Text 1
W: Your room looks different. Have you got a new desk
M: No, I’ve just moved it. I was getting too hot sitting under the window, so I put it over there opposite the door.
Text 2
W: Just have a rest, man. You have been working here for two hours.
M: I’d like to, but I’m busy making a plan for the new restaurant. I have to hand it in to our boss today.
Text 3
M: I was thinking of having a holiday during the first half of September, but we can’t all be away at the same time.
W: Don’t worry. I will go in August and Mike in July. You take the weeks you wanted.
Text 4
W: Now, Mr Smith, you’ve just been operated on your stomach. Maybe you want to have a rest lying on the bed or sit still. But the best thing you should do is to get up and walk around right now.
M: OK! I’ll do it, Mrs Black.
Text 5
W: Was the school bus delayed again
M: Well, someone said it was, but I wasn’t on it. I wanted to ride my bike this morning, but its brakes didn’t work. In the end, my dad had to drive me.
Text 6
W: I’m trying a new workout and diet. I’ve increased my running and only eat chicken.
M: So you don’t eat beef or fish
W: No, I don’t. Just chicken. And I’m only drinking water.
M: So you can’t have coffee or juice
W: It is meant to clean my body. I know it sounds awful.
M: It does not sound enjoyable. I like different foods for different tastes.
W: So do I, but if I want to lose weight, I shouldn’t try different things.
M: Then I will try and support you with it by not eating beef.
Text 7
W: Hello, I’m calling about the dining table that you're selling. I noticed an advertisement online this morning. Is it still available
M: Hi, yes, it is! I’m leaving my current apartment this weekend, and my new one is a lot smaller. I just won’t have enough space for it.
W: That’s a shame. I’m definitely interested in buying it, but would you mind holding on to it for a few days I'd like to take a look at it later this week.
M: Well, I’ve had calls all morning. And as I mentioned in the ad, I’d like to find a buyer before Friday.
W: Oh, I understand. In that case, I’ll try to go over to your place with my friend this afternoon. Would you mind giving me your address
Text 8
M: Hey, Jill. You’re a member of the debate club, right
W: Yeah. Did you see the debate between Clare and Mark last night
M: That’s what I was just about to ask you. It was such a heated debate.
W: I know. I found Clare’s performance surprising because she’s always shy and quiet in our class.
M: You said it. She just looks like a shining star when she’s in a debate.
W: Exactly. Debating is a lot like acting in a theatre. You not only need to remember some difficult facts and figures, but also know when to say them.
M: I agree. Do you know if someone filmed the debate Kevin was off sick and went to see the doctor yesterday, but I’m sure he’d love to see it.
W: Maybe you can ask Sarah for that. She recorded it on her phone.
M: Great. Do you know where she is right now
W: Yes. She’s the captain of the women’s basketball team. They are in the gym practising just now.
Text 9
W: Hey, John, can I talk to you for a minute
M: Hi, Linda. Sure, what’s up
W: I wanted to let you know about a book club I joined a couple months ago. I know you do a lot of reading, so I thought you might want to come with me next month.
M: Oh, that sounds like fun. When does the group meet
W: Usually the last Saturday of the month at 9:30 in the evening. Is that too late for you
M: No, I think that’s OK. What do you talk about in the group
W: Well, every month we choose a new book, and then during the next meeting we discuss it.
M: What book are you reading now
W: The Kite Runner.
M: I’ve heard that’s a good book. What’s it about
W: It is a good book. I’m almost finished. The book is about a boy who grew up in Afghanistan during the 1980s. It’s called The Kite Runner because the main character takes part in a kite flying competition.
M: That sounds really interesting. I’d love to come.
W: OK, great. The next meeting isn’t for another two weeks, so you still have time to read the book.

