Text 1
W: It’s surprising that Frank comes out of the accident alive.
M: That’s true. His car was a total loss, you know.
Text 2
W: I’m really fed up with the computer. It had another system failure today.
M: I’d better get someone to fix it as soon as possible.
Text 3
M: My chest hurts, and I’m having a hard time breathing. Maybe I should take some aspirin.
W: Come on, honey. I’m driving you to the hospital. You need to get checked out right away.
Text 4
M: Could you come to our evening party tomorrow
W: I’d like to. But it’s a great pity that I have something more important to do then.
Text 5
W: Can I use your car I’m going to pick up my parents at the train station.
M: All right. Here is the key.
Text 6
W: Excuse me, do you know where the owner of this car is I seemed to have scratched their car.
M: This red Toyota here They just left. I think I saw them heading towards the grocery store. Did you back into it carelessly
W: I opened the door to put my bags in the back, and my shopping cart rolled down the hill into the red Toyota.
M: That’s unfortunate. Too bad that the car wasn’t black like mine. You wouldn’t even be able to see the scratch on my car.
W: I’d better leave them a note, anyway. They can decide whether or not to do anything about it.
Text 7
M: Hi, Kate! Why are you dancing I thought we had to study for our maths test!
W: Oh, hi, Bill! I was just exercising. It’s my favourite way to get relaxed. I thought you would arrive later. Let me turn the music off.
M: OK. When it comes to exercise, I prefer playing soccer.
W: Sports like jogging and playing balls are good ways, but I'd like to dance better. Do you sometimes do it
M: Yes, but I am not a good dancer. Oh, my team won the final last week.
W: Cool! I know you go to the gym to practise every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
M: You’re right. It’s hard work, but it is worth doing.
W: I see. If it weren’t for the maths test tomorrow we could hang out right now.
M: Right. No more fun and games. Let me get my notebook.
Text 8
W: Peter, what things do you enjoy spending money on
M: Well, I’m a big football fan. So when I don’t have much schoolwork, I watch matches. What I really like spending money on is the ticket for football matches.
W: What do you think teenagers in your country spend their money on
M: I think it really depends. I guess girls spend more money on clothes and magazines while boys spend money on music and things like football matches. In general, though, I think both boys and girls spend a lot of money just on going out to places and having a good time.
W: Do you have a favourite shop
M: I’m not interested in shopping, actually. But there is a shop I really enjoy going to. It’s a sports shop and what I really like about it is just to wander round and see all the clothes and equipment they sell. I can’t afford them. They are expensive.
W: What’s shopping like in the area where you live
M: I guess the shopping must be pretty good, because my mum and dad do all the shopping nearby. They always say it has fresh vegetables and good food.
Text 9
W: It was a great day today.
M: Yes. I wish I had gone to the park with you by subway, though. There were so many traffic jams this morning, and I thought the bus would never get there on time.
W: Well, you did make it.
M: What did you think of the restaurant
W: Well, it was much better than I expected.
M: Do you think so It was a bit small and airless there. Anyway, this afternoon was great. I loved the film. That was the most exciting part of the trip for me.
W: I couldn’t agree more. I enjoyed the tour afterwards almost as much. You know, when we went around that exhibition of musical instruments from the past, the guide was really good. I was just sorry we didn’t have the chance to go to the top floor of the museum.
M: Me too. How about going back there during the holidays
W: I’d like to, but I’m going to be very busy catching up with my papers. I’d really rather wait till after the holidays.
M: Okay.
Text 10
M: Hello, this is Principal Johnson with the morning announcements. Our usual reader Timmy is out sick today, so I’m reading in his place. I hope you’ve all had a great start to the week! This Monday has started out warm and sunny, so let’s hope it stays that way. I know we’ve had some strange weather in the last few weeks. We have just one month of school left before summer break, so make sure you’ve turned in all of your homework. The last day to turn in an assignment is Friday, May 20th. The last boys’ baseball game will be held at 6:00 pm this Wednesday. Please show up to support the team! If you’ve had problems using the computers in the library, they should be fixed by Thursday. We’re sorry for any trouble this may have caused. This evening, the girls’ softball team will be playing their last game, and over the weekend, the basketball team is playing McKinney School on Saturday afternoon. That’s it for the morning announcements. I hope everyone has a great Monday!
