(2025·河南·中考真题)
Sunshine does make people happier. Imagine how cheerful you are when it clears up after long cold rainy days. Let’s discover science behind sunlight.
Sunlight causes you to produce a chemical (化学物质) called serotonin (血清素). When you are exposed to sunlight, your body will make more serotonin. Higher levels of serotonin will keep you in good spirits. At night, when there is little or no light, your body produces another chemical-melatonin (褪黑激素). It helps your body relax and will make you feel tired, which can prepare you for a good night’s sleep. You should keep a good balance between these two chemicals.
However, for many people, it is hard to balance sunlight with darkness. People who stay indoors a lot may not get enough sunlight. The light in a house is usually about 100 times less than that outside on a sunny day. That’s why it is believed that those people should get outside in the sunshine. They can get some exercise, enjoy the fresh air and be happy, all at the same time.
There are places where it gets dark for a long time in the winter. People in those places are easier to get seasonal affective disorder (SAD). People with SAD usually go through bad experiences such as low energy and sadness. The most common treatment for those people is to sit under bright artificial (人工的) lights for some time.
The roles that sunshine plays in people’s life are more than those above. For example, your body produces Vitamin D (维生素D) from sunlight, which is important for being healthy. In fact, there is more science about sunlight for you to discover. So next time, when you notice the sunshine on your shoulder, take a moment to think, “Why do we love sunshine ”

An old saying used for forecasting (预测) the weather says, “Red sky at night, sailors’ delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors (水手) take warning.” Is the saying true It turns out that it is. A red sky at sunset may mean that there are clear skies to the west, where the sun sets. A red sky at sunrise usually means that the clear weather has already passed, so storms might be coming.
Forecasting the weather has been practiced for thousands of years. In the 5th century BC, the Greeks sent out forecasts to sailors. They used signs in nature to forecast the weather. But today, meteorologists send exact forecasts further in advance (提前). They use scientific instruments to study weather conditions around the world and make forecasts. Pilots, farmers and many other people depend on these forecasts. Luckily, most of us can simply look on the smart phone or turn on the TV to find out what kind of weather is coming.
If you are looking for some signs of the weather, pay attention to nature. There are two basic rules used in weather forecasting: Weather generally moves from west to east, and low air pressure (压力) usually means rain or snow. So pay attention to the signs. If rainbows form in the west at sunrise, the sun is on the way. Smell the flowers—their smells are stronger in wet air. What are the ants doing Are they moving to higher ground This could mean a drop in air pressure. Are the birds flying low or high Falling air pressure may influence birds’ ears, so they fly low. And if the sky is red at sunset, you might plan a picnic for the next day!

Energy is the ability to do work. Solar energy comes from the Sun. There is also energy that comes from wind and water.
But do you know that energy can come from people, too When you pedal a bike, you produce energy. You use your legs to push the pedals. Your energy is transferred (转移) to the bike. That makes the bike move.
Now imagine riding your bike to create enough power to run a computer. Some students at one school did just that! They jumped on bikes connected to generators (发电机) and pedaled in place. Soon they were producing electricity. This energy is needed to run their computers.
Here is how bicycle-powered energy works. When a student pedals the bike, the back wheel spins. The wheel spins the generator. The generator produces electricity. As long as a student pedals the bicycle, electricity moves through the generator. The electricity can be used right away. This energy can also be stored and used later.
People use bicycle-powered energy to run small devices (设备) such as small televisions and fans. They often use less than 100 watts per hour. However, it would be a mistake to use pedal power to run a fridge. This large machine often uses more than 700 watts per hour. The electricity for these machines comes from power lines overhead or underground.
Pedal power can be seen in schools, gyms, and homes. What a fun way to provide electricity!

