如本文,扫读文章可知,开头语部分为总述,关键句为“Who or what inspires them?”;再结合三个分述部分的关键词“find inspiration”“using a combination of ...”“gives me lots of inspiration”便可梳理出本文主线:一些知名艺术家是如何获得灵感来源的。
1.This story came to life for Hofman when he visited Wuzhen and saw how people lived there.
2.“I feel very grateful for the years in Xishuangbanna,” says Yang.
3.Our ethnic groups, especially the Dai people, admire the peacock.
①I love to watch __________________ in spring.
②________________________ you could give me some instructions on how to learn chemistry.
1.To listen to Tan's music is to experience a mix of Chinese musical traditions and Western influences.
2.As Tan once said, Chinese music should carry “universal expression” of the human spirit so as to be recognised by the whole world.
赏析:As Tan once said为as引导的非限制性定语从句,as表示“正如……”。后半句中的so as to表示目的,意思相当于in order to或 to,通常不位于句首。
①(完成句子)______________________, the trip is no piece of cake.
I saw the fish being fed by people. You see also some fish sculpted on the wall.
________________ stars shining in the night sky. ________________ nightingales singing in the forest.________________ the fragrance of flowers flowing in the air.
Every artist's wish is to create something that expresses an idea. But where do artists get their ideas from Who or what inspires them Here we find out more about the influences behind the successes of three very different artists.

What Is the Importance of Art in Life
To some people, art appears very impractical. They don't understand its purpose and while they may feel a given work is “interesting” or “ pretty”, they fail to grasp why it moves people. However, art serves as vital nourishment (营养) to the human spirit.
Beauty and Inspiration
Beauty itself serves as proof of the importance of art. A beautiful painting creates a sense of happiness in the viewer. Furthermore, such beauty may inspire the observer to have a more positive effect on the world around him, or to seek out similar scenes in the real world to further enrich his life.
Difference
Art acts to look at the world in ways we may not have otherwise considered. A tribal mask from Africa might display the carver's values, which an observer never stopped to think about before he saw it. On the contrary, a portrait of a beloved historic figure may be shown in an ugly or less flattering (讨好的) light forcing the viewer to reconsider. In each case, the art helps the viewer see things from another person's point of view, stressing our common human bonds as well as the different experiences.
Creativity
Art is fueled by imagination, which allows us to grow and stretch beyond our boundaries. Without trapped and unable to think in ways which can solve new found problems. Art is also used in more practical fields such as architecture, engineering and even medicine.
Life
Above all, art seeks to illuminate (阐明) the human condition — the things we struggle with, the ways life can confuse us and the efforts we make to find meaning of our existence. We all have just a handful of years in the world, and most of our work fades with time going by. But art provides a which we strive, but allowing those who come after us to study and seize the same truths.

A
Five year old Willard Wigan couldn't tell the difference between an M and a W or a 6 and a 9 because of dyslexia (诵读困难), a learning disability. Usually, his mind drifted — to playing outside, to his dog, or to the ants. Willard was especially curious about those ants. He felt like them, small and insignificant. He noticed the ants were coming and going from a hole in the dirt. Gathering pieces of wood, Willard constructed a little building for ants.
At school, Willard had problems, but he knew he could do something special. Willard created tiny furniture for the ant houses. His artistic skill increased, and a love for little things began to grow. At age nine, Willard began carving (雕刻) faces on toothpicks. When he showed his mother the carved faces, she said, “This is what you do well. You must work hard to be the best.” Years later, Willard carves the tiniest artwork in the world! His sculptures are so small that several can fit on a full stop at the end of a sentence.
Willard works best at night when there are few disturbances. He often works for months to complete a sculpture. Willard's favorite paintbrush is one hair from the back of a dead fly! To move his sculptures, Willard uses an eyelash. But even that can be tough. Once, while moving a microscopic Alice in Wonderland, his cell phone rang. Terrified, Willard took in a quick breath. When he looked back, Alice was gone. After laboring for weeks to carve her, he'd accidentally breathed her in!
Willard sculpts everything from famous people to fictional characters. Because of their beauty and rarity, his sculptures have made Willard a wealthy man. But he says, “Success isn't about material things like an expensive watch or a costly ring; it's about persevering with and achieving your dreams.” Willard Wigan who felt small as a boy has shown something small can really be big.

