The two carried on a short conversation about whether Ray had kids of his own Shayden could play with. Ray’s daughter is just a baby though, he told the boy.
The conversation inspired Ray to post the video on TikTok, hoping to connect with the boy’s family. “You never know what people are going through until you get a chance to talk to them. Are you interested in food, United States history, and the English language If so, American cookbooks provide wide information in all three subjects. The first, published in1796, started a market that continues in the 21st century with online publications of such works. And, the literature offers more than just recipes (食谱).
Amy Bentley is a food historian at New York University. She said that cookbooks from the 1800s were use a as lifestyle and household guides. They include food recipes, but they were not central to the books back then. “So, there re some recipes for food, but it could be recipes for a cleaning solvent (溶剂) or what to do when your child has been poisoned and how to clean,” Bentley said.
American Cookery by Amelia Simmons is the first cookbook published in the United States. Simmons wrote that her goal with the book was to improve the new generation of women in the US. And after the Civil War, cookbooks became more manifold. Writers started exploring local foods and customs in their work.
Some communities would put together a group cookbook to raise money. These cookbooks provide a ook into what the American middle class was eating throughout the years. Such works serve as a record of the traditions and interests of different neighbourhoods and groups.
Throughout the years cookbooks have signified humanity’s growth in knowledge, trends (趋势) and inventions. During the last part of the 19th century, for example, many recipes were informed by the dangers of food containing bacteria (细菌). Then, in the 1930s, refrigerators (冰箱) became common objects in American homes. But cookbooks are not complete reflections of American life. Publishing companies mostly control cookbook content. And, their main goal is to make money from book sales.
In the 21st century, with the growth of social media and food websites, publishing companies have less control. These new ways to share recipes have led to more open discussions about food and cooking. This gives the public more choices and power.

From checking social media every minute to being lost in computer games, we tend to overuse technology. “For many people, a moment without your phone or laptop in sight can feel like a lifetime,” the Daily Mail commented.
A computer model called Mindy may make many people to think twice. A team from the US-based company Toll Free Forwarding built a 3-D model to uncover the harmful effects technology can have on human bodies in less than 800 years.
“Spending hours looking down at your phone harms your neck and throws your spine (脊椎) off balance,” explained Caleb Backe, a health and wellness expert in the US. Then, the muscles in our neck need to spend extra effort to support the head, making our back bent (驼背) and neck wide. “The way we hold our phones can cause stress in certain points of contact — causing text claw (手机手),” Nikola Djordjevic, a practicing physician in Serbia, told the team. It affects the elbows too, causing pain in the arm. That’s why Mindy has a 90-degree elbow, and her hands look like she’s always holding a mobile phone.
Some people also commented that human evolution (进化) may not work this way. They believe that only features with actual benefits would be kept throughout the years. For example, features that can increase the rate of survival, instead of the negative influence of technology. However, current human lifestyles still raise concerns. A model called Emma was built by researchers in the UK in 2019 to show how the way people work at their desks could change them in 20 years.
The research team built Emma based on the health issues mentioned by over 3,000 workers in France, Germany and the UK. Emma’s back stays bent, and her legs are swollen (肿胀的) due to the time people spend in front of computers. With little time spent outdoors and in the sun, her skin is gray, too.
32.What’s the function of Paragraph 1
A.To start a debate. B.To introduce the topic.
C.To give suggestions. D.To add background information.
33.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A.The advanced design of Mindy.
B.The influence of the computer model.
C.The n me people spend on the mobile phones.
D.The bad effects of mobile phones on our bodies.
34.What does Emma look like
A.Unhealthy. B.Tall. C.Thin. D.Beautiful.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text

C.Technology Might Change Our Body Shape
D.People Should Stay Away from Computer Games

It was a hot day in the middle of July. I decided to walk to the neighbourhood store where it sold my favourite thing, ice cream. I pulled a friend towards the ice cream store, almost passing out from the burning sun on the way.
As we walked on, my friend kept saying that it was too hot. She thought that she was stupid to decide to come with me to buy ice cream. I felt sorry and tried to encourage her. “We’re almost there. Just think of the cool and sweet taste of ice cream in your mouth. It’ll be worth the walk,” I told her. But I had to admit that the store was quite far from our houses. During the journey, my mouth began to become dry and I wanted to drink.
When we were about a block away from the store, I noticed an old lady who was walking in our direction. She was about 70 years old. She had a big back problem, so she was unable to keep her back straight. She was struggling, pushing a shopping cart (购物车) full of things like the soap, bread and water. With each step towards her, we began to see her appearance more clearly. It appeared that she was often unhappy and easy to get angry.
I looked at my friend to see if she had noticed her. I could see that she had and that she disliked the old lady due to the lady’s appearance. As we approached the lady pushing the shopping cart, my friend directed me away from the old lady and the cart.
I began to observe other passers-by. They were also trying to avoid her. Suddenly I heard a loud sound behind me. I quickly turned around to see what it was. I found the lady’s cart had been knocked over by something on the ground.

I’m talking about being polite and how it makes life better for everyone. I was lucky to learn these simple rules from my father when I was your age. These rules improved my life in school and work, so I want to share them with you all as well.
First, never make fun of others for making mistakes. Second, always let people speak and listen to them closely. And most importantly, treat others the way you want to be treated. Don’t worry about writing these down. Instead, I’ ll share a paper with these rules listed. Before we review the next rules, I’d like some of you to present a story with the class about a very polite person you know.

67.范文
Things in the shopping cart like the soap all dropped on the ground. I watched in shock as the lady bent down slowly and tried hard to collect her things. I turned to my friend and asked, “Shall we go and help her ” “It is not we who knocked her shopping cart over,” my friend said impatiently, walking ahead. I stood there for a moment, suddenly feeling sorry for this pitiful lady. “I'll help her,” I said with determination.
Then we quickly walked towards the lady. “Let me help you,” I said as I helped her get the cart up. The lady looked up and said tearfully, “Thank you!” Then I helped her put things back into her cart. To my surprise, some passers-by joined me, including my friend. With everything put into her cart, my friend and I helped push it to her house. If it were not for the incident, we would have had delicious ice cream to eat, but we didn't feel regretful, for what we did was meaningful.