There’s nothing quite like falling sound asleep after a full day of work. Like people, animals need to rest after working hard. Some animals sleep in water. Others dig holes under the ground. Some even sleep high in trees or under leaves. But they all find a way to rest.
Some animals in the sea sleep in strange ways. Fish sleep with their eyes open. They seem to look ahead far into the sea while they rest. Sea otters sometimes sleep in beds of the plants that grow in the sea. This keeps them from moving away. Parrotfish blow something from their mouths when they are ready to sleep. Then a bubble (气泡) will be formed around them. The bubble protects them from harm while they sleep.
Some animals sleep under the ground. Chipmunks (花栗鼠) sleep curled up (蜷缩) in a ball. Their beds are made of leaves and grass. In winter, they sleep for two weeks and wake up to eat the stored food. Then they go back to sleep for another two weeks before waking up again. Some desert frogs dig underground holes during the hot, dry season. A frog may stay in its hole for months.
High above the ground, monkeys find leafy places in trees each evening before they sleep. The tall trees help to keep monkeys safe during the night. Some insects even sleep under the leaf that will be their next meal. A bee may climb down into a flower to rest. When it climbs out the next morning, it is rested and ready for work.

Every living thing needs to reproduce. Reproducing means creating more members of your group. In order for plants to reproduce, they have to spread their seeds (种子) to other areas. Plants have developed all kinds of ways to do this.
The simplest way is gravity. Many seeds are inside of fruit. When a piece of fruit gets too heavy, it falls from a tree to the ground. Sometimes animals will pick up the fruit and drop it in another area. That helps move the seed even farther away. Apples spread this way.
Other plants use wind to spread their seeds. Dandelions are a good example of this. Dandelion seeds are so light that when wind blows, it carries dandelion seeds to new places. Maple (枫树) seeds also use wind. Their seeds are connected with long, thin leaves that look like wings. When the seed falls from the tree, its “wings” help it fly farther from the tree.
Some animals help plants spread their seeds. The animals eat the seeds. While the seed is in the animal’s body, it stays whole. When the seed leaves the animal, it’s in a new place.
Ants also help spread seeds. Some seeds have a special smell that attracts ants. The ants bring the seeds back to their home, which of course is underground. They only eat part of the seed. They leave the rest of the seed underground. After that, the seed can start growing.

(2025·河南平顶山·三模)There are lots of things that are good for your brain. Reading, for example, helps your brain to grow and work better. Solving puzzles (拼图) can help, too. Scientists now find out another way of bringing health to brains: exercising.
Babies need exercise for their brains to fully grow. Meanwhile, exercise improves children’s attention and helps them do better at school. In the elderly, exercise can help to keep their minds sharp. They can notice or understand things quickly. Exercise also helps blood flow to the brain. The brain needs oxygen (氧气) from blood. Without oxygen, the brain would stop working.
Babies do not have to try to exercise. They are almost always moving. Developing new skills like sitting, standing, walking, running and jumping forces their brains to grow.
As children get older, exercise is still important for the brains. Scientists did an experiment. They found two groups of children between 7 and 9 years old. One group exercised for an hour after school. The other group did not. Scientists then gave both groups a number of brain tests. The kids who had exercised were quicker to learn than those who had not exercised.
Finally, exercise helps adults think quickly. The older people become, the smaller parts of the brain they will get. This can make it harder for old people to remember things. For example, grown-ups who exercised for 30 minutes, five times a week did better on brain tests than grown-ups who did not exercise as much.
Exercise is also good for the patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默病), which harms the brain and causes people to lose their memories.

On April 19th, a half marathon was held in Beijing. About 12,000 runners took part. On a separate track, beside the human runners, 21 human-like robots took the same challenge. There have been robot races before, but not this challenging. It was the first race of its kind. Six robots finished the race though the distance (距离) was quite difficult for them.
The robots that raced were in different shapes and sizes. The largest, called “Tiangong Ultra”, was 180 cm tall. The smallest, called “Little Giant”, was just under 75 cm tall. Each traveled with support workers and a car holding supply parts and even replacement robots. Support workers carried devices (设备) to control their robots. Some workers followed their robots; others led them.
The early part of the race was the easiest because the course was flat. Later, things became more difficult. The course had 14 turns, and there were small hills to run up or down. As with human runners, low power was a problem for the robots, too. Tiangong fell once because of low power. The same thing happened to other robots, too. The biggest challenge was probably overheating. It was cool in the morning, but as the day heated up, workers had to help the robots to keep cool. At one point, Little Giant had smoke coming out of its head.
The first robot to cross the finish line was Tiangong. It finished the race in 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 42 seconds. Second and third place went to two different versions of the same small robot, N2.
For the robots, the goal of the race wasn’t to win, it was to finish. Though some robots didn’t finish, their efforts produced a lot of information that will help their developers improve future robots.

