When Mia DaPonte was young, she learned that her mother had become an Open Water Diver. Mia decided to become a diver, too. But the youngest one that can start training as a diver is 10 years old.
Once Mia came of age, she got serious. First, she got her Open Water Diver certificate Mia lives in Rhode Island, where the oceans are cold, and people usually can’t see very far. But she didn’t let that discourage her. It’s a rule that when one is diving, they should always have a companion — a second person working with them when diving. Mia’s mother decided to take all the courses Mia was taking to be her companion.
Mia completed 78 dives — far more than the 50 needed to become a Master Scuba Diver. But Mia had to wait for her last two courses — Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver. That’s because one has to be at least 12 years old to earn these certificates.
Over the week before her birthday, Mia did most of the training required for the last two courses and she passed the Advanced Open Water course on her birthday. The next day, when she was officially 12, Mia finished the Rescue Diver course.
That was not getting along without difficulties. Mia did three dives in one day, including one deep dive down to 17.5 meters and she had to made her night dive. The hardest part of the course was showing that she could raise an injured grow-up diver to the surface and take the steps needed to help restart their breath.
Mia says she feels proud to have become a Master Scuba Diver. But she doesn’t plan to stop there. She’s interested in getting more training as a diver. In the future, she hopes to become a marine (海的) biologist.
24.What made Mia’s mother take the same diving courses
A.Improving her own diving skills.
B.Setting a good example for Mia.
C.Watching over Mia’s training process.
D.Being Mia’s diving partner as required.
25.Why was Mia unable to become a Master Scuba Diver according to paragraph 3
A.She couldn’t see far in the sea.
B.She didn’t have a companion.
C.She didn’t finish the dives that were needed.
D.She was too young to attend related courses.
26.What challenged Mia most about the Rescue Diver course
A.Diving deep to 17.5 meters.
B.Finishing three dives one day.
C.Performing first aid on adults.
D.Making night diving by herself.
27.Which of the following can best describe Mia
A.Tough and strong-willed.
B.Determined and open-minded.
C.Serious and easy-going.
D.Curious and warm-hearted.
Britain was once covered with rainforests, known as Celtic rainforests or Atlantic woodland. The temperate (温带的) rainforests only occur in places close to the sea with high rainfall, high humidity (湿度) and low variations in temperature and full of plants and animals. The Celtic rainforests used to spread out all across the wetter areas of the country’s west. But over the centuries the ancient woodlands were later cleared and changed into grasslands for sheep and cattle. By the start of the 20th century, Britain had become the least-wooded country in Europe, with only small parts remaining in western coastal rainforest areas.
There’s a new rainforest coming back to Britain right now. A movement is underway across Britain to recover these forgotten ecosystems. And in Devon, the first step towards achieving that has just been completed. With the help of over 100 local volunteers, more than 2,500 native trees have been planted at Devon Wildlife Trust’s Bowden Pillars site, not far from the town of Totnes. It’s hoped that another 4,500 oak, rowan, alder, hazel, birch, willow and holly trees will be planted by the end of this winter and over the coming decades, and that they’ll grow to form a thriving (欣欣向荣的) temperate rainforest.
The recovery programme, led by The Wildlife Trusts, is happening across other parts of the country, including Cornwall and Pembrokeshire and has been boosted by a significant 38 million of funding from an insurance company.
Claire Inglis, a nature reserve officer at Devon Wildlife Trust, said, “The full grown temperate rainforest will take several decades to become established, but the advantages for nature will be much swifter. The mix of young trees planted among grasslands and hedges (树篱), along with our promise not to use chemicals, will be better for local butterflies and bees, along with local birds such as yellowhammers and barn owls. It will be fascinating to see how it develops.”
28.What was mainly responsible for Britain’s lost Celtic rainforest in the past
A.Low temperature. B.Animal farming.
C.Plant variation. D.High humidity.
29.What can we say about the movement across Britain
A.It’s worrying. B.It’s promising.
C.It’s unrealistic. D.It’s uncontrollable.
30.What does the underlined word “swifter” in the last paragraph mean
A.Further. B.More unlikely.
C.Quicker. D.More costly.
31.Which can be the best title for the text
A.A Story of Destruction About Britain’s Lost Rainforests
B.The Challenges of Reviving Celtic Rainforests in Britain
C.A Nationwide Effort to Revive Lost Rainforests in Britain
D.The Truth of the Disappearance of Britain’s Celtic Rainforests
In 2020, scientists claimed to have found a sign of life on Venus (金星): a smelly gas called phosphine that’s made by tiny living things on Earth. The claim was quickly stirring up disagreement. Now, another smelly gas is making waves in the search for alien (外星的) life — now turning to a planet beyond our solar system. Researchers announced on April 16 that they had used data from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to discover a gas called dimethyl sulfide (DMS) in the atmosphere of a distant planet called K2-18b. On Earth, DMS is mostly made by tiny ocean plants. On other planets, it could be what’s called a biosignature
The University of Cambridge, which hosts several of the researchers involved in the discovery, was quick to promote the finding as the strongest sign of biological activity outside the solar system. Some media agents followed suit to publicize the DMS as a likely sign of life.