A
根据Busch Gardens Tampa Bay部分的句子“Home to over 50 attractions, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is an animal-focused theme park with an emphasis on keeping rare animals.” 故选A项。
根据Magic Kingdom Park部分的句子“Today, Magic Kingdom Park bridges the old with the new, inviting guests to relive the tales of childhood and enjoy beloved attractions, like Pirates of the Caribbean.”
根据Universal Studios Florida部分的句子“This is also where kids can find The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—Diagon Alley, one of the most impressive theme parks ever built.”
根据第一段中“Wendell Berry was almost 30 when he packed up his life as a New York intellectual (知识分子) and moved to Port Royal, a tiny community in Kentucky where generations of his forebears (祖先) had farmed the land. His friends thought he was mad.”
根据第三段中“In Mr Berry’s opinion, humans must take care of the earth that grants them life. ‘The soil is the greatest connector of lives,’ he has written. ‘Without proper care for it we can have no community.’ This philosophy dominates his writings.”
根据第四段中“…Andy Catlett loses a hand to a harvesting machine and becomes a loner. He sees his withdrawal is mistaken and reconnects with the town, finding ‘the wealth of an intimate history’ in belonging to ‘his ancestral place’.”和“…the main character Hannah Coulter grows old after a sad life and anticipates loneliness when her children leave to find work in the city. Instead her hope is restored when her grandson returns to run the farm.”
根据第二段中“Since moving to Port Royal in 1964, he has lived as if he were in the 19th century, writing by hand and ploughing (犁) his fields with horses.” 、第三段中“In The Unsettling of America, published in 1977, Mr Berry criticized the natural damage caused by large agribusinesses. He thinks capitalism has separated farming from culture and disconnected people from nature.”和最后一段中“Though few can return to farming basics, Mr Berry’s messages of building communities, being a good neighbour and resisting the invitation of modern life are still valuable.”
根据第一段“‘Tie an Italian’s hands behind his back, and he’ll be speechless.’ This old joke conveys a rigid image of Italians: they are talkative and emotional, and all their arm movements supposedly go to prove it.”(“把意大利人的手绑在背后,他会哑口无言。” 、第二段中的“Susan Goldin-Meadow of the University of Chicago has a rather different view.” 和“But people are doing something different when they use gestures with speech…”(但是,当人们在说话时使用手势时,他们的行为是不同的……)
根据第三段中“People who say they believe in gender equality but gesture with their hands lower are not indicating women’s shorter height; they can be shown to have prejudices of which they may not be aware.”
根据画线部分的上文“Some students who fail at a difficult mathematics problem may gesture in a way that indicates they are on the point of understanding it. They should be taught differently from…”(一些在数学难题上失败的学生可能会用手势表示他们正处于理解的阶段。
根据最后一段中“Teachers are encouraged both to use gestures themselves and to observe those their students make. Parents are taught to fill in the word a child is most likely to be missing when they gesture rather than adding information.”(老师们被鼓励自己使用手势,并观察学生的手势。 和“Those who gesture less are more likely to need early intervention.” 故选A项。
D
根据第一段中“Now, an AI has shown it can label people based on their chess-playing behaviour, an advance in the field of ‘stylometrics’ that could help computers be better chess teachers or more humanlike in their game play.”(如今,一种人工智能表明,它还能根据人们的下棋行为对人们进行标签分类,这是“风格测定学”领域的一项进步,有助于计算机成为更优秀的国际象棋教师或在下棋中表现得更加人性化。)
根据第二段中“But Ashton Anderson, a computer scientist at the University of Toronto, says the chess engines play almost an ‘alien (外星人的) style’ that isn’t very instructive for those seeking to learn or improve their skills.”(但多伦多大学的计算机科学家Ashton Anderson表示,国际象棋引擎几乎是一种“外星人风格”,对于那些寻求学习或提高技能的人来说,这并不是很有指导意义。) 故选A。
通读第三段,尤其由第三段中“To design and train their AI, the researchers collected more than 50 million human games and fed them into a network. The researchers tested the system by seeing how well it distinguished one player from another. They gave the system 100 games from each of about 3,000 known players, and 100 fresh games from an unknown player. The system looked for the best match and identified the unknown player 86% of the time, the researchers reported last month at the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS).”[为了设计和训练他们的人工智能,研究人员收集了超过5000万场人类棋局,并将这些数据输入网络。
根据最后一段“NeurIPS organizers found the study technically impressive but ethically (道德上) questionable, and accepted it on condition that the researchers detail the privacy risks. Anderson says they’ve decided, for now, not to release the software.”(NeurIPS的组织者认为这项研究在技术上令人印象深刻,但在道德上有问题,并在研究人员详细说明隐私风险的条件下接受了这项研究。 故选A。