What will the world of tomorrow be like Many people today believe that technology is going to help solve some problems we have today. New technology may solve old problems, and it may also create new ones. No technology is perfect. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Here are three examples.
When we dream about the future, many of us think that we will be able to fly to the sky in our own flying cars. We could fly at 480 km per hour, avoiding traffic lights and busy roads. However, if too many flying cars are in the air, there will be trouble with traffic control.
3D printing is another new technology for the future. 3D printers are already used to make life-size models of car parts, and man-made body parts, like ears. As we move into the future, 3D printing will change the way we make things and the way we treat sick people. The disadvantage is that such a machine is very expensive.
Finally, people are trying to make a robot suit. This is an electronic suit. It allows people to lift heavy things and walk a long way. It might help people walk again after an illness or an accident. However, the biggest obstacle at the moment is the cost.
It is easy to imagine a future. We will be able to fly to work, print out a new pair of shoes or lift a car above our heads. Although there are some problems to solve, we can certainly dream of a world. In this world, technology makes people’s life easier and safer, and it can solve some of the most difficult problems we have today.

Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, while causing fewer injuries (伤害), research shows. It does, however, have its own problem.
Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触) with the ground at all times. It’s this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.
________. According to most calculations (计算), race walkers moving at a speed of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories (卡路里) per hour. Although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1,000 or more calories per hour, it is about twice as many as they would burn while walking.
“However, race walking does not hit the body as much as running does,” Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with about four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step.
As a result, she says, “some of the injuries connected with running, such as a runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers.” But the sport’s strange form does place lots of stress on the ankles (脚踝) and hips (臀部), so people with a history of such injuries might want to be careful when trying the sport. “In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult (咨询) a coach or experienced racer to learn proper skills,” she says. It takes some practice.

If certain foods aren’t eaten fast enough, molds (霉菌) may say, “Finders keepers!” and own the foods. But what exactly are the molds, and how do they grow on our foods
Molds are simple living things that are neither plants nor animals. They need the right food, temperature and some water to grow. Like plants, they have roots that can reach into whatever they are growing on. They also have a stalk (茎). And at the top of the stalk they grow and give out spores (孢子). The spores spread by traveling over air or water. When one lands on something that gives it what it needs to live, it takes root and grows.
There are some ways to stop molds from growing. Molds often develop more slowly in cold temperatures, so many fresh foods last longer if kept in a fridge. And since molds need water, dry foods can stay mold-free for a while, too. Very high heat kills many mold spores before they get a chance to grow. By cooking foods and then taking out air, we can store frozen and canned food for a long time.
Mold spores can be unhealthy, so if you see foods with molds, avoid eating them. Sometimes the moldy part can be cut off, and the rest is OK to eat. But always ask an adult how to deal with a kind of moldy food.
Mold isn’t all bad news. Some foods, like certain cheeses are made with eatable molds. And in the natural world, molds help things break down. But in general, you will want to keep mold away from you and your foods.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. With a little bit of organization and planning, you can do some cleaning, and create a more organized and stress-free space.
Give away unwanted things. Cleaning is an important process to go through once in a while, especially when you have a lot of things you don’t need or use. Not only does it make your home look and feel tidier, but it also helps deal with any negative (消极的) energy that may remain. You can give away unwanted things that you no longer need.
Clean one room at a time. When you clean your home, it’s important to clean one room at a time. This will help you stay organized. Start with the room that you use the most or the room that needs the most attention. If you have a lot of things that you don’t need, start with smaller areas like your desk. Break down the task into smaller goals, and take your time to make sure each area is cleaned and organized.
Label. The key to cleaning is to keep the same things together and to label your boxes well. Write on the box which room it needs to go to. Also, include what kinds of things are packed in the box. Yes, it takes a little time to do this, but you’ll be so thankful that you once did it. This helps you find what you need.

