第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
You can air fry almost anything. But, there are foods that just shouldn’t be seen near an air fryer. Before cooking with your air fryer, see which foods won’t work — even though they may be tempting to throw in there.
Fresh greens
Leafy greens, like spinach, will cook unevenly and are very likely to burn due to the air fryer’s high-speed air. When choosing vegetables to cook in the air fryer, make sure they hold some weight, like broccoli or zucchini. Kale chips may also be successful if coated in enough oil to weigh them down.
Whole roasts
The apparent issue with whole roasts is whether or not it will even fit properly into an air fryer basket, but even if it does fit, it’s best to just stick to the regular oven. The roast will not cook evenly, with the part closest to the heat source likely to burn by the time the part furthest away is safe to eat. The problem comes down to overcrowding.
Cheese
Who wouldn’t love to instantly make some fried cheese to snack on Since the air fryer isn’t truly “frying” the food, placing cheese in it without some sort of coating will just melt the cheese into a puddle and create a mess you don’t want to clean up.
Battered foods
Unless the food is pre-fried and frozen, you’ll want to avoid placing wet batter in the air fryer. Aside from the obvious mess it will create, wet batter won’t set the way it does when it’s submerged in oil, meaning the food won’t have that crunchy shell.
1. Why is it not recommended to cook fresh leafy greens like spinach in an air fryer
A. They don’t hold enough weight.
B. They cook unevenly and burn easily.
C. They aren’t coated in oil to weigh them down.
D. They require much preparation time to be successful.
2. What is the main problem with cooking whole roasts in an air fryer
A. The size of them makes them hard to fit.
B. The skin of them usually becomes too dry.
C. No proper circulation of hot air causes uneven cooking.
D. It takes much longer to cook them than in a regular oven.
3. What do cheese and battered foods have in common when using an air fryer
A. They must be coated for preparation.
B. They should be frozen before cooking.
C. They can be cooked directly without issues.
D. They’ll cause problems without proper handling.
B
There was a handful of common clay in the bank of a river. But it had high thoughts of its own value, and wonderful dreams of the great place which it was to fill in the world when the time came for its virtues to be discovered.
One day the clay felt itself carried far away over a rough and stony road. But it was not discouraged, for it said to itself: “This is necessary. The path to glory is always rugged. Now I am on my way to play a great part in the world.”
But the hard journey was nothing, compared with the suffering that came after it. The clay was put into a container and mixed and beaten. It seemed almost unbearable. But there was comfort in the thought that something very fine and noble was certainly coming out of all this trouble. The clay felt sure that, if it could only wait long enough, a wonderful reward was in store for it.
Then an unknown hand put it into an oven, and fires were kindled about it — fierce and penetrating. But through all, the clay held itself together and endured its trials, in the confidence of a great future. At last the baking was finished. The clay was set down upon a board, in the cool air, under the blue sky. The suffering was passed. The reward was at hand.
Then the clay saw the reward of all its patience and pain — a common flower-pot, straight and ugly. It felt that it was not destined for a king’s house, nor for a palace of art, because it was made without glory or beauty or honor. Many days it passed in depression.
After a while it was filled with earth, and something was buried into the middle of the earth. After that, it was set in a greenhouse, where the sunlight fell warm upon it, and day by day as it waited, something was stirring within it — a new hope. Still it was ignorant, and knew not what the new hope meant.
One day the clay was carried into a great church. It had a fine part to play in the world. Glorious music flowed over it. Still it could not understand. The other vessel told it, “You are carrying a royal lily, and the heart of it is like pure gold. The people look toward you because the root of it is in your heart.” Then the clay was content, because, though an earthen pot, it held so great a treasure.
4. How did the clay feel when it was carried over a rough and stony road
A. Calm and ambitious B. Excited and joyful
C. Confident and hopeful D. Expectant and persistent
5. What motivated the clay to endure the harsh treatments based on paragraphs 3-4
A. The firm belief that its sufferings would lead to a rewarding future.
B. The assumption that it would be decorated carefully after the baking.
C. The thought that its sufferings were necessary to gain a special shape.
D. The expectation that the trials would shape it into a noble and useful object.
6. What can be inferred from the clay’s final role
A. Location decides an object’s worth.
B. Ordinary forms can hold great value.
C. Grand expectations always come true.
D. Suffering always brings instant rewards.
7. Which of the following would be the most appropriate title for the passage
A. No pain, no gain.
B. Slow and steady wins the race.
C. Every cloud has a silver lining.
D. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
C
The idea of space-based solar power (SBSP) — using satellites to collect energy from the sun and “beam” it to collection points on Earth — has been around since at least the late 1960s. Despite its huge potential, the concept has not gained sufficient attention due to cost and technological hurdles.