Making marks or signing names in the sand is a great fun for most travelers on a vacation beach. But for Dubai based Filipino artist Nathaniel A.Alapide, it's how he became a Guinness World Record holder.
Dubai's 72 kilometers coastline, and the vast Arabian Desert, are Alapide's canvas (画布). Using only a simple garden tool, he draws enormous lines across the beaches and deserts, making huge and complex designs. His average drawing is around 20 meters squared. When he includes a written message, the pieces can be more than 100 meters long.
Alapide's sand art began in 2014, when he drew a tree in memory of his late grandmother on the beach, near a five star hotel. The size of the drawing appealed to the hotel which offered him his first full time job as a sand artist in 2015.Since then, he has decorated the sands with around 1,900 drawings. He's been assigned by big brands, and he created a work for National Geographic for the program “The Emirates from Above”. In 2022, Alapide set a new record for the world's largest sand image.
Though Alapide has crafted a career from the practice, he says creating an artwork from sand isn't always plain sailing. “On the 20th day of creating the world record piece, we were almost 70% done but there was this weather that happened,” he says. “It was raining, and the wind was so strong, which removed almost the whole piece.”
“I think where I find this kind of work interesting ...” Alapide continues. He says that the temporary nature of his work reminds him that everything is in constant change. “And I think making sand art is a great way to connect with people,” he adds. “I like to watch how people interact with the work and I have found that the kids notice the drawings more than the adults. I think because they're more aware of their environment.”
5.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about Alapide's drawing
A.Its origin. B.Its size.
C.Its materials. D.Its features.

√
6.How did Alapide start his career of sand drawing
A.By decorating a hotel as required.
B.By impressing a hotel with his work.
C.By transplanting a tree on the beach.
D.By creating works for big brands.
√
7.What can we say about Alapide's job according to paragraph 4
A.Challenging. B.Worthless.
C.Influential. D.Impractical.
√
8.What does the last paragraph intend to convey
A.A candle lights others but consumes itself.
B.He who makes no mistakes makes nothing.
C.Happiness lies not in things, but in ourselves.
D.The longest journey begins with the first step.
√

For nearly 50 years,Zhao Yuming has been absorbed in his own world of clay figurines (泥塑).At age 62, Zhao is the only remaining clay sculpture master craftsman in Laoting County,Hebei Province. He has been officially recognised as a master of intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产). 9 This is more of a responsibility and a source of pressure.
10 In ancient times, Laoting clay figurines were mainly children's toys made by countryside artists. After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, there were several workshops in villages in Laoting County and the production reached a high level, but the prices were too low. 11 However, for a long period, many clay artists relied on making and selling clay figurines at those poor prices to make ends meet.
Nowadays, shopping malls are full of high end toys, so the Laoting clay figurines have gradually fallen out of favor. 12 Zhao said that although his children have other jobs to feed their families, he still wants to pass on his skills to them and his grandchildren.“If we do not pass it on, we will do a disservice to our country.Passing on the skills, honoring ourselves and repaying the country is the best option.”
Facing a demand for economic development, many regions are increasingly attaching importance to the protection of valuable traditional cultural skills.People come to realise that developing our cultural relics promotes the development of local economies. 13
A.But for him, this is not only an honor.
B.Later,it became known as “literary clay figurines”.
C.Clay figurines were sold for just a few pennies each.
D.Laoting clay sculpture has a nearly 500 year history.
E.Laoting clay sculpture is an important part of Zhao's life.
F.However, some craftsmen have chosen to continue the tradition.
G.More importantly, it contributes to the goal of building “a beautiful China”.
9.选A 由此处语境以及空后句中的“a responsibility and a source of pressure”可知,A项中的an honor与此呼应,其中的not only与空后句中的more of相对应。

A.Its origin. B.Its size.
