David became very interested in writing．He often wrote short stories and asked Mrs．Brown to read them．Mrs．Brown always corrected the mistakes he had made and gave him good advice to improve them．One year later，David joined the school newspaper and became an editor of it．He was no longer that boy who lacked self﹣confidence．He go this confidence and was hopeful about his future．
He succeeded in entering college and kept writing．Several years after graduating from college，he had his first book published．With some more books coming out，he became famous as a writer in his country．And he owed（归功于） his success to Mrs．Brown's encouragement．Without her encouragement，his life might be very different．

Another concern for most consumers is that they can't keep track of the sources of the food supplies in fast food restaurants． They never know about the living conditions of the animals killed for meat in those restaurants， like cows， pigs， and chicken． A recent study has suggested that bacteria have been found in about 38% fast food． Even some soft drinks are now infected by food﹣borne illnesses that usually come from meat．
Although fast food is one of the easiest and cheapest ways of eating， the health risks aren't worth your life， and risking your life for something that isn't good for you could cost thousands of dollars in hospital bills． It is important to eat healthily and make good choices when deciding what to put in your body． Don't be lazy and pick up fast food on your way home from work．

13．In 1989，fresh out of high school，I had the difficult task of choosing a career path before college started in three months．In those days in Pakistan，there were limited choices：becoming a doctor or an engineer，or entering the financial world after getting a business degree．I wasn't interested in engineering，so that I was left with medicine or business．I couldn't decide．
My uncle suggested that I do a work placement（实习） to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital．After that，I could make a decision．It seemed like a good idea．

I began thinking about my two experiences．The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere，better working hours and less stress．The hospital was full of excitement，but the studying and training was difficult．It seemed that the business choice was going to win out．
Near the end of my month at the hospital，I was driving home after an especially busy night call．In front of me was a public bus，with college students sitting on the top．As the driver weaved through （穿梭） traffic，I could see the boys shaking from side to side．

The girl looked at the young man and said， "OK，I will give you a dozen red roses for your dollars．'' The young man almost jumped into the air．He took the flowers and ran down the store．It was worth more than fifty dollars just to see that kind of excitement．
Eric ordered his own flowers and asked the girl to have it delivered to his mother．After that，with a relief he drove down the road．Not long after his driving，he saw the boy walking to a graveyard（墓地）．
