A
Chelsea Sodaro is a 34 year old new mom who recently won the VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, in the professional women's field.Just 18 months after giving birth to her daughter, Skylar, the professional triathlete won the intense competition.
The IRONMAN World Championship required contestants to complete a difficult race — a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run. A resident in Reno, Nevada told Fox News Digital, “The IRONMAN World Championship is the most important part of our sport. All the best athletes show up ready to throw_down.”
Sodaro, shockingly, had only ever completed one IRONMAN prior to the World Championship — in June 2022. With just one other full IRONMAN finished, Chelsea Sodaro had to train hard for the championship. The preparation for a race like this can vary depending on the competitor, but for Sodaro, preparation was the key to her massive success. The triathlete trains roughly 25 — 30 hours a week across all areas of the race: swimming, biking and running. Training athletes like her also tend to lift weights and gain muscle to help them succeed in the race.
However, this particular competition proved to be a challenge beyond the physical training aspect.
Sodaro said the Big Island of Hawaii had unique climate conditions that required additional training on her part. But during the days leading up to the race day, Sodaro said she was very nervous. But she said that right before the race began, she felt a sense of peace. “I poured so much into my work, and my family made a lot of sacrifices to get me to the start line in one piece. I knew that I was ready to have a great day,” she said.
So how did Sodaro make it to the finish line first She said she stayed focused and didn't panic when things went wrong. Sodaro crossed the finish line at 8:33:46. That made her the first rookie (新选手) to win the IRONMAN World Championship in 15 years and the first American in over 25 years.

Peterley Manor Farm in the Chiltern Hills has moved a long way from conventional farming. Roger Brill, a fourth generation farmer, and his wife, Jane, took over a rundown turkey farm in 1982 and started growing and selling fruits and vegetables. Now, their 40 acre farm features a “wild spa” with outdoor ice baths, yoga in a tent, and a café in a tractor garage. Surprisingly, their farm's produce, including Christmas trees and apple juice, made up less than a tenth of their income last year.
“Social media has changed everything,” according to Katy Brill, who took over the farm from her parents in 2014. Novel experiences and scenic backdrops do very well on social media platforms. Besides the spa, the farm also offers fitness camps, an outdoor cinema, and play areas for kids, all with beautiful views. They're even planning a nature based nursery.
Branching_out has become normal for modern farmers. Nearly 70% of farms in England are exploring new business. Consumer focused services in particular are growing fast. Social media use and a shift towards sustainability and wellness have increased the demand for farm experiences. Farm shops are selling more than before. And farms across Britain outperformed hotels as wedding venues (地点) in 2023, according to data from a wedding planning website.
The decision to diversify may not be new: farmers have sought alternative income for decades. But the need has become more urgent. Farms have been under pressure by huge rises in energy costs and higher labor costs. Increasingly unpredictable weather, including record amounts of rainfall, has made harvests less reliable.
Diversification brings new opportunities for struggling farms, but adapting to consumer demands leaves them exposed to wider economic cycles. It also requires them to find workers with new skills. In one respect, though, things are not different from old fashioned farming. “The hospitality (服务) business is extremely difficult,” says Ms Brill.“It's hard work and long hours.”

A.Enlarging children's play areas.
B.Improving farm produce quality.
C.Focusing on conventional farming.
D.Stressing promotion by social media.
3.What does the underlined phrase “branching out” in paragraph 3 mean?( )
A.Narrowing. B.Extending.

根据画线部分上文中的“The IRONMAN World Championship required contestants to complete a difficult race — a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run.”以及“The IRONMAN World Championship is the most important part of our sport.”
根据第三段中的“The preparation for a race like this can vary depending on the competitor, but for Sodaro, preparation was the key to her massive success.”

根据第一段“Now, their 40 acre farm features a ‘wild spa’ with outdoor ice baths, yoga in a tent, and a café in a tractor garage. Surprisingly, their farm's produce, including Christmas trees and apple juice, made up less than a tenth of their income last year.”
根据第二段“‘Social media has changed everything,’ according to Katy Brill, who took over the farm from her parents in 2014.”
根据第三段“Nearly 70% of farms in England are exploring new business. Consumer focused services in particular are growing fast.”
