One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a boy from my class, named Kyle, who was walking home from school, carrying all of his books. I wanted to lend him a hand but I was in a hurry to go home. So l went on. Suddenly, I saw him falling on the ground. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him.
So, I jogged over to him when he crawled around looking for his glasses. “Hey, thanks!” he said as I handed him his glasses. There was a big smile on his face.
I learned our homes not far away from each other. So we went home together. From then on, I often invited him to played football together with my friends on Saturday and he made a very good impression on my friends and me. And then Kyle and I became the best friends.
Several years later, Kyle told me that he was asked to speak on graduation (毕业) day. In his speech, he said,“ The graduation is the best moment to express our gratitude (感激) for those who helped us. I would like to thank my best friend.”
Then, he began to talk about how we had known each other. My eyes widened in surprise. Until that moment I knew that day many years ago, he planned to leave the school because he didn’t have any friends at school and felt very lonely. He said he had carried all his books home, so that he didn’t need to come back to school. Having said that, he looked at me with a smile on his face and went on, “However, I was so lucky that I had a friend from that day on.”

(24-25八年级上·广西南宁·期末)My name is Martin Kelly. I work for an English newspaper. I was lively when I was young. I always ran around and I got hurt almost every day, so my mom was always worried about me. To keep me quiet, my mom asked me to read books. Every day, she made me sit on a chair and read for an hour. I hated it and cried a lot. Then, my uncle, a teacher, helped me get out of the trouble. He brought me many books and told me to pick one and read just the first twenty pages. “If you’re still bored after that, just put it down and pick another one,” he said.
The first book I read by myself was The Enormous Crocodile (《巨大的鳄鱼》). After twenty pages, I rolled (滚动) on the floor and laughed. This crocodile wants to eat children for a change, so he makes himself look like a seesaw (跷跷板) on a playground. Next, I read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Both stories were exciting. They were also easy for young children to understand.
As time went on, I started reading longer and more serious books. I read Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and it was too fantastic to put down. My mom even suggested I should spend more time playing outside while I was reading the book. She thought I changed a lot. It’s true and I really enjoy myself in reading now.
To this day, I make time to read every day. Reading gives me enjoyment, teaches me something new, and even changes my life. If you never get the happiness from reading, take my uncle’s advice and find the “right” books.

During this year’s summer holiday, I flew from Beijing to London, UK.
When I arrived in London, I felt nervous by the seven-hour time difference, the new language, the buildings and the people at the train station. Everything was so different. It made me worried about my short stay there.
I joined a girls’ middle school and learned many new things there over the course of five days. I felt lonely and helpless at first because my vocabulary (词汇) was poor. Although my learning partner was really friendly, I just couldn’t relax.
This feeling continued until a PE class changed everything. Some girls smiled and invited me to join their baseball game. Even though I had never played baseball before, I decided to give it a try and managed to hit the ball on my first try. At that moment, time seemed to stop, and then cheers broke out all around me. The other girls hugged me and shouted, “Hey, Eileen, you did an amazing job!” From then on, I felt truly happy and relaxed, and I really began to fit in with others.
That experience helped me see the bridge between London and my hometown, Tianjin -a bridge built with care and love. We may not come from the same country or have the same skin color, but love brings us all together. This lesson continues to hold great importance in my life.

(24-25八年级上·重庆忠县·期末)I went to visit my grandfather in a small town near London. On a cold morning, my friend Peter invited me to a famous coffee shop. When we enjoyed our coffee, a tall man with a pair of glasses came in and sat down next to us. He called the waiter and ordered, “Two cups of coffee, and one of them there on the wall.” We saw that he drank one cup of coffee but he paid for two. After he left, the waiter quickly put a piece of paper on the wall saying “A cup of coffee”. While we were still there, two other women had two cups of coffee but paid for three. Again, the waiter did the same thing. It seemed that this was common at this place. However, it was something strange for us.
About 30 minutes later, an old man came in. The way this man dressed didn’t match the style of this coffee shop. He looked thin and poor. When he sat down, he looked at the wall and said, “One cup of coffee from that wall.” The waiter served coffee to this man, showing him the same respect (尊重) as the other customers. The man had his coffee and left without paying. The waiter took off a piece of paper from the wall and threw it into the dustbin.
After that, I knew anybody could take a cup of coffee from that wall if he wanted. He didn’t have to lose face to ask for a free cup of coffee. Without asking or knowing who was giving him this cup of coffee, he only looked at the wall, ordered, enjoyed coffee and left.