A
根据第二段“Gibala’s eight fundamental interval workouts and four micro-workouts can be used as an alternative to quickly increase strength and endurance in hardly any time! It’s considered to be one of the best fitness books for beginners!” 故选A项。
根据第四段“I’ve had many runners who recommend this book themselves when I ask for favourites.”
根据最后一段“It’s a top resource for staying healthy and injury-free!”
根据第一段“However, in less than a month, I was fed up with pool laps and no sights.”
根据第三段“It took me many months to become smooth in the style.”
根据第五段“As the only man among twenty-nine students in the tap dancing class, I learned that grandmothers are programmed to care for any wounded creature. Some paid particular attention to this seventy-five-year-old patient, staying after class to guide and inspire. With examples, humour, encouragement and advice, they taught me tap dance. They cured my flopping foot.”
根据第一段“But how do you live without the adrenaline (肾上腺素) of racing ”、第三段“I took to this sport immediately.”、第四段“I turned off the TV and went to the Senior Centre.”及最后一段“And now, at eighty-six, I’m still competing and often thinking of those ladies.”
根据第二段中的“After scolding her, you blame your wife for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows.”
故选A项。
根据“You severely scold your daughter and she breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you blame your wife for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows.”
根据第一段“10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react.”
根据文章第五段“‘In the Swedish May inflation numbers, hotel prices rose more than what is usual for May,’ said Filip Andersson, from Danske Bank. Hotels in the Stockholm region were reportedly fully booked the weeks around the event and prices thus skyrocketed. Due to a third of Sweden’s hotel rooms being in the nation’s capital, prices rose dramatically on a national scale.”(丹斯克银行的菲利普·安德森表示:“在瑞典5月份的通胀数据中,酒店价格上涨幅度超过了5月份的正常水平。”
根据文章第三段“‘One of the things that struck me as odd is that acquiring tickets for these concerts nowadays means people have to tighten their belt for a while,’ he said.”(“让我感到奇怪的事之一是,现在买这些音乐会的票意味着人们不得不在一段时间内勒紧裤腰带,”他说。)和第四段“‘And a concert trip doesn’t end with a single ticket. It’s also related to Coca-Cola or hot dogs, the prices of which are always hiked up when shows take place, let alone the accommodation,’ he explained.”(“音乐会之旅不会以一张票结束。这也与可口可乐或热狗有关,有演出时,这些东西的价格就会上涨,更不用说住宿了,”他解释道。)可知,克劳斯·巴德尔感到惊讶的是参加音乐会的总费用很高。故选C项。
34.A 推理判断题。根据文章第六段“Economists have nicknamed the phenomenon:‘tourflation’, which has stimulated analysts to give a lot of thought to the upswing. ‘The concert market is booming. Understandably, this relates to supply and demand forces—consumers are most interested in making up for their time lost during the previous lockdowns,’ Baader explained.”(经济学家给这种现象起了个绰号:“巡演通货膨胀”,这促使分析人士对经济的回升进行了大量思考。“演唱会市场正在蓬勃发展。可以理解的是,这与供需力量有关——消费者最感兴趣的是弥补他们在之前的封锁期间损失的时间,”巴德尔解释说。)可知,克劳斯·巴德尔在第六段想要解释这种巡演通货膨胀背后的潜在因素。故选A项。
分析全文内容可知,文章主要介绍了通货膨胀与音乐会的关系,再根据文章最后一段“The impact of concerts on inflation might be short-lived. In Sweden’s case, Andersson believes the normalization of inflation levels will occur later after the concert.”(音乐会对通货膨胀的影响可能是短暂的。 故选A项。

In the competition, Emily found herself facing a strong opponent, Lily. Lily was known for her exceptional skills and had won numerous championships. With each precise shot and swift movement, Emily surprised everyone, including Lily. It was a fierce battle. Finally, with a powerful serve, Emily sent the ball flying across the table(现在分词作定语). It glanced off the edge and landed on the opponent’s side, securing her victory(现在分词作状语).
After the competition, Emily’s story spread throughout the table tennis community. She became an inspiration to other players, especially those born with defects(过去分词作定语). More and more players joined the team where she was training(定语从句). And her coach was proud of her. When training new students(状语从句的省略), he always used Emily as a good example. “Emily’s story teaches us that limitations can serve as a stepping stone to greatness(宾语从句). It reminds us not to let others define our potential. With an adaptive spirit, we can achieve anything we set our hearts on(定语从句), just like Emily did in the world of table tennis.”

