In September, a sixth-grade class from a Chinese school began a different journey. Under the organization of the parent association, the students began a 5-kilometer morning jogging program in a park of Beijing, with the aim of improving their fitness, building self-confidence, and developing patience. Every Saturday morning, with a parent chosen as the coach to guide them, they lace d up their shoes and set off.
The first run was a real challenge. After running just several hundred meters, a few students were out of breath. Some couldn't even make it halfway, and others had to rely on each other for support to reach the finish line. However, despite the difficulties, their determination never wavered.Along the way, many felt energetic. Most made it to the end by completing their 10th run on Saturday to celebrate their upcoming graduation, as they had been exercising regularly.
In recent years, some surveys have shown that the rate of obesity among students who are short of exercise is increasing rapidly. According to an authority report, one in five individuals aged six to seventeen is now overweight, a significant rise from one in twenty in 1995. In addition to weight problems, the lack of exercise has also led to an increase of short-sightedness in schools.
Recognizing the potential link between decreased physical activity and health-related problems, various measures have been taken to reduce students' pressure and increase their exercise time, such as reducing the after-school homework burden.
The sixth-grade jogging program serves as an inspiring example, offering a solution to help students find more time to experience health, happiness, and friendship through physical activity. It shows that with dedication and support, even a simple jogging routine can have a great effect on the well - being of young students.
14. Why did the parent association organize the morning jogging program
A. To meet the parents' requirements.
B. To live up to the coach's expectations.
C. To improve the students’ physical and mental health.
D. To replace the school's present physical education classes.
15. What can we learn about the students in the first run
A. Few of them felt energetic. B. Most of them gave up halfway.
C. None of them completed the run. D. Not all of them made it to the end.
16. Which word can best describe the morning jogging program
A. Traditional. B. Influential. C. Global. D. Limitless.

According to a landmark study published today in the journal Science, butterfly numbers across the U. S. have dropped by 22% between 2000 and 2020. Researchers analyzed data from 35monitoring programs tracking 554 species at nearly 2,500 locations. “This is a wake-up call. People should be seeing this number and being very, very concerned, not just about butterflies, but about the state of insects in general.” says Eliza Grames, a conservation biologist(保护生物学家) at Binghamton University in New York and co-author of the study.
The findings show over 100 species lost half their population including 22 that decreased by 90% or more. Even common butterflies like the West Virginia white were struggling. Decreases were strongest in the Southwest, while the Pacific Northwest showed smaller losses. However, the study might not show the full picture. Scientists only had enough data to study half of U. S. butterfly species. Grames explained that unstudied species might be in worse condition since they are harder to observe.
“This isn't just about butterflies——it's a warning sign for the overall biodiversity crisis(生物多样性危机),” says Grames. Insect populations worldwide are decreasing 1-2% yearly due to similar threats. Birds and other animals relying on insects for food face growing risks.
Many factors lead to butterfly losses including habitat loss, climate change and pesticide(杀虫剂) use. While solving these problems requires big society efforts, each of us can help . Grames says,“Because insects can have one to three generations per year, even small changes to the environment——such as planting native flowers or creating habitats——can ensure a pretty immediate

increase in population.”
Of course, participating in butterfly monitoring programs in community is another way to make a difference. “I think butterflies do have the ability to recover fast, if we put the effort into conservation actions.” says Grames.
17. What does the text suggest about unstudied butterfly species
A. They are less influenced by pesticides.
B. Their situations might be more serious.
C. Current monitoring programs are ineffective.
D. Butterflies are harder to track than other insects.
18. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. Pesticides are the primary threat.
B. Habitat loss drives butterfly decrease.
C. Global solutions outweigh individual actions.
D. Ordinary people can improve butterfly populations.
19. What is Dr. Grames’ attitude toward butterfly protection efforts
A. Hopeful. B. Doubtful. C. Concerned D. Uninterested.
20. Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. Plant Native Flowers to Help Insects
B. Southwest Butterflies Disappear Fastest
C. Butterfly Monitoring Programs May Help
D. Butterfly Loss Warns of Global Wildlife Crisis
