Shane Gross is from Saskatchewan, Canada, a province far away from the sea, so his first underwater experiences were in a cold, green lake with a disposable film camera. Despite this, he’s always been fascinated by the ocean, especially sharks, and watched Jaws countless times. After backpacking through Australia in 2009 and diving along the way, he decided to pursue his passion seriously. In 2011, he moved to the Bahamas to work as a dive instructor, which allowed him to spend more time in the water and improve his photography skills.
In 2017, while diving at one of their regular spots, “Sea Garden”, Gross and his girlfriend encountered a turtle (海龟). They were deeply upset at the terrible scene—the turtle was trapped, struggling, and ultimately dying. Realizing there was nothing they could do to save it, Gross removed the abandoned fishing line wrapped around the turtle and documented the moment. His photograph later won first place in the conservation category of the 2019 International Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition, bringing attention to the problem of sea waste that often goes unseen.
When asked about his approach to creating remarkable underwater photography, Shane Gross advises underwater photographers to go beyond just one image. He encourages them to document the entire scene they’re passionate about, even if it means taking some shots above the water. Once you have a story to tell, create a shot list and keep shooting until you have recorded it fully.
For Shane, spending time in the ocean is deeply fulfilling. “I live a marine (海洋的) lifestyle,” he says. “But most people don’t share this connection.” To bridge this gap, he created Bahamas Underwater, a book combining stories and vivid imagery to introduce people to marine ecosystems and their wonders. Shane recommends that taking time to admire the breathtaking views of the ocean should be the initial step toward creating meaningful change — a shift from indifference to active care.
24.What can we learn about Shane Gross from paragraph 1
A.He grew up in the coastal area. B.He longed to be a dive instructor.
C.He followed his childhood passion. D.He did academic research on sharks.
25.Why did Shane take a photo of the sea turtle
A.To criticize overfishing. B.To protect natural habitats.
C.To save the injured animal. D.To highlight marine pollution.
26.What is the key to good underwater photography according to paragraph 3
A.A large image. B.A unique scene. C.A complete story. D.A strong motivation.
27.What does Shane suggest as the first step toward caring for the ocean
A.Promoting green lifestyles. B.Appreciating ocean’s beauty.
C.Sharing marine knowledge. D.Documenting nature’s wonders.

Shortly after Snapchat released its My AI chatbot to all users last May, Diana Lee, a mother from East Prairie, Missouri, told her 13-year-old daughter to stay away from the feature.
“It’s a temporary solution until I know more about it and can set some healthy boundaries and guidelines,” said Lee, who works at a software company. She worries about how My AI presents itself to young users like her daughter on Snapchat.
My AI is powered by the viral AI chatbot tool ChatGPT and like ChatGPT, it can offer recommendations, answer questions and talk with users. But Snapchat’s version has some key differences: users can customize the chatbot’s name, design a custom avatar (定制头像) for it, and bring it into conversations with friends.
The net effect is that talking with Snapchat’s chatbot may feel less impersonal than visiting ChatGPT’s website. It also may be less clear you’re talking to a computer
“I don’t think I’m prepared to know how to teach my kid how to emotionally separate humans and machines when they essentially look the same from her point of view,” Lee said. “I just think there is a really clear line Snapchat is crossing.”
The new tool is facing oppositions not only from parents but also from some Snapchat users who are flooding the app with bad reviews in the app store and criticisms on social media over privacy concerns, “weird” exchanges and an inability to remove the feature from their chat feed unless they pay for unlocking it.
While some may find value in the tool, the mixed reactions hint at the risks companies face in launching new generative AI technology to their products, and particularly in products like Snapchat, whose users skew (偏向) younger.
Snapchat was an early launch partner when OpenAI opened up access to ChatGPT to third-party businesses, with many more expected to follow. Almost overnight, Snapchat has forced some families and lawmakers to deal with questions that may have seemed theoretical only months ago.
28.How does Snapchat’s My AI differ from ChatGPT according to the text
A.It cannot answer users’ questions.
B.It requires payment for all users.
C.It clearly identifies itself as a computer program.
D.Users can personalize it and add it to friend chats.
29.What concerns Diana Lee about My AI
A.Its high subscription cost.
B.Its technical failures in conversations.
C.Its unclear human-machine boundaries for teens.
D.Its competition with other chatbots like ChatGPT.
30.What is paragraph 6 mainly about
A.Public resistance and various complaints targeting My AI.
B.The technical advantages of My AI over traditional chatbots.
C.Government regulations on social media features.
D.Age characteristics of Snapchat’s primary users.
31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.OpenAI limits ChatGPT access to only a few businesses.
B.AI concerns have suddenly become urgent real-life issues.
C.Families and lawmakers had fully discussed AI problems earlier.
D.Snapchat’s action will discourage other companies from using AI.

