.
Many of the smart fridge's features can also save you time when you're rushing to get ready in the morning. The people who will benefit most from a smart fridge are probably those who have children who might be using the fridge while parents are at work. It's another way you can keep an eye on what's going on at home when you're not there. However, prices do tend to run higher than traditional fridges.
If you already have a food organizational system that's working very well for you, and you are cool with the way your fridge is handling your food, then a smart fridge may not be worth it practically. However, if the smart fridge's features mentioned above sound like they would make your life easier, then one could be worth the extra expenses.
28.What can a smart refrigerator do
A.Order food.
B.Record the contents inside.
C.Deal with emergency.
D.Share information with supermarkets.
29.Which of the following best describes the smart refrigerator
A.Energy-saving but expensive.
B.Child-friendly but noisy.
C.Time-saving but unsafe.
D.Convenient but power-consuming.
30.What does the author suggest in the last paragraph
A.Accepting a smart fridge passively.
B.Highly recommending us to own a smart fridge.
C.Thinking reasonably about having a smart fridge.
D.Firmly rejecting the idea of buying a smart fridge.
31.Where does the text most probably come from
A.A poster. B.A magazine.
C.A novel. D.A guidebook.
D
Japanese automaker Toyota has announced plans to create a model of the “city of the future” to test and develop new technologies. The project will involve “building a complete city from the ground up” at the foot of Japan's Mount Fuji. The company announced the plans during the yearly CES technology show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Biking offers a number of life-changing benefits to its riders. It fights overweight and heart disease as well as builds up muscles. Cycling for the commute (通勤) reduces noise and air pollutants and cuts down on greenhouse gases. 36 Not to mention that cycling is cheaper than driving.
37 A bike company conducted a survey and found out that the number one thing preventing people from biking to work was “awareness of road safety”. Sharing the road with cars can be dangerous. Omar Bakhshi, an app developer, experienced this first-hand when a car hit him, leaving him with an injury that affected his taste and smell for life. 38 That was why he set out to make the roads safer to share.
He started a company, Tether, to improve safety conditions for urban cyclists. Tether has developed a small smart sensor that is installed on a bike's handlebars. As the biker rides through the city, the device projects a “safety zone” of lights onto the sidewalk. If cars get too close to the biker's personal space, the lights will start flashing. 39 What makes Bakhshi's device different to similar devices on the market are its smart features. Tether's tool collects data from close encounters (相遇) with cars. The data is then organized into a central database. 40 When biking and driving can both share road safety awareness, biking will become a beautiful sight in the city.
A.City biking is far from safe.
B.Bikers can go quickly and safely.
C.He realized that what happened to him wasn't unusual.
D.In other words, it's a clean and green way to get to work.
E.With all these advantages, why aren't there many bikers on city roads
F.This can remind car drivers to pay attention to the rules of sharing the road.
G.Thus, bikers can access the information to determine which streets are safer for them.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As he lay awake that night, Tony could hear his parents discussing his sister Alice's birthday. It was just two days away.Birthdays were always fun, even though there was no money for store-bought gifts. Nearly all of the toys he and his sister had were homemade. There was nothing wrong with that, he knew. Like many families in this part, they were poor.
This birthday would be different, though. Alice was older now, and he'd seen how her eyes lit up when she saw the new doll at Honey House, a neighborhood store just down the road from their house.
How he longed for her to have it! An idea finally came to him just before he went to bed. After a quick breakfast the following morning, he tied a bag to the handlebar of his bike and headed toward a hill.
After a long journey, he reached his destination, the mango forest. There were already two other boys there. Tony grabbed his bag and set to work immediately.
The sun was high overhead. The weather was hot and nearly all of the taller trees held ripe mangoes but they were well beyond the reach. Tony struggled to climb the trees to pick mangoes, though he fell off many times.
His efforts were sometimes rewarded when a mango dropped into the bag. After a while his neck ached from looking upward, and his arms grew sore. He kept at it, though, and by late afternoon his bag was nearly full.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Tony rushed back to Honey House, out of breath, only to find the owner of the store was going to close the door.

The following morning, Alice walked into the kitchen and took a seat at the breakfast table.
