1.In the middle of this particular scene I spot a small girl whose ankle is twice its normal size.

2.I speak with the on duty nurse, who tells me that Lara's parents rushed her to the hospital after she fell off her bicycle.
赏析:rush一词写出了劳拉的父母急匆匆送她就医的情形,暗示了当时劳拉父母内心的紧张、焦虑。
3.I spent much of the time when I was there feeling frightened and more than a little bored!
赏析:frightened和more than a little bored写出了作者住院时的紧张害怕以及感到枯燥无聊的心理状态。

2.Although the doctors and nurses did a great job, hospitals weren't really designed for children.

People sit uncomfortably on plastic chairs, looking through old magazines, all of which have been read hundreds of times previously.Anxious parents do what they can to comfort nervous and crying children.

The Benefits of Laughter
Laughter is a powerful and free medicine. Sharing a genuine laugh with a friend or co worker

can be enough to brighten up our day, no matter how down we feel. Laughter is an immunity booster and a confidence builder. Laughter can benefit our heart and reduce stress. Read the passage to learn more about the surprising benefits of laughter.
Have you ever been very stressed at work or school But when a friend told you a joke or a funny story, you might laugh so loudly that it almost relieved your stress. It is amazing how

much better laughter can make us feel, especially if it's totally out of the blue!
Negative stress causes chemical reactions in your body that lower your immunity, making you get sick more easily. A hearty laugh fuels your immune system with disease fighting power that will help you stay healthy and energetic.
Laughter reduces blood pressure and improves blood circulation, which will in turn reduce the chance of suffering a stroke (中风) or heart attack.
Confident people have an ability: no matter how bad their situation is, they are able to laugh at themselves, handling any problem calmly. Learning to laugh at yourself will help you minimize stress and damage.

A
One day a mime (哑剧演员) is visiting the zoo and attempts to earn some money as a street performer. As soon as he starts to draw a crowd, a zookeeper drags him into his office. The zookeeper explains that the zoo's most popular attraction,a gorilla (大猩猩), has died suddenly and the keeper fears that attendance at the zoo will fall off. He offers the mime a job to dress up as the gorilla. The mime accepts.
The next morning the mime puts on the gorilla suit and enters the cage before the crowd comes. He soon discovers he can sleep all as he likes, play and make fun of people and he draws bigger crowds than he ever did as a mime — the job he likes but loses.
However, with days going by,he begins to notice that the people are paying more attention to the lion in the cage next to his.Not wanting to lose the attention of his audience, he climbs to the top of his cage, crawls across a wall, and dangles (悬挂) from the top to the lion's cage. The lion gets angry at this. The scene is a fuel to the crowd.
At the end of the day he is given a raise for being such a good attraction. Well, this continues for some time. The crowds grow larger, and the mime's pay keeps going up.
Then one day when he is dangling over the lion, he slips and falls. The mime is terrified. He starts screaming, “Help me!” But the lion is quick. The mime soon finds himself flat on his back looking up at the angry lion and the lion says, “Shut up, you fool! Do you want to get us both fired?”

In the early 1990s, Madan Kataria, an Indian doctor who worked in Mumbai, became interested in the growing body of scientific evidence showing that laughter is extremely beneficial to human health. He made a decision that more laughter was needed to improve health and deal with the stress of modern living.
In 1995, while writing an article for a health journal, Dr Kataria discovered many modern scientific studies describing the benefits of laughter on the human mind and body.In particular, he was impressed by Norman Cousins' book Anatomy of an Illness and the research work by Dr Lee Berk. Then he began to field-test the effect of laughter on himself and others.
Starting with just five people, on March 13th, 1995, at a public park in his neighbourhood, Dr Kataria started the first laughter club. They laughed together in the park to the amusement of by-standers, and the small group quickly grew to more than 50 people within a few days.In the early meetings, they stood in a circle with one person in the center to tell a joke or a funny story.
Everybody enjoyed themselves and felt good for the rest of the day. However, after two weeks, their jokes and stories ran out. Some complained that it would be better to discontinue the club than to continue without any jokes.Dr Kataria asked the club members to give him one day to develop a breakthrough that would solve the problem.
That night, Dr Kataria reviewed his research and finally found the answer. Our body cannot differentiate between pretend and genuine laughter. In fact, both produced the same effect. The next morning, the results were amazing. For some, the make-believe (伪装) laughter quickly turned into real laughter.Soon the group was laughing like never before. The hearty laughter that followed lasted for almost ten minutes. This was the birth of Laughter Yoga.
