How much do you know about Pierre de Coubertin
Pierre de Coubertin (1863-1937) is considered the father of the modern Olympic games. Born into a French aristocratic family, he became an academic and studied a broad range of topics, most notably education and history. From his work in education he came to see how organized sports helped balance body and mind to promote health. As a historian, he loved ancient Greece, and believed the ancient Olympics was a great example and high point in the history of mankind.
How much do you know about Pierre de Coubertin
Although some Olympic-style competitions had already been held in different countries, Pierre de Coubertin was the first to bring the idea of different countries competing together in a modern international competition. He found the IOC (International Olympic Committee) in 1894 and the first modern games were held two years later. Today the IOC continues to support and encourage the development of sports around the world.
Pierre de Coubertin wrote the Olympic motto “ Faster, higher, stronger”, which is still used today.