Do you like taking and sharing selfies They’ve been among the most commonly shared types of pictures by users. Even LinkedIn, the world-famous job website, is filled with selfies. Now, researchers are actively studying the influence of selfies on people.
A recent study shows taking selfies can create the wrong idea of a thinner appearance. People believe girls look thinner in selfie photos than in those taken from other angles (角度). The study asked 272 volunteers to look at photos of 10 models dressed in exercise clothing. The models were photographed from three different angles: a selfie angle, a chin-down angle, and a straight-on angle. The researchers found the volunteers thought the models in the selfie photos were much thinner than in the other two angles.
The researchers also found there is a connection between social media use and people’s satisfaction with their physical appearance. However, the researchers pointed out several disadvantages of the study, such as a small number of volunteers and a lack (缺少) of good matching of photo angles between models. They could have influenced the judgments.
The future study could help us learn more. For example, it could look into how taking pictures from different angles affect how people judge different body shapes. It could also check if a person’s own height to-weight ratio (how tall and heavy they are) could change the way they judge others in photos.
“Many of us see selfies every day when we are on social media. We know filters (滤镜) can change the way bodies appear. The research suggests the angle from which the photo is taken can change our judgments about body size. So when we look at pictures on the Internet, even simple unfiltered selfies, what we see is not necessarily the same as real life,” the writers of the study said.

Do you know that elephants can use names Humans love to give things names. We name our children, our pets and sometimes even our cars. But according to scientists, we may not be the only ones. The research has suggested that elephants, just like us, use names to call each other.
Elephants communicate by using sounds. Besides their famous trumpeting (喇叭) noise, they also use a kind of low sounds that humans can’t hear. The researchers collected a lot of elephant sounds in Africa. They used a machine to study the sounds they heard and named 469 special elephant “calls”.
The leader of the research said that elephants have specific calls for each other. They respond when a call is sent to them and pay little attention to the call for others. The researchers also found that elephants don’t always use names when communicating with each other. They do it more often when they are far apart and when adult elephants are talking to the young. Adult elephants are found to use names more often than the young. It suggests that calling names may be a skill that has to be learned over time.
The researchers tested the findings by playing elephant calls to a small group of the animals. In the test, the elephants responded actively when they heard recordings of their family members calling their names. This provides evidence (证据) to show that elephants can recognize their names.
The study opens a door into how elephants’ mind works. If we can know how they communicate, we may be able to communicate with them more directly and live with them better.

Birds are important friends in our cities. They sing to us and help keep the environment clean. But city life can be hard for birds. We should help them by making our cities more bird-friendly.
One easy way to help is by planting trees and flowers in our gardens, schools or parks. Birds love to eat the seeds and insects that these plants attract. Having more plants can also give birds places to build their nests and rest.
Another way to help birds is by reducing noise and light pollution. Loud noises can scare birds away from their homes, and bright light at night can confuse (使迷惑) them. We can use quieter machines and turn off lights when we don’t need them.
People can also help by cleaning up litter. Rubbish can hurt birds if they try to eat it or get caught in it. Keeping our cities clean is good for both birds and humans.
Schools and community groups can organize bird-watching activities. These activities help us learn more about the birds around us and how we can protect them. When we understand birds better, we can find more ways to help them.
Using technology can also help us protect birds. For example, apps can tell us where birds like to live and what they need to survive. This information can help us make better decisions about how to care for birds in our cities.
In conclusion, there are many ways we can use to help birds in our cities. By following these ways, we can make our cities better places for birds to live.