We already harvest energy from the sun. It’s collected directly through what we generally call solar power. This includes different technologies such as photovoltaics (PV, 光伏发电) and solar-thermal energy. The sun’s energy is also gathered indirectly: wind energy is an example of this, because breezes are generated by uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun. But these green forms of power generation have limitations. They take up lots of space on land and are limited by the availability of light and wind. For example, solar farms don’t collect energy at night and gather less of it in winter and on cloudy days.
PV in orbit won’t be limited by the onset of night. A satellite in geostationary orbit (GEO) — a circular orbit around 36,000 km above the Earth — is exposed to the Sun for more than 99% of the time during a whole year. This allows it to produce green energy 24/7.
Transferring energy collected in space to the ground requires wireless power transmission. Using microwaves for this minimizes the energy lost in the atmosphere, even through cloudy skies. The microwave beam sent by the satellite will be focused towards the ground station, where antennas (天线) change the electromagnetic waves (电磁波) back into electricity. The ground station will need to have a diameter (直径) of 5 km, or more at high latitudes. However, this is still smaller than the areas of land needed to produce the same amount of power using solar or wind.
An SBSP mission will be challenging — and risks still need to be fully assessed. While the electricity produced is fully green, the impact of the pollution from hundreds of heavy-lift launches is difficult to predict. Additionally, controlling such a large structure in space will require substantial amounts of fuel, which involves engineers working with sometimes very poisonous chemicals.
The challenge of building platforms like this in space may seem frightening, but space-based solar power is technologically practicable. To be economically workable, it requires large-scale engineering, and therefore long-term and decisive commitment from governments and space agencies. But with all that in place, SBSP could make a fundamental contribution to delivering net zero by 2050 with sustainable, clean energy from space.
8. What is a common limitation of traditional solar and wind energy
A. They rely on the use of poisonous chemicals.
B. They are difficult to transfer over long distances.
C. They are affected by the availability of light and wind.
D. They require large-scale engineering for construction.
9. Why does the author mention the diameter of the ground station in paragraph 4
A. To emphasize the high cost of building space-based solar power facilities.
B. To prove the complexity of changing electromagnetic waves into electricity.
C. To illustrate the immaturity of the technology for wireless power transmission.
D. To show higher efficiency of space-based solar power than using solar or wind.
10. Which of the following is ONE risk of space-based solar power (SBSP)
A. The large structure in space.
B. Challenging mission of SBSP.
C. Excessive land use for ground stations.
D. Unpredictable pollution from launches.
11. According to the passage, the future development of SBSP mainly depends on ________.
A. the governments’ and space agencies’ long-term and firm support
B. the reduction of the poisonous chemicals used in space engineering
C. the steady improvement of wireless power transmission technology
D. the assessment of the impact of heavy-lift launches on the environment
D
Today’s AI technology allows people of different cultures to communicate instantly and effortlessly with one another. We have Google Translate. We have DeepL. We have ChatGPT and so on. Today it’s a piece of cake to send an email in a tongue you don’t know a word of. You just click on “Translate” and presto! Wow! Isn’t the soon-to-arrive world where everyone can effortlessly speak every language just glorious In fact, I see this as a great tragedy. I see it as the beginning of the end of the age-old tradition of learning foreign languages.
Speaking any language, for me, is a living, dynamic process that is surrounded by my own unique humanness, with all its weaknesses and strengths. When I speak any language, I am always searching for the most appropriate word or idiom, frequently hesitating; constantly joking by playing with ambiguity; having fun by putting on droll accents; etc. How is all of this wildly bubbling richness in Language a going to be mirrored in real time in Language B by a mechanical device that has nothing of those qualities driving it, that has no sense of humor, that has no understanding of irony (讽刺) or self-mockery, that has no awareness of how phrases are unconsciously blended, and so on
For me, using a language is the very essence of being human. Through my word choices and tiny hesitations, I am revealing who I am. Today, though, it strikes me as possible that humans are collectively going to give in and throw in the towel as far as foreign languages are concerned. Are we language users going to hand over all engagement with other tongues to chatbots If everything we might ever wish for is just handed to us for free on a silver platter, then what, I wonder, is the purpose of living
When children first hear the sounds of another language, they can’t help but wonder: What in the world would it feel like to speak that language Such eager childlike curiosity might seem irrepressible. But what if that human curiosity is suddenly snuffed out forever by AI When we collectively abandon the age-old challenge of learning the languages of other lands, when we give up that challenge to ultrarapid machines, then we will have lost a major part of what it is to be human and alive.
