常言道:语言架起沟通的桥梁。“语言这个东西,不是随便可以学好的,非下苦功不可。”作者通过举例英语中生动鲜活的词语,用风趣幽默的语言讲解英语的“不解之处”,娓娓道来,令人心服口服。英语学习过程中陷阱多多,但神奇之处不断,有时也让人百思不得其解,这或许就是语言的约定俗成吧。总之,在语言学习的道路上,来往“行人”可要多多注意哦!
Exploring English
Have you ever asked yourself why people often have trouble learning English I hadn't, until one day my five year old son asked me whether there was ham in a hamburger. There isn't. This made me realize that there's no egg in eggplant either. This got me thinking how English can be a crazy language to learn.
For example, in our free time we can sculpt a sculpture and paint a painting, but we take a photo. And when we are traveling we say that we are in the car or the taxi, but on the train or bus! , we can get seasick at sea, airsick in the air and carsick in a car, but we don't get homesick when we get back home. And speaking of home, why aren't homework and housework the same thing
If “hard” is the opposite of “soft”, why are “hardly” and “softly” not an opposing pair If harmless actions are the opposite of harmful actions, why are shameless and shameful behaviors the same
When we look out of the window and see rain or snow, we can say “it's raining” or “it's snowing”. But when we see sunshine, we can't say “it's sunshining”.
Even the smallest words can be confusing. When you see the capitalized “WHO” in a medical report, do you read it as the “who” in “Who's that?”
You also have to wonder at the unique madness of a language in which a house can burn up as it
English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race. , but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And that is why when I wind up my watch, it starts, but when I wind up this passage, it ends.

Having moved to a new city, I was looking for things to do in my spare time. I intended to meet new people, for I am a social person. Hearing that the Business Confucius Institute (BCI) was offering Chinese evening classes on the university campus, I was determined to sign up for Level 1 class.
This initial (最初的) decision was made on a whim. I had no grand career goals or plans to travel to China in the near future. Learning a new language was the fact that it was not something I had done before. My mother is from Spain and I was raised with two languages, but there is a huge difference between acquiring a language in childhood and learning one in adulthood. I expected to find out how I would get along with Chinese.
In each class my Chinese teacher would teach us what seemed like thousands of new words and expressions, and then get us to act them out in role plays reproducing basic Chinese introductions and conversations. After each lesson I felt as though my brain had been placed in a deep oil pot for a long time. But then, I began to realize that the more my brain ached right after class, the more information I had taken in.
I found that Chinese words and expressions we had covered would rush unexpectedly into my head at any moment, such as when I was in the shower or driving to work. I have now completed the Business Confucius Level 3 class and am able to hold basic conversations with Chinese people on a variety of topics.
This experience helped me a lot.Recently I landed a new job at the University of Leeds' School of Law, providing job opportunities for Chinese students. Learning Chinese will help me in my career, further fuelling my motivation to continue my studies.

B.He enjoyed the Chinese classes a lot.
C.He was troubled by those Chinese words.
D.He made great progress in learning Chinese.

Ⅱ.阅读七选五
English is one of the most difficult languages to master. Even if you might not yet sound like someone born and raised speaking the language, you should still congratulate yourself on how far you've come. Remember that practice makes perfect. So keep working at it and your skill level will certainly improve.
Create an English environment for yourself. 8 The more you hear the language, the better you'll understand how and when to use common words and phrases and how the language is pronounced.
Practise speaking English every chance you get, whether at school, at work or speaking to family and friends. When you speak in your native language, ask yourself, “How would I say that in English?”
Watch yourself speak English in the mirror. 9 And practise changing anything you don't like. If you're uncomfortable making up things to say to yourself, just read your lessons aloud.
Use confident body language while you speak English. Even if you're having trouble pronouncing words or remembering phrases, don't keep your head down. Speak in a natural, conversational tone (语气); keep your back and head straight, and your chin (下巴) up. If you're in a relaxed setting, put your hands behind your head and put your feet up. 10
Find a friend who speaks fluent English and wants to learn your language. 11 Increase your confidence by knowing you have something valuable to teach, as well as something to learn.
12 Instead of saying “I'm not good at this,” say “Every day I'm getting better.”
A.Take turns to teach each other.
B.Train your body into feeling in control.
C.Speak English confidently.
D.Learning a language requires long hours of study and practice.
E.Get comfortable with the way you look speaking the language.
F.Read books, watch television shows, movies and plays in English.
G.Improve your confidence by teaching those worse at English than you.
语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了提高自己的英语能力的一些方法。
8.选F 根据上一句“Create an English environment for yourself. (为你自己创造一个英语环境。)”可知,F项“Read books, watch television shows, movies and plays in English.(读英语书、看英语电视节目、看英语电影和戏剧。)”承接上文,符合题意。
9.选E 根据段落首句“Watch yourself speak English in the mirror. (在镜子里观看自己说英语。)”和空格下一句“And practise changing anything you don't like.(练习改变任何你不喜欢的东西。)”可知,E项“Get comfortable with the way you look speaking the language.(适应你说这种语言的样子。)”符合题意。
10.选B 根据上一句“If you're in a relaxed setting, put your hands behind your head and put your feet up.(如果你在一个轻松的环境,把你的手放在头后面,把你的脚抬起来。)”可知,B项“Train your body into feeling in control.(训练你的身体,让它在你的控制之中。)”符合语境。
11.选A 根据上一句“Find a friend who speaks fluent English and wants to learn your language.(找一个英语说得很流利并且想学你的语言的朋友。)”和空格下一句“通过知道你有一些要教的有价值的东西,还有要学的东西,会增加你的信心。”可知,A项“要轮流着互相教。”符合语境。
12.选C 根据下文“Instead of saying ‘I'm not good at this,’ say ‘Every day I'm getting better.’”可知,C项“自信地说英语。”符合语境。UNIT 5 课时检测(二) “Reading and Thinking”的课文习读环节

A.Deep love. B.Careful thought.