You may feel that math is difficult and boring. Is it possible that you’ve been looking at math in the wrong way
Numbers are beautiful
There is math hidden in beautiful human bodies. Measure the length from your head to your belly button (肚脐) and from your belly button to your feet. The ratio (比例) of these two numbers is always around 0.618. This is the golden ratio, which can be seen everywhere, like in nature, music and paintings.
In Chinese poems, we can also see the beauty of numbers. As Li Bai wrote, “My skiff (小船) has left ten thousand mountains far away”, “A thousand miles in one day”—all these numbers show how fast Li Bai traveled and how happy he felt.
Curves (曲线) are beautiful
“Sine curves” are beautiful. They go towards the two opposite directions on and on without ever ending. When you look at them, you may feel like standing by the sea and watching the waves slowly moving. When listening to music, the sound waves from guitars or pianos are made up of sine curves. “Tangent curve” is like a waterfall, just as Li Bai wrote, “dashing down three thousand feet from on high”.
Formulas (公式) are beautiful
There are some amazing formulas. In a right-angled triangle, the square of the longest side is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. How amazing! Just as Chinese-American mathematician Chern Shingshen said, “Math is fun!”

Do you know that there may be hundreds of magnets in your home Where are they You can’t see most of them. But they’re inside your telephone, hair dryer and computer. And most of the electricity that runs these things comes from magnetism.
Magnetism is a force that can’t be seen. This force only pulls on some metals (金属), such as the doors of the cars or simply the keys, but it will not pull on the paper, or on the wood, either. Magnetism flows (流动) through a magnet. It goes in one end and out the other. These two ends are the north and south poles (极). The force flows out the north pole and back in the south pole. You can use two magnets to feel magnetism. The north pole of one magnet will attract the south pole of the other one. Try to push the two north poles together, you will find it is not easy! Two north poles will always repel each other. So will two south poles.
Magnets are used in many fields. One bank card can have millions of magnets. These magnets are tiny. Each tiny magnet points in its own direction. The different directions of the magnets make a code (代码). Computers read the code. Putting a bank card near a powerful magnet can mess up or erase the code. Magnets are used to suspend (悬浮) some high-speed trains above the tracks. Instead of having wheels like regular trains, these trains in China actually fly as they travel. They travel at a top speed of about 267 miles (430 km) per hour. This makes for a fast, smooth ride.
Doctors use a very powerful magnet to look inside a person’s body. It helps doctors see the inside illness of the patients without having to cut them open.
Magnets are fun. They’re also really useful. Every time you watch television or even turn on a light, you are using magnets.

Can you think of a way of cleaning dirty water using the sun In this activity, you will make a “solar still (太阳能蒸馏器)”. Let’s get started!
You will need the following materials: a wide plastic basin (盆), a smaller glass for collecting the clean water, a large piece of plastic paper, a thin string (绳), salt and a stone.
Step 1 Make the Salty Water
Get some water from the tap and pour it into the wide plastic basin. Add salt to the water and mix them.
Step 2 Put the Collecting Glass
Take the smaller glass and carefully place it right in the middle of the plastic basin. Make sure the glass stands straight and doesn’t touch the sides of the basin.
Step 3 Cover the Basin
Take the large piece of plastic paper and put it over the top of the plastic basin. Then, use the thin string to start at one side of the plastic paper and wrap (缠绕) it around.
Step 4 Place the Stone.
Pick up the stone and put it in the middle of the plastic paper, just above the collecting glass. The stone will make the plastic paper bend (倾斜) a little bit in the middle. This bend is important to make water run into the collecting glass.
Step 5 Let the Sun Work and Watch
Move the whole solar still outside where the sun can shine on it. Sit and watch carefully. As the sun heats the water in the basin, the water will start to turn into vapor. The vapor will go up and hit the plastic paper. Then the vapor gets together and drops into the collecting glass. Taste it, and you’ll find it is clean, not salty.

After a 10-year project to count tuna and other large fish in the world’s oceans, scientists have made a very surprising discovery: these fish are almost gone. Because of too much fishing, almost 90 percent of the worldwide population of large fish—the ones we usually eat— has disappeared. If we don’t act, these animals will totally disappear. That will influence every animal in the ocean.
The demand for fish is growing. Almost a billion people around the world get their protein (蛋白质) mostly from fish. Doctors praise seafood for being low in fat. But what seems like a healthy choice for humans is causing a disaster to our oceans. “People are consuming (消费) too much,” says Lance Morgan, a scientist at the Marine Conservation Biology Institute.
A dish of tuna in restaurants costs more than just one animal’s life. When fish like tuna disappear from the ecosystem (生态系统), the ocean’s food chain (链) breaks down. Animals such as sharks, which normally eat tuna, may die because they find no food.
The news may be scary, but taking action from now on can prevent harm that hasn’t happened yet. World organizations are ordering countries to stop fishing too much. The Monterey Bay Aquarium gives seafood choices to anyone hoping to keep healthy without destroying the environment.
“If you care about wildlife, first spend time and think about your own values and beliefs,” says Morgan. “Then decide what you’re going to eat.”