If you’re looking to enhance your fitness journey, here are some must-reads.
The One-Minute Workout by Martin Gibala
For many of us, the problem is not to improve a workout, but to find time to exercise at all. Gibala’s eight fundamental interval workouts and four micro-workouts can be used as an alternative to quickly increase strength and endurance in hardly any time! It’s considered to be one of the best fitness books for beginners!
The Champion’s Mind by Jim Afremow
In his book, sports psychologist Jim Afremow, PhD, talks about how to stick to goals and keep yourself challenged over time. Though written with athletes in mind, this book would inspire anyone to approach their long-term goals.
How Bad Do You Want It by Matt Fitzgerald
This book is a great look into the attitude it takes to truly push yourself to those ultimate limits. I’ve had many runners who recommend this book themselves when I ask for favourites. I think it’s just a book that helps you figure out how to dig deep and what’s happening when you feel like stopping.
Becoming a Supple Leopard by Glen Cordoza
The book features hundreds of step-by-step photos for popular exercises like squats and kettlebell swings, pointing out common mistakes. It’s a top resource for staying healthy and injury-free!

After years of pounding my knees and ankles in dashes and the long jump, pain ended my decades of track and field competition. But how do you live without the adrenaline (肾上腺素) of racing That’s simple. You just become sensible at age sixty and turn to competitive swimming! Suddenly, the pounding was gone, and so was the pain. However, in less than a month, I was fed up with pool laps and no sights.
A friend in the Annapolis Striders had the answer. This marathoner said he had stayed fit by intense walking while healing from a running injury. “Try it,” he said. “It’s even a competitive sport.” Sure enough, a certain kind of energetic walking is a 100-year-old Olympic event called racewalking.
I took to this sport immediately. I didn’t have to enter races to be a racewalker. However, those who compete must follow rules and must please numerous hard-eyed judges or be disqualified (DQ). But for me, doing it was enough. It took me many months to become smooth in the style. I had lost a sport but had found another.
Then came a disaster. Lower back pain had arrived. “Surgery is a last solution,” I was told. Dr Clifford Solomon, super-surgeon of Annapolis, Maryland, had the cure. It left me with full leg control, but a flopping (耷拉的) foot. I would be able to jog, but not meet racewalking rules. By chance I tuned the TV to an old movie showing Fred Astaire dancing up a storm. From the ankle down, his feet swiveled (旋转) in the very motion I needed. I turned off the TV and went to the Senior Centre.
As the only man among twenty-nine students in the tap dancing class, I learned that grandmothers are programmed to care for any wounded creature. Some paid particular attention to this seventy-five-year-old patient, staying after class to guide and inspire. With examples, humour, encouragement and advice, they taught me tap dance. They cured my flopping foot.
Within a year, I was competing well enough to enter the USA Track and Field Nationals in Boston and break the American record for the 3,000- metre racewalking. And now, at eighty-six, I’m still competing and often thinking of those ladies.

Have you read this before 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. That is the 90/10 Principle. You really have no control over 10% of what happens to us, but you determine the other 90%.
Let’s use an example. You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You severely scold your daughter and she breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you blame your wife for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt.
Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and she misses the bus. You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at the school and your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye.
After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home, yet when you arrive home, you find a small wedge in your relationship with your wife and daughter.
Why did you have a bad day Did the coffee cause it Did your daughter cause it
Here is what could have and should have happened.
Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, “It’s OK, honey. You just need to be more careful next time.” Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.
Notice the difference Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different.

A.The mother gets to work late.
B.The couple have an argument.
C.The father has a traffic accident.
D.The daughter finishes breakfast soon.
( )29.Why does the author use the example
A.To prove the 90/10 Principle.
B.To compare different attitudes.
C.To give advice on self-control.
D.To show the importance of harmony.
( )30.What does the underlined word “wedge” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Improvement. B.Wound.
C.Disadvantage. D.Change.
( )31.According to the text, what leads to the different endings
A.Your coffee. B.Your family.
C.Your experience. D.Your reaction.