But scientists not involved in the discovery aren’t as overjoyed. For Clara Sousa-Silva, an astrochemist at Bard College who has weathered the storm of the Venus biosignature debate in 2020, she now watches history repeat itself. “The situation is disappointingly familiar. We did not learn enough from the ‘phosphine on Venus’ event,” she said.
Those scientists use JWST to discover gases in K2-18b’s atmosphere by analyzing how starlight changes as it passes through K2-18b’s atmosphere. Each gas leaves unique marks in the light, which appear as squiggly lines on special graphs. They compared these lines to 20 different molecules (分子). Sousa-Silva pointed most of the molecules aren’t structurally similar to DMS.
National Geographic contacted some experts to find out what to make of this new biosignature claim. Their views are represented: It’s an interesting discovery, perhaps even an important step on the way to discovering life on other planets one day. They stressed on “one day”.
32.Why did the researchers consider DMS as a sign of life
A.It is mostly made up of phosphine.
B.It is just as smelly as phosphine on Venus.
C.It was found on K2-18b that has living things.
D.It is mainly produced by living things on Earth.
33.What is Clara Sousa-Silva’s attitude to the new biosignature claim
A.Doubtful. B.Excited. C.Confused. D.Uncaring.
34.How did scientists identify DMS in K2-18b’s atmosphere
A.By observing ocean plants on K2-18b.
B.By directly collecting gas from K2-18b.
C.By studying starlight passing through its atmosphere.
D.By matching it with 20 molecules of similar structure.
35.What can be inferred from the experts’views in the last paragraph
A.Findings from JWST’s are quite disappointing.
B.More evidence is needed to confirm the claim.
C.They believe that life surely exists on K2-18b.
D.They confirm the discovery a big achievement.
Too much stress harms us, but insufficient stress is actually just as harmful. 36 . Good stress has a very different effect on our bodies than the harmful stress. What can you do to introduce good stress into your life Search out the right amount
Life wasn’t exactly stress-free. Therefore, go outside your comfort zone to challenge yourself. Good stress can be like medicine. And like any medicine, the dose (剂量) determines the effectiveness. Growth happens when stress falls with the sweet spot — neither too much nor too little. 37 . Stay true to yourself
38 . If it feels forced, it’s probably harmful stress. Good stress isn’t about positively considering bad stress as good stress. It’s about purposefully taking on tasks that fulfill you — like a job that fits your values. Good stress should feel tough but rewarding, like training for a marathon you want to run — not one someone else signed you up for. 39
Physically stressing yourself in a good way can help you become mentally strong and vice versa For example, exercise energetically, briefly expose (使……体验) yourself to heat and cold, and diet control now and then through time-limited eating. These practices train your body to handle stress better while also building mental strength, turning possible harm into real toughness. Trust that you are made for some stress
Experiencing stress is not a mistake — it’s part of being human. Our human history is one of overcoming stress and becoming stronger because of it. Through repeat cycles of stress and recovery, we unlock our natural strength. 40 . Toughness is a muscle we can all build no matter where we are or what we are facing.
A.Choose meaningful challenges
B.It’s a gift we have received from our DNA
C.Make the most of your mind-body connection
D.You can’t control or avoid the long-term stress
E.The effects on us depend on the type and amount of stress
F.Ask yourself if the challenge matches what you really care about
G.In other words, push yourself into water and swim, but don’t let yourself in danger

My parents couldn’t afford to have someone watch me at lunchtime. Because I was scared to be alone at home, I would eat quickly and run back to hide in an outside stairwell in the schoolyard to wait until afternoon classes started.
One day, Mrs. Brennan found me while getting her sweater back that had fallen out of a window. That afternoon, she told my mom that I could stay at school every lunchtime to help with some small chores (杂事), instead of going home for lunch. She would provide a meal for me as “payment”. Mom was grateful that I’d be under adult supervision (监管).
My duties started the next afternoon. When the class ended, I would race up to Mrs. Brennan’s room and get a lunch box packed with delicious food. As we ate, Mrs. Brennan listened intently to my trivial (琐碎的) childish chatter, drawing me out of my shy shell with her genuine interest. After lunch, I would clean the blackboard, chalk tray and the erasers in preparation for afternoon class.