At the Badaling Great Wall in Beijing, it used to take a 50-minute walk to get food and water. Now, people can order on their phones, and drones (无人机) carry these things in just a few minutes. These drones also help by taking away garbage from tourists on their way back. This is just one example of how drones are widely used in China.
According to China Daily, by June, over 1.87 million drones in China had received permission (许可) to operate. The need for professional (专业的) drone pilots is growing. However, only about 225,000 people have the necessary licenses to fly them. This means there is a need of almost 1 million licensed drone pilots in the country.
“Since drones are used in many areas like farming, video filming, and environmental protection, drone pilots can work in various industries. The pay is also good. Some pilots get around 30,000 yuan per month,” China Daily reported. That’s why more people are training to get drone licenses.
In Hunan Province, a business offering such training has seen 400 to 500 people graduate so far this year. Before, there were only about 200 each year. To get a drone-flying license for distances under 500 meters, people need to take 44 hours of training. For longer distances, 56 hours are required.
Dong Jiamin, head of Xiaoxiang Yongxiang, said, “I believe drones are the future.” The excitement around drones is linked (连接) to the development of the low-altitude economy (经济). By 2030, this part of the economy could reach 2,000 billion yuan in China. Other industries, such as AI and green energy, are also expected to grow with it.

Your body parts don’t really “fall asleep”. Saying they fall asleep is just an expression. It describes the feeling you can get after you sleep on your arm or sit for a long time with your legs crossed.
It might feel as if “pins and needles (刺痛感)” are poking (刺) you, or you may not have any feeling in it at all! Your hand, foot, arm, or leg may feel thick and heavy, and when you poke it, you can’t really feel it. That’s because one or more nerves (神经) were pressed on for a long time.
In every part of your body, nerves carry information to and from your brain. Nerves look like a thread (线). Some are a bit thicker and some are thinner. Pressing down on information—senders can cut off their ability to pass along messages for the time being. It’s like what happens if you stand on a running hose and cut off the water. When you take your foot off the hose, the water can run again—although it may take a minute or two for the hose to get back into shape and let the water through.
In the same way, certain ways of sitting or standing, especially for a long time, can press on a nerve enough to cut off the information it is getting or sending. If you move your body enough to take pressure off of the nerve, the information can get through—but, as with the hose, it might take a few minutes for things to get back to the usual state.
The strange feeling usually goes away pretty quickly. Doctors say you may be able to get feeling back faster by gently shaking the body that fell asleep. Maybe that’s how your family wakes YOU up when an alarm clock doesn’t do the trick!

AI can help teenagers and students learn in several ways.
Personalized learning: AI can know better about students, including their advantages, weaknesses, skills, learning favorites, learning needs, and so on. Then it can create a proper learning plan for each student. This can help students focus on areas that they need to improve at their own speed.
Interactive learning: AI has the ability to make learning more interactive. With interactive learning apps and educational games, studying becomes much more interesting. For example, instead of just reading a boring textbook, students can play games to learn math or history. These apps and games catch students’ attention right away. Students can answer questions, play challenges, and even compete with others. This kind of learning is like having a fun conversation while studying. It’s much better than sitting alone and just reading or memorizing things. Active learning through AI helps students understand and remember knowledge better.
Automated (自动的) advice and help: AI can provide automated advice and answers to questions. It can examine students’ work and provide personalized help. For example, DeepSeek can answer students’ questions quickly in a private, low-pressure way. This kind of advice and answers can help students better understand knowledge and use their knowledge.
Greater resources (资源): AI can make many of the students’ learning resources richer and wider, like electronic textbooks, online courses, and study apps.