38.D 上文“There is evidence to suggest that reducing your sugar level can have a positive impact on your skin’s condition.”
39.A 下文“Sugar is a source of energy and is found in fruit, which has fibre and other key nutrition that are beneficial to a healthy body.” 故选A项。
40.F 下文“…targeted skin care can also relieve the damaging effects.”

One possible version:
Dear Alan,
Knowing that you are interested in our Campus Farm, I’m writing in delight to offer my warmest welcome and a brief introduction.
Our Campus Farm, which covers less than half an acre, aims to offer a combination of hands-on training and engaging classrooms to both students and staff. Each class is assigned a certain patch of land. Students can design, plant and harvest all by themselves on the land. What are more noticeable on the farm are the two greenhouses that are available for experiments and training programmes, exposing students to an inviting atmosphere for learning.
I bet you’d be amazed at it and I can’t wait to show you around!
Yours,
Li Hua

One possible version:
As I walked Emma to the school bus, I put the lunchbox into her hands and told her it was special once again. “You carry this with pride, honey. It’s a symbol of our love for the earth and our responsibility to take care of it(不定式作定语).” She nodded, a determined look on her young face. As the bus drove away(时间状语从句), I stood there, hoping and praying (现在分词作状语) that she would truly grasp the significance of our family tradition and the impact it could have on our planet(定语从句).
Later that evening, I heard Emma’s excited voice in the kitchen. “Mum, I did it! I washed the lunchbox and brought it home like you said.” With her eyes shining with pride and a sense of accomplishment(with复合结构), I hugged her tightly and said, “You’ve done an amazing job, Emma. Four theme parks in Florida

Wendell Berry was almost 30 when he packed up his life as a New York intellectual (知识分子) and moved to Port Royal, a tiny community in Kentucky where generations of his forebears (祖先) had farmed the land. His friends thought he was mad. But he felt it was his inner calling to record the history of the place.
Since moving to Port Royal in 1964, he has lived as if he were in the 19th century, writing by hand and ploughing (犁) his fields with horses. His eight novels and more than 50 short stories are usually set in Port William, a stand-in (代替物) for Port Royal. Nick Offerman, an actor, wanted to adapt his work for the screen. However, the actor was refused.
In Mr Berry’s opinion, humans must take care of the earth that grants them life. “The soil is the greatest connector of lives,” he has written. “Without proper care for it we can have no community.” This philosophy dominates his writings. In The Unsettling of America, published in 1977, Mr Berry criticized the natural damage caused by large agribusinesses. He thinks capitalism has separated farming from culture and disconnected people from nature.
Mr Berry’s fiction explores the decline of values by following Port William’s interconnected clans (家族) as they enter the modern age. In Dismemberment, a short story, Andy Catlett loses a hand to a harvesting machine and becomes a loner. He sees his withdrawal is mistaken and reconnects with the town, finding “the wealth of an intimate history” in belonging to “his ancestral place”. In Hannah Coulter, Mr Berry’s seventh novel, the main character Hannah Coulter grows old after a sad life and anticipates loneliness when her children leave to find work in the city. Instead her hope is restored when her grandson returns to run the farm.
These stories offer insightful advice to readers living through ecological disasters. Though few can return to farming basics, Mr Berry’s messages of building communities, being a good neighbour and resisting the invitation of modern life are still valuable.