That year, we were introduced to creative writing. Mrs. Brennan noticed my gift for writing and supplied me with extra notebooks to write down my thoughts and stories. Over time, she encouraged me to try poetry. While I was creating my poems, time seemed to stop. It was only when I saw Mrs. Brennan tidy up the blackboard that I realized I had forgotten my duties. Instead of criticizing (指责) me, she told me softly, “It was never about the chores, Mary, but about making you feel safe.”
In fifth grade, Mom made arrangements to send me elsewhere for lunch, but I continued to see Mrs. Brennan and share my creative writing with her every chance I could, never tiring of her praise and warm hugs.
On the last day of the term, she hugged me as always, but her hug was tighter and longer, saying goodbye and wishing me a good holiday.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
Summer vacation going by fast, I rushed to school, eager to see Mrs. Brennan again.

About four years ago, I moved to the city in hopes of finding a job as a photographer. When I had been there for three months, I started to become very worried because I couldn’t find a job. The only money I was able to make was from selling my photographs on the streets. Being a photographer and selling photographs was what I wanted, but I needed a company to pay me to do it. Though I was running out of money, I still didn’t give up and continued looking for a job. Then I was able to make some extra money by collecting glass for recycling, and sometimes I even borrowed money from a friend. One night, when I was feeling particularly hopeless, I received a phone call from a man asking about a picture I had sold weeks ago. He wanted to know if I had taken it myself. When I said yes, he invited me to his company. It turned out to be an advertising company and they wanted to hire me.

根据第一段“But over the centuries the ancient woodlands were later cleared and changed into grasslands for sheep and cattle. (但几个世纪以来,这些古老的林地后来被清理并变成了放牧牛羊的草地)”可知,英国凯尔特雨林消失的主要原因是畜牧业的发展。故选B项。
29.推理判断题。根据第二段“A movement is underway across Britain to recover these forgotten ecosystems. (一场恢复这些被遗忘的生态系统的运动正在英国各地展开)”以及后文提到的植树计划和资金支持,可以看出这一运动充满希望。故选B项。
30.词义猜测题。根据最后一段“The full grown temperate rainforest will take several decades to become established, but the advantages for nature will be much swifter. (成熟的温带雨林需要几十年的时间才能形成,但是对自然的好处会更swifter)”,由but可知,前后形成转折,前面说需要的时间长,后面应表示好处来得快,所以“swifter”意为“更快的”。故选C项。
31.主旨大意题。根据第一段“The Celtic rainforests used to spread out all across the wetter areas of the country’s west. But over the centuries the ancient woodlands were later cleared and changed into grasslands for sheep and cattle.

根据第一段“On Earth, DMS is mostly made by tiny ocean plants. On other planets, it could be what’s called a biosignature (生命印记) .(在地球上,DMS主要是由微小的海洋植物产生的。在其他星球上,这可能是所谓的生物特征)”可知,DMS在地球上主要由海洋微生物产生,因此研究人员将其视为潜在的生命迹象。故选D。
33.推理判断题。根据第三段“For Clara Sousa-Silva, an astrochemist at Bard College who has weathered the storm of the Venus biosignature debate in 2020, she now watches history repeat itself. “The situation is disappointingly familiar. We did not learn enough from the ‘phosphine on Venus’ event,” she said.(巴德学院(Bard College)的天体化学家克拉拉·索萨-席尔瓦(Clara Sousa-Silva)经受住了2020年金星生物特征辩论的风暴,她现在看着历史重演。“这种情况令人失望地熟悉。我们没有从‘金星上的磷化氢’事件中学到足够的东西,”她说)”推知,她对这一新发现持怀疑态度。故选A。
根据倒数第二段“Those scientists use JWST to discover gases in K2-18b’s atmosphere by analyzing how starlight changes as it passes through K2-18b’s atmosphere.(这些科学家利用JWST通过分析星光穿过K2-18b大气层时的变化来发现K2-18b大气中的气体)”可知,科学家通过分析星光穿过K2-18b大气层时的变化来检测气体。故选C。
根据最后一段“Their views are represented: It’s an interesting discovery, perhaps even an important step on the way to discovering life on other planets one day. They stressed on “one day”.(他们的观点得到了体现:这是一个有趣的发现,甚至可能是有朝一日在其他星球上发现生命的重要一步。他们强调“有一天”)”推知,目前仍需更多证据来支撑这一发现。故选B。

【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了引入良性压力的四种方式。
