Perhaps my favorite place during my trip to Guangxi was the Longji Rice Terraces (梯田) in Longsheng. I've seen rice terraces elsewhere in Asia, but nothing compared with the beauty of the Longji Rice Terraces. To go to Guangxi and skip these rice terraces would be a loss.
These over 600 year old terraces are still very much in use and feed the local Yao and Zhuang communities; you can find many guesthouses throughout the various rice terraces, and while accommodations are very basic, I would strongly suggest spending a night in the peaceful terraces, surrounded by nothing but rice.
My friends and I had arrived in Guangxi on harvest day and we were told by our local guide it was too late to see Longji in its autumnal beauty. But we were super lucky because the harvest had been put off, and when we arrived in Longsheng a couple of days later, it was the last day before the harvest began. It's quite risky to time your visit this way, but it is amazing to see the Longji Rice Terraces both before harvest and after, when it takes on a completely new character.
The two main terraced areas are the Ping'an Terraced Fields and the Jinkeng Terraced Fields. The former is home to the local Zhuang people and has more visitors as it's easier to reach. Jinkeng, on the other hand, is less visited. The Red Yao people live here, and should you need a hand with your suitcase, their women are happy to help you. We chose Jinkeng because it's home to the highest point of the Longji Rice Terraces. The viewpoint is nearly 4,000 feet high. We had to go up there as our hotel was up there, but you should anyway as it's the most wonderful viewpoint.
The Longji Rice Terraces are supposed to be beautiful in the spring and summer as well, though I much prefer its autumnal beauty. Winter, I'd skip, as it was already cold enough at night in October, but I'd return and visit again in the spring or summer.
4.What is the author's advice for people visiting the Longji Rice Terraces
A.Staying a night at a guesthouse among the terraces.
B.Going to the local Yao and Zhuang communities.
C.Choosing good accommodations.
D.Eating the local rice.
5.Why did the author feel very lucky when he arrived in Longsheng
A.He could enjoy the terraces' autumnal beauty.
B.He found a time saving way to the terraces.
C.He came across one of his friends.
D.He had a professional local guide.
6.What made the author choose the Jinkeng Terraced Fields
A.The affordable hotel. B.The friendly people.
C.The great viewpoint. D.The light traffic.
7.Where can the text be found
A.In a short novel. B.In a news report.
C.In a history book. D.In a travel magazine.

In the South Atlantic Ocean, there is an island called Tristan da Cunha, which is a six day boat ride from the nearest town Cape Town in South Africa. There's no airport on Tristan. Every month or so, a boat will bring visitors but not many. The boat will also bring mail and supplies. You can only see about 270 people, 300 cows, 500 sheep, and a whole lot of penguins there.
The British tried to build a military base there in 1816. They gave up after a year. But a soldier and his family took a few people into staying. Those people slowly built a community. Few trees grow on the island. So they found wood that washed ashore. They used it to build homes and boats. For food, they raised cows, sheep and pigs. They fished and planted potatoes. They promised to share everything they had. Sometimes ships brought supplies to Tristan. But for many years, no one there used money. Instead, people on the island traded potatoes for supplies. It cost five potatoes to send a piece of mail.
Today, nearly everyone on Tristan is a farmer. The island's main industry is fishing. It has a single factory that cans fish.
Several times, bad luck has nearly destroyed the town on Tristan. In 1885, men died in a boat accident. That left 13 women and only 4 adult men on the island. Still, everyone stayed. In 1961, a bigger disaster stuck. The town was destroyed by a volcanic eruption. All 290 people on the island moved to England. But soon, nearly all of them moved back to the island and rebuilt their town.
What's so special about life on this lonely island For islanders like Harold Green, that's an easy question to answer. Green has lived on Tristan his whole life. He left when the volcano erupted. But England was too loud and too crowded for him. He came back because the island is peaceful.

An Act of Neighborliness
The skies were dark. A strong wind was blowing hard, cutting my face like a sharp knife. Rain fell in big drops and thunder and lightning flashed across the skies. I shook with cold and fear as I walked home, through the streams of muddy water. Some people were rushing by, completely wet in the heavy rain.
Along the way, I saw some schoolchildren holding their heavy schoolbags tightly and rushing home. I also saw that some road repair work had been abandoned by workers. Obviously, the workers had left in a hurry because of the storm. There were few signs and it was hard to see what was on the road. There were pieces of wood and metal and it looked like a hole had been dug and hurriedly covered with boards.
I moved on but suddenly stopped as I heard some sounds. It sounded like children crying. I quickly turned back and went back to the place from where the sounds came. I was frightened! To my sadness, I found that two small children had fallen into the hole on the road. The boards had moved away with the force of the rushing water. I could hardly see the children as it was dark all around me. I told them that I was going to look for help. I knew the neighbors well, and they all shared a sense of neighborliness, willing to give a hand.

I rushed to the nearest house, Mr Lee's, and told him about the problem.

Dear Mike,
Welcome to China! Then I'd like to recommend Hangzhou to you.
A flight can take you to Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province. If I were you, I would visit the West Lake first. Especially amazing is its unique “ten night views”, where you can spend one or two days traveling by boat or cycling. Hangzhou is also rich in culture, so I suggest you save some time to admire its architecture and enjoy the excellent local food such as Dongpo Pork. Anyway, you are bound to get firsthand experience about this paradise.
I am looking forward to your coming!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 参考范文:
I rushed to the nearest house, Mr Lee's, and told him about the problem. He readily said that he would get a torch and some ropes. He also called his good friends to come along with him. A few other neighbors also quickly joined the rescue party and together went to the road. They managed to get the children out of the watery hole safely. The children were scared silly and they shook all over with cold, daring not to make a movement.Suddenly, someone recognised the children, and called their parents. Before long, the parents were in a hurry to come.
Hearing of what had happened, the children's parents were in relief. They were very grateful to the neighbors who had helped to rescue the children and thanked them repeatedly. A flood of happiness welled up in me because I had been part of this act of neighborliness. It was a wonderful moment, one I would never forget. The neighbors had been great. They had helped people in need without hesitation. Bathed in much warmth, I headed for home.
