I was recently asked what inspires me most. That was easy to answer: I live and breathe track and field. It is the only sport that has allowed me to spread my wings and truly fly.I have struggled a lot in my life after being diagnosed (诊断) with a learning disability at the age of three.I was also born four months too early, weighing less than four pounds.
Even at 17, I'm still working to catch up.Mentally I'm on the level of a 12- year- old.I had to repeat the third and fifth grades, which caused me a lot of stress and embarrassment.
I was joked so much that I would often hide in the bathroom instead of going to class. My parents always gave me lots of love and support, but I still felt worthless most of the time.I'm also quite shy, so making and keeping friends has always been a challenge.
Then one day when I was 12, my life changed forever. My parents decided my younger brother and I should try track. From that moment on my life was different.I was a natural mid- distance runner. When I was on the track, the other kids just saw me and my speed. No one saw my learning disability. For the first time in my life I felt normal.
When I entered high school, I joined the track team and the coach quickly saw my talent.I was selected to run on the A team for cross- country and the A team for indoor and outdoor track.I'm on the school team for the 4×400- meter and 4×800- meter relays, and colleges are even interested in me!
My cross- country team won the 2011 County and Regional Championship. When I accepted my award, my mom cried because she was so proud of me, and for once, I was proud of myself.
Even though I'm a special- education student, I now know that my learning disability does not define (限定) me.I can hold my head up high because track has allowed me to spread my wings and truly fly!

Once upon a time, when you first attended a youth sporting event, your parents probably weren't expecting you to become a professional athlete. They signed up for a basketball, football or swimming course for you in the hope that you might learn lessons about winning decently, losing with dignity and insisting on it when things get hard.Yes, playing games is good exercise, but it is the life lessons that matter most.
For many of us, instead of looking to improve our minds and spirits, we began judging progress only by the size of our muscles or the numbers on a weighing machine. The thought that athletic competition is about greater life lessons and the building of character has been further undermined (削弱) by headlines about professional athletes.
“And yet there's still strong evidence that sports strongly improve certain personal qualities,” says Angela Lumpkin, professor of the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Kansas. And that's true for athletes of any age.Amateur sports (业余体育运动) provide a safe place for competition. They also provide a practice ground for managing stress.
The advantages of taking part in a sport can seep (渗透) into your professional life, too.In basketball, for example, “Getting everyone to play the right role on the court is the key to success,” says Alan Arlt, the founder of the lifetime fitness basketball program Ultimate Hoops.“That is certainly useful in the business world, where everyone understands their role in the organization.” “In athletic events, you go through good and bad times often in the period of two hours,” says former NBA head coach Flip Saunders.
“Do you have the calm manner to settle yourself down, or do you totally lose it and get thrown out of the game which hurts both you and your team All of that on- court experience has a real effect on how you deal with real- life situations.”

It's the end of another long day at the office after a poor night's sleep. As usual, you're exhausted, yet you want to stop at the gym on the way home to get the exercise you need to stay healthy. 9 This is a widespread problem.
To be healthy, the body needs to move through four stages of sleep several times each night. During the first and second stages, the body starts to decrease its rhythms. 10 Rapid eye movement sleep, called REM, is the final stage in which we dream. Studies have shown that missing REM sleep may lead to health problems. On the other hand, years of research has found sleep boosts immune functioning.
11 Without sleep, your muscles can't recover from the stress you put them through during workouts. “You have to give them time to recover and grow stronger,” said sleep specialist Dr Raj Dasgupta.“You're more likely to suffer an injury when you're exhausted due to slowed reaction times from your tired brain during the workout.” 12 You might find yourself fearing your normal workouts.
Use common sense, experts said. If you're not sleeping well, don't go for that intense workout. 13 If you're pressed for time, consider fitting in several short periods of exercise throughout your day. “Everything counts,” Dasgupta said. “Do anything that makes you feel happy and refreshed. This is about hitting the reset button for yourself, not doing some form of exercise because you feel it necessary to.”
A.Walk or do yoga instead.
B.How does sleep affect our brain
C.Should you work out when suffering from sleep loss
D.Poor sleep can affect your motivation to exercise, too.
E.It may be unwise to play a sport when you're very tired.
F.Enough workout can guarantee you good health and happiness.
G.Doing so prepares us for the third stage where the body is restoring itself.
C “Should you work out when suffering from sleep loss?”
G“Doing so prepares us for the third stage where the body is restoring itself.”
E“It may be unwise to play a sport when you're very tired.”
D“Poor sleep can affect your motivation to exercise, too.”
A“Walk or do yoga instead.”

根据第一段画线句子后面的“It is the only sport that has allowed me to spread my wings and truly fly.”
根据第一段中的“... diagnosed (诊断) with a learning disability at the age of three”可知,作者有学习障碍,即学习能力差。
根据第三段最后一句“For the first time in my life I felt normal.”
根据第二段中的“The thought that ... about professional athletes.”