12. Why does the author list examples of AI translation tools
A. To showcase the convenience modern technology has brought.
B. To introduce the topic and set up the opposing view for criticism.
C. To prove the unnecessary nature of present multilingual communication.
D. To compare their efficiency with challenges of human language learning.
13. What can be inferred from the underlined sentences in paragraph 2
A. AI translation can’t provide appropriate word or idiom.
B. Only humans can communicate efficiently in languages.
C. Human language use is a complex and personal process.
D. Humor and self-mockery are difficult to translate accurately.
14. The author’s series of questions in paragraph 3 are intended to ________.
A. demonstrate the superiority of human communication
B. encourage the reflection on the value of active engagement
C. explain life’s purpose of pursuing technological advancement
D. show purposeless existence of human without foreign language learning
15. Which of the following best summarizes the main idea of the last paragraph
A. Children’s curiosity is the driving force for language learning.
B. AI has brought more convenience to language communication.
C. The traditional way of learning foreign languages must be reformed.
D. Humans’ nature and vitality may suffer due to ultrarapid machines now.

One Saturday afternoon, my phone rang. A young boy’s hesitant voice explained that he had been walking a dog in the forest — the same winding trails where I used to walk May, my late therapy dog (治疗犬) —when he spotted something metal in the grass. It was an old dog tag (狗牌) , bearing my name, address and number.
When I arrived, three boys — none older than ten—stood waiting. The oldest held the tag carefully. They found it while returning a dog after their weekly volunteer shift in the animal shelter — they always helped at weekends, walking anxious dogs, cleaning the doghouses or naming shy puppies. The moment I took it, my breath caught. That little piece of metal held so many memories.
May had golden far that shone brightly in sunlight and would wag her fluffy tail excitedly whenever she was happy. Her big, round eyes always radiated a gentle warmth.
I shared stories about her decade as a therapy dog. How she spent years visiting hospitals and nursing homes, how she would curl up beside those who needed her most.
I remembered the day she lost her tag. She’d comforted a girl patient until sunset, her collar mysteriously bare when we got home.
“She passed away peacefully in my arms — free from illness. She wasn’t just a dog,” I said softly, "She was a companion to those who felt hopeless and lonely, and to me, of course.” The boys listened intently, their eyes wide and wet.
As I showed pictures of my golden-furred girl, the boys lit up. The youngest exclaimed, “She is like the golden retriever (金毛寻回犬) in the animal shelter!” The oldest boy’s eyes sparkled. The three exchanged excited glances, whispering urgently. The two younger boys stared at their leader with silent intensity, as if willing him to speak. The oldest hesitated, but then pointed to the tag in my hand.

【答案】Dear classmates,
I’m excited to share our group’s handicraft today. We made a mini-model of our school using waste cardboard boxes. It has small classrooms, a tiny playground, and even a little library, all carefully crafted.
The reason for creating it is multifaceted. Firstly, we want to raise environmental awareness. By reusing waste materials, we show that trash can be turned into treasure. Secondly, our school holds many precious memories. This model serves as a reminder to cherish our time here.
That’s all. Thank you for listening!

“Can we keep it for a while ” he asked.I hesitated but seeing the earnest hope in their eyes, I nodded. “Only if you promise to return it,” I said, smiling. The boys erupted into cheers, promising to cherish the tag as if it were a sacred relic. Over the next few weeks, they visited often, sharing stories of their volunteer work and asking endless questions about May. Each time, the tag accompanied them, a silent bond between my past and their present.
I had nearly forgotten their “surprise” when a knock came one day.The three boys stood on my doorstep, the youngest clutching a beautifully wrapped box. Inside lay a hand-painted plaque with May’s name and a golden retriever silhouette, crafted from recycled wood. “We made this for her,” the oldest boy said softly. “And for you, to remember her.” Tears welled as I hugged them, realizing May’s spirit lived on through their kindness — a legacy of compassion, woven into the hearts of these young volunteers.
