When I wake up on summer morning, I know I am going to my favorite place to volunteer and make a difference in someone’s life just by being with him or her—a summer school for autistic (患孤独症的) children.
By helping the kids read or do math, I am not only teaching important skills but also helping them feel like any other kid. There are many wrong ideas about autism. The kids I work with can think and feel. They need help only in certain areas.
Of course, each kid is special. For example, some kids like to draw, and others like to sing.
At the school, the kids learn through about 20 activities. These activities can help them learn skills they will need later in life.
The very first day I volunteered, a boy came up to me, put his hand on my shoulder, and said “Hello.” From then on, I knew I could make a difference.
Another boy loved to have me read books that can help him learn to read. Sometimes he could be encouraged to read a few words or sentences. Finally, one day during reading practice, he read nearly 220 words himself!
Summer school is also a time for fun. Last summer, bagpipe(风笛)players came to perform. Most of us had our hands over our ears because they were so loud. When they asked for a volunteer from the audience, one girl raised her hand as high as she could, got up on stage, and even tried the bagpipes in front of everyone.
Through these experiences, I realize that the challenges these kids face do not stop them from doing many amazing things. I’m teaching them, but they are teaching me more.
21. According to Paragraph 2, many people think autistic kids .
A. can’t read or do math B. don’t have important skills
C. don’t play with other kids D. can’t think or feel
22. The author believed he could make a difference when___. .
A. a boy greeted him actively B. a boy let him read books
C. a boy could read by himself D. a girl tried the bagpipes
23. The phrase "these experiences" in the last paragraph refers to the following EXCEPT _____.
A. "I" read the books for kids
B. a boy read nearly 220 words himself?
C. a girl tried the bagpipes on stage as a volunteer?
D. a boy said hello to "me" politely
24. What does the author mainly talk about in the passage?
A. His teaching experience in a summer holiday.
B. How to make a difference in others’ lives.
C. His experience as a volunteer in a special summer school.
D. Autistic children’s hard life.

There are a number of different ways to study a language, each of which has advantages and disadvantages. You may find a combination of these is a best choice for you.
If you can find a course in the language you want to learn in your country, this is quite a good way to study. A variety of courses are usually available, including part-time and full-time courses. If you look around, you can probably find a course that suits your needs.
The main advantage of such courses is that you’ll have a teacher to provide you with instructions, support and with whom to practice your language. You will also be studying with others who are at more or less the same level and you can exchange ideas with them and help one another.
One choice is to study a language in a country where it’s spoken. There are many schools teaching English, French, Spanish, Italian and German, but far fewer teaching other languages. The main advantage of studying abroad is that you are totally in the language, not just in class, but the rest of the time as well. As a result, you can make rapid progress.
The main disadvantage of studying abroad is the cost, not just of your course, but also of your food and travel. However, if you’re a native speaker of English, you could get a job teaching English in a country where the language you want to learn is spoken.
Studying online is also a good choice. There are plenty to choose from a lot of languages. Many are free but there are some you have to pay for. Some of the paid ones provide support from teachers via email, chat programs, video conferencing, telephone or even face to face.
25. Studying in your country has many advantages except that _____.
A. there are many courses to choose from
B. you can study with others of the same level
C. all the courses are free of charge
D. the teacher can offer you instructions and practice
26. Compared with two other ways, the obvious disadvantage of studying abroad lies in its _____.
A. various courses B. high cost C. studying time D. job chances
27. The online courses ________.
A. are all free of charge B. can’t be found everywhere
C. can be easily taken on the Internet D. are all supported by teachers
28. What can we learn from this passage?
A. Studying abroad is the only good way to study English.
B. All the online courses are very easy to study.
C. If you study a language in your own country, you can study with more partners of the same level.
D. You can get any job you like after studying abroad.

India is home to more hungry children than any other country. A school-lunch program feeds 120 million students there.
Narasimha Das is on his way to feed 169,379 hungry children. Das is in charge of a kitchen in Vrindaban. The town is about a three-hour driving from India's capital, New Delhi. Das gets to work at 3: 00 am. Thirty men are already working with wheat flour and vegetables. They will make tens of thousands of rounds of bread. It will be brought to 1,516 schools in and around Vrindaban.
Going to school is difficult for more than 13 million children in India. They must go to work instead, or go hungry. That's why India began the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, the largest school-lunch program in the world. A free lunch encourages children to come to school and gives them the energy they need to focus on learning. The program began in the 1960s.
The kitchen in Vrindaban is run by the Akshaya Patra Foundation. It is one of the lunch program's biggest partners. "Just $ 11.50 can feed one child for an entire year," Madhu Sridhar, president of Akshaya Patra USA, told Time For Kids.
The program is a "powerful evidence of what's possible when people work together," says US President Barack Obama. To find out how you can help, go to food foreducation. org.
The Akshaya Patra food truck has already arrived at the Gopalgarh Primary School. Since the program started two months ago, school attendance has gone up steadily, and the number of underweight children has gone down. Children in this school can get an unlimited amount of food as long as they finish what's on their plates.
33. The kitchen in Vrindaban supplies food to_________.
A. the poor B. the old
C. university teachers D. school children
34. Why do many children in India have difficulty going to school?
A. Because they live too far away from schools.
B. Because there are not enough teachers available.
C. Because they have to work to avoid going hungry.
D. Because they have to stay at home to help with the housework.
35. We can infer from the last paragraph that_________.
A. more and more children attend school just for the lunch
B. children can't get whatever amount of food unconditionally
C. the Gopalgarh Primary School has benefited from the program for years
D. the program is intended to provide a healthy diet for underweight children

Nowadays, surfing 61 Internet is becoming more and more popular, especially among our teenagers. Generally, students both in Senior High and in Junior High are 62 (interest) in playing computer games, 63 can have a bad influence on their study. What’s worse, the more they go to the cybercafe, the poorer their grades will be. Teachers and parents are quite concerned about it.
Recently, a survey has been made that even some boy students climb over the walls 64 (get) out of their school late into the night, making their way to bars to enjoy computer games. 65 (safe) must be first,as we know. Who knows what will happen when they are trying to leap themselves over the barriers? Dear me! What if they fall down to the ground and get injured? Even though they do this as carefully as 66 (possibly), it is still dangerous to leave themselves alone in the bars because those 67 take drugs often rob people of their money. The addicts usually care about 68 but money and their needs. Sometimes they hurt 69 kill others for no reason! Life belongs to us only once so we have to treasure it.
So we sincerely hope that teenagers can keep away from any cybercafe. As far as I’m concerned, our government should take measures to punish whoever allows teenagers to enter the bars. Something must 70 (do) to protect our teenagers and offer them a bright future. Long live a harmonious society!