“Tie an Italian’s hands behind his back, and he’ll be speechless.” This old joke conveys a rigid image of Italians: they are talkative and emotional, and all their arm movements supposedly go to prove it.
Susan Goldin-Meadow of the University of Chicago has a rather different view. Emotions come out in lots of ways: facial expressions, postures, tones of voice and so on. But people are doing something different when they use gestures with speech, which she sums up in the title of her new book, Thinking With Your Hands.
In fact, everyone gestures, not just Italians. Conference interpreters gesture in their little rooms, though no one is looking. People born blind gesture when they speak, including to each other. All this suggests that cognition (认知) is, to some extent, “embodied”(具体化); thinking is not all done in your head. Gestures that accompany speech are a second channel of information. People who say they believe in gender equality but gesture with their hands lower are not indicating women’s shorter height; they can be shown to have prejudices of which they may not be aware.
Child development is the focus of Goldin-Meadow’s book. Some students who fail at a difficult mathematics problem may gesture in a way that indicates they are on the point of understanding it. They should be taught differently from the ones whose gestures suggest that they are entirely at sea. Goldin-Meadow believes that gesturing could play a larger role in education by addressing the student’s needs better.
This is well explained in the book’s last section. Teachers are encouraged both to use gestures themselves and to observe those their students make. Parents are taught to fill in the word a child is most likely to be missing when they gesture rather than adding information. Children with language delays caused by brain injuries at birth, but who gesture as much as their peers, are likely to catch up verbally by the age of about 30 months. Those who gesture less are more likely to need early intervention.
( )28.Why is the joke mentioned in the first paragraph
A.To show that Italians are talkative and emotional.
B.To set a humorous tone for this article.
C.To illustrate the relationship between gestures and speech.
D.To correct people’s wrong impression of Italians.
( )29.What does the author want to say by mentioning people talking about gender equality
A.People’s gestures show the meaning of people’s speech.
B.Gestures help the speaker tell lies more easily.
C.People use gestures to hide their real intentions.
D.Gestures can express what the speaker really thinks.
( )30.What do the underlined words “at sea” mean in Paragraph 4
A.Nervous. B.Confused.
C.Incapable. D.Frightened.
( )31.What does Goldin-Meadow offer in the last section of her book
A.Practical advice. B.Educational theory.
C.Reliable proofs. D.Research conclusions.

AI software can already identify people by their voices or handwriting. Now, an AI has shown it can label people based on their chess-playing behaviour, an advance in the field of “stylometrics” that could help computers be better chess teachers or more humanlike in their game play. Alarmingly, the system could also be used to help identify and track people who think their online behaviour is anonymous (匿名的).
Chess-playing software, such as Deep Blue and AlphaZero, has long been superhuman. But Ashton Anderson, a computer scientist at the University of Toronto, says the chess engines play almost an “alien (外星人的) style” that isn’t very instructive for those seeking to learn or improve their skills. They’d do better to tailor their advice to individual players. But first they’d need to acquire a player’s unique form.
To design and train their AI, the researchers collected more than 50 million human games and fed them into a network. The researchers tested the system by seeing how well it distinguished one player from another. They gave the system 100 games from each of about 3,000 known players, and 100 fresh games from an unknown player. The system looked for the best match and identified the unknown player 86% of the time, the researchers reported last month at the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS). “We didn’t quite believe the results,” says Reid Mcllroy Young, a student in Anderson’s lab and the paper’s primary author. A non-AI method was only 28% accurate.
“The work is really cool,” says Noam Brown, a research scientist at Meta. “Style-aware AI could transform other computer interactions.”
The researchers are aware of the privacy risks posed by the system, which could be used to expose anonymous chess players online. And in theory, they say, given the right data sets, such systems could identify people based on the habits of their driving or the timing and location of their cellphone use.
NeurIPS organizers found the study technically impressive but ethically (道德上) questionable, and accepted it on condition that the researchers detail the privacy risks. Anderson says they’ve decided, for now, not to release the software.
( )32.What advance in AI technology is described
A.Tracking people’s unacceptable behaviour.
B.Identifying different people’s handwriting.
C.Behaving like humans when playing chess.
D.Recognizing different human chess players.
( )33.Why does Anderson describe chess engines’ style as alien
A.They have exceptional but unhelpful ability.
B.They outdo individual players in skill learning.
C.They instruct players in an extremely distinctive style.
D.They are outstanding in acquiring a player’s unique form.
( )34.What does Para.3 mainly talk about concerning the new AI system
A.Its primary aim.
B.Its development process.
C.Its wide application.
D.Its significance to players.
( )35.What is NeurIPS organizers’ attitude towards the style-aware AI
A.Careful. B.Favourable.
C.Uninterested. D.Disappointed.