Inflation (通货膨胀) is the word on everyone’s lips, as our coffers (金库) take a hit and prices seem to rise constantly.
Meanwhile, inflation remains stubbornly high in many developed economies despite the interest rate rises designed to bring prices down. The latest figures for the UK came in above expectations at 8.7% on an annual basis, while the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) for May rose by 4% from the previous year. Some economists have found themselves considering a surprising potential contributor: music concerts. But what do concerts and the economy have to do with one another
From top singers to famous bands, Klaus Baader, global chief economist at Societe Generale, has tickets to see various artists this year. “One of the things that struck me as odd is that acquiring tickets for these concerts nowadays means people have to tighten their belt for a while,” he said.
“And a concert trip doesn’t end with a single ticket. It’s also related to Coca-Cola or hot dogs, the prices of which are always hiked up when shows take place, let alone the accommodation,” he explained.
Take the Renaissance World Tour by a famous American singer-songwriter whose first stop was in Stockholm in May as an example. “In the Swedish May inflation numbers, hotel prices rose more than what is usual for May,” said Filip Andersson, from Danske Bank. Hotels in the Stockholm region were reportedly fully booked the weeks around the event and prices thus skyrocketed. Due to a third of Sweden’s hotel rooms being in the nation’s capital, prices rose dramatically on a national scale.
Economists have nicknamed the phenomenon: “tourflation”, which has stimulated analysts to give a lot of thought to the upswing. “The concert market is booming. Understandably, this relates to supply and demand forces—consumers are most interested in making up for their time lost during the previous lockdowns,” Baader explained. He also pointed to changes in how musicians make a profit. “Artists’ models have changed from making money by selling CDs towards earning revenues mostly from concerts,” Baader added.
The impact of concerts on inflation might be short-lived. In Sweden’s case, Andersson believes the normalization of inflation levels will occur later after the concert.
( )32.What can be concluded about the recent inflation
A.High CPI is to blame for it.
B.It has greatly impacted everyone’s life.
C.The UK has suffered more than the USA.
D.It has been approached with higher interest rates.
( )33.What was Klaus Baader astonished by
A.The lack of availability of concert tickets.
B.The popularity of top singers and famous bands.
C.The overall high expenses for attending concerts.
D.The variety of artists holding concerts.
( )34.What does Klaus Baader aim to explain in the sixth paragraph
A.The underlying factors behind such tourflation.
B.The reasons why economists nickname the phenomenon.
C.The impacts of previous lockdowns on the concert market.
D.The imbalance between supply and demand in the music industry.
( )35.Which of the following could be the best title of the text
A.Concerts is fueling inflation
B.Living with high CPI
C.The musicians’ spring is coming
D.The medicine for tourism

In a small town, there lived a young girl named Emily. She had a deep passion for table tennis and dreamed of becoming a professional player. Despite her young age, she was determined to work hard and make her dream come true.
From the moment when Emily picked up a table tennis paddle, she was impressed by the sport. She spent every spare moment practising her shots, focusing on her footwork and mastering different techniques. Each time she stepped on the court, she was eager to improve and pushed herself to the limit. Unluckily, Emily faced a visual impairment (缺陷) that threatened to slow her progress. She was born with a condition that affected her sight. Some people doubted her ability to play table tennis and said, “Emily, your impairment is a disadvantage. It is impossible for you to play table tennis well!”
But Emily refused to let their doubts consume her. With solid determination, Emily turned her impairment into strength. She used her other heightened senses to her advantage, relying on touch and sound to anticipate her opponents’ moves. While others relied on sight, she developed an incredible sense of intuition (直觉) and strategy.
Emily finally excelled in table tennis, achieving incredible milestones and representing her town in many competitions. Becoming an advocate of the sport in her town, Emily decided not to settle for winning in her comfort zone but to challenge for something higher. She joined a training team guided by a world-class coach, which brought together the world’s top table tennis players.
In the training team, Emily went through a series of trials. She carried out high-intensity training. She needed to improve not only the batting skills but also perseverance and the sense of teamwork. Her coach often encouraged her and said, “Anyone, regardless of ability, could find success.”
A few years later, Emily’s efforts paid off. She got her chance. As a member of the national team, she took part in an important international competition. That was the stage for her to show her skills, and it was also the important moment for her to realize her dream.
Paragraph 1:
In the competition, Emily found herself facing a strong opponent, Lily.