36.根据上文“Too much stress harms us, but insufficient stress is actually just as harmful.(过多的压力会对我们造成损害,但压力过少也同样有害)”以及后文“Good stress has a very different effect on our bodies than the harmful stress. What can you do to introduce good stress into your life (良好的压力对我们身体的影响与有害压力截然不同。那么,你能做些什么来将良好的压力引入自己的生活呢?)”可知,后文提到了良好的压力,推测本句是在说明压力的类型带来的不同影响。故E选项“压力带给我们的影响取决于压力的类型和程度”符合语境,故选E。
37.根据上文“Life wasn’t exactly stress-free. Therefore, go outside your comfort zone to challenge yourself. Good stress can be like medicine. And like any medicine, the dose (剂量) determines the effectiveness. Growth happens when stress falls with the sweet spot — neither too much nor too little.(生活并非完全没有压力。因此,要走出自己的舒适区,挑战自我。适度的压力就像良药。就像任何药物一样,剂量决定了效果。只有当压力处于最佳状态——既不过多也不过少时——才能促进成长)”可知,本句总结上文提到的“适度压力”的核心——主动走出舒适区但避免承受过度的压力。故G选项“换句话说,把自己推入水中并学习游泳,但别让自己陷入危险”符合语境,故选G。
38.根据本段主旨“Stay true to yourself(忠于自我)”以及后文“If it feels forced, it’s probably harmful stress. Good stress isn’t about positively considering bad stress as good stress. It’s about purposefully taking on tasks that fulfill you — like a job that fits your values. Good stress should feel tough but rewarding, like training for a marathon you want to run — not one someone else signed you up for.(如果这种感觉显得很勉强,那很可能就是有害的压力。好的压力并非是将不良压力积极地视为良好的压力。好的压力是指有目的地承担那些能让你感到满足的任务——比如一份符合你价值观的工作。好的压力应该感觉艰难但有回报,就像你想要参加并为之努力训练的一场马拉松比赛——而不是是你被别人安排去参加的那种比赛)”可知,本句说明段落主题“忠于自我”的内涵。故F选项“问问自己这个挑战是否与你真正在意的事物匹配”符合语境,故选F。
39.根据本段内容“Physically stressing yourself in a good way can help you become mentally strong and vice versa (反之亦然). For example, exercise energetically, briefly expose (使……体验) yourself to heat and cold, and diet control now and then through time-limited eating. These practices train your body to handle stress better while also building mental strength, turning possible harm into real toughness.(以一种良好的方式对自身进行身体上的压力锻炼,能够帮助你增强心理素质,反之亦然。例如,进行高强度的运动,短暂地接触高温和低温环境,以及定期通过限时进食来控制饮食。这些做法能训练你的身体更好地应对压力,同时也能增强心理素质,将潜在的伤害转化为真正的坚韧)”可知,该段介绍了身心协同抗压的方法。故C选项“充分利用你的身心连接”符合语境,故选C。
40.根据上文“Experiencing stress is not a mistake — it’s part of being human. Our human history is one of overcoming stress and becoming stronger because of it. Through repeat cycles of stress and recovery, we unlock our natural strength.(经历压力并非错误之举——这是人类天性的一部分。人类的历史就是不断克服压力并因此变得更强大的历程。通过反复经历压力与恢复的过程,我们能够释放出自身内在的力量)”可知,上文提到,通过不断地经历压力和从中恢复,我们发现自己天生的优点。本句承接上文,总结这种特点的来源。故B选项“这是DNA赋予我们的礼物”符合语境,故选B。

66.Dear Alex,
I’m writing to share with you an amazing experience. Last week, our school organized a visit to the city science and technology museum. The purpose was to let us learn about modern technology.
There, I saw various high-tech products, like smart robots and virtual reality devices. I also experienced a flight simulation. It was so vivid that I felt like I was really flying.
This visit was truly eye opening. It made me more interested in science and technology.
Yours,
Li Hua
67.One possible version:
Summer vacation going by fast, I rushed to school, eager to see Mrs. Brennan again. As I entered the schoolyard, I couldn’t wait to run up to her classroom. But when I peeked inside, her desk was empty. A strange feeling rose in my chest. I turned to a passing teacher and asked where she was. The teacher gently told me that Mrs. Brennan had fallen ill during the summer and was now in a hospital in another city. I stood there, stunned. That afternoon, I sat alone on the old stairwell, holding one of the notebooks she had given me. Without her warm smile, school felt lonely again.
The next day, I decided to write a letter to Mrs. Brennan who was in hospital in another city. I wrote about how much she meant to me and how she helped me find my voice through writing. I thanked her for making me feel safe and for seeing something in me I hadn’t seen myself. I told her I still wrote poems and cleaned the blackboard just like before. Weeks later, I got a reply. She wrote, “You were always worth it.” Those words stayed with me forever.