One of the joys of being a beauty journalist is the helpful advice. A skin expert once looked at my face and said, “You eat lots of sugar, don’t you ” 36. , but the fact that it was obvious from looking at my skin was not welcome news. It’s called glycation (糖化), and occurs when sugar attaches to fats and proteins. 37. . Sugar fiends tend to have poor skins as well in places such as the upper lip, because proteins that work to make the skin smooth break down.
Added sugar should make up at most 5% of your diet, which is 30g, or seven teaspoons of sugar a day. Sleep can also harm our tolerance of sugar, so can stress. There is evidence to suggest that reducing your sugar level can have a positive impact on your skin’s condition. 38. . But the best way to cut out sugar is to be aware of what you’re eating. Read nutritional labels and keep away from processed foods.
39. . Sugar is a source of energy and is found in fruit, which has fibre and other key nutrition that are beneficial to a healthy body. And there’s some evidence that eating fruit may help improve skin moisturizing (湿润), which can contribute to smooth skins.
Facial expert Dr Preema Vig says: “40. , targeted skin care can also relieve the damaging effects.” A useful skin care option is to apply face cream to slow down protein decrease and glycation.

The morning sun shone through the curtains as I stood in the kitchen, carefully preparing lunch for my daughter, Emma. Today was a big day—her first day of elementary school. I packed her lunch in a bright, reusable lunchbox, the same kind my mother used to pack for me when I was a student.
“Mum, why can’t I use a plastic lunchbox like the other kids ” Emma asked, frowning in confusion. I knelt down to her level, moving a piece of hair out of her face. “This lunchbox is part of our family tradition, sweetheart. When I was your age, your grandmother would pack my lunch in a similar container every day.” “But why, mum ” she persisted(坚持不懈). “Isn’t it easier to just throw away a plastic lunchbox ”
I smiled and remembered my own school days, feeling frustrated that I couldn’t just use a disposable box like everyone else. My mother would patiently explain, “We have to start with small actions, Mija. These little things add up to make a big difference.” I remembered feeling out of place at school as my friends casually threw their plastic boxes into the trash, while I carefully saved my container to take back home. It wasn’t until I was older that I fully appreciated the lesson my mother was teaching me.
Then I patiently explained to Emma, “Your grandmother always said that we have to take care of our planet. By using these reusable lunchboxes, we help reduce waste and protect the environment. It’s a small way to make a big difference.”
Emma looked at the lunchbox thoughtfully. “So, do I have to wash it after I eat ” “Yes,” I nodded. “It’s important to take care of it and bring it back home so we can use it again. It’s not just about the lunchbox, Emma. It’s about learning to be responsible and thinking about how our actions affect the world around us.”
Paragraph 1:
As I walked Emma to the school bus, I put the lunchbox into her hands and told her it was special once again.

Paragraph 2:
Later that evening, I heard Emma’s excited voice in the kitchen.