A male humpback whale has made an extraordinary journey from South America to Africa — traveling more than 13,046 kilometers — the longest migration recorded for a single whale, a new study found. The brave marine (海洋的) giant’s journey also marks the first documentation of an adult male humpback traveling between the Pacific and Indian oceans. The humpback was first spotted off the coast of Colombia in 2013 and seen again a few years later not far from his original location. But in 2022, the whale was unexpectedly detected in the Indian Ocean near Zanzibar, off the coast of East Africa.
The typical migration route for humpback whales can be longer than 8,000 kilometers in a single direction. “These animals are separate individuals, and they’ll do surprising things,” said study coauthor Ted Cheeseman, a marine biologist at Southern Cross University in Australia. “These oceans are very much connected spaces, and whales travel beyond borders.” To track the whale’s migration patterns, the study authors used a platform called Happy Whale. It allows scientists, researchers and whale watchers to contribute photos of their whale sightings.
Humpback whales live in oceans around the world and are known for completing some of the longest migrations of any mammal (哺乳动物), but this whale’s travels are special due to his movement between two breeding grounds (繁殖地). Humpback whales typically return to specific breeding locations each year. For example, one of the humpback populations in the North Pacific migrates to feed in waters around Alaska during the summer and spends the winter in waters around the Hawaiian Islands to breed and raise baby whales. This whale, however, migrated between two separate breeding groups in different oceans.
“Our thinking is that whales always go to the place where they came from,” said Ari Friedlaender, professor of ocean sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz, who was not involved in the study. “But there has to be some movement where you get some animal explorers that decide, for whatever reason, to follow a different path.”
32.What makes the humpback whale’s journey surprising
A.Its migration speed and length. B.Its migration mode and speed.
C.Its migration length and pattern. D.Its migration time and route.
33.How did the researchers track the whale’s migration route
A.By attaching satellite devices to the whale. B.Through a platform collecting sighting photos.
C.By monitoring whale sounds in the ocean. D.Through direct observations during ship voyages.
34.What does Ari Friedlaender’s words imply in the last paragraph
A.Whales consistently return to their original breeding sites.
B.Environmental changes are pushing whales to seek alternative routes.
C.Migration routes are mainly driven by temperature preferences.
D.Some whales might explore new paths for unexplored reasons.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.Ocean Giants: The Secret Lives of Humpback Whales
B.Beyond Borders: How Technology Tracks Whale Migration
C.The Lone Explorer: A Whale’s Record-Breaking Journey
D.Breeding Grounds Mystery: Why Whales Change Routes

In the age of constant connectivity through music, podcasts and calls, earphones have seemed to become a necessity. 36 This article will help you reduce the risk of ear-related issues and ensure a comfortable listening experience.
Choose the right type of earphones. In-ear headphones are a popular choice as they fit perfectly into the ear canal (耳道), blocking out outside noise and reducing the need to increase volume levels. 37 Besides, on-ear or over-ear headphones can be more comfortable for some individuals who have sensitive ear canals.
38 To prevent ear pain and potential hearing damage, experts recommend sticking to the 60/60 rule, which suggests listening at 60% volume for no more than 60 minutes at a time. It’s suggested that you should use built-in features on your device to track your listening time, which can be helpful in sticking to a safe limit.
Adjust the earphones properly. When fitting the earphones, adjust the earphone position until you find a comfortable and secure fit that provides good sound quality without causing pain. Remember to periodically check and readjust the earphones as needed, especially during physical activities or long listening periods. 39
Keep your ears clean. Regularly cleaning your ears is essential when it comes to pain-free listening with earphones. The build-up of earwax (耳垢) can not only affect the sound quality but also lead to discomfort and potential damage to the ear canal if left unattended. To prevent this, make sure to gently clean your ears with cotton sticks regularly. 40 That will push wax deeper and potentially cause damage.
A.Limit listening time.
B.Take regular listening breaks.
C.Clean your earphones with a soft cloth regularly.
D.Avoid putting the sticks too deep into the ear canal.
E.Finding the right fit ensures a pain-free experience.
F.This design prevents the earphones dropping out as well.
G.Enjoyable as they are, improper use of earphones can cause discomfort.

I came home from school and dropped my backpack on the floor. Before I could relax, my mom reminded me to finish any homework I had. Then she surprised me with exciting news — we were going to the night market! I jumped up and down with happiness.
At the night market, colorful lights and cheerful music surrounded us. When mom asked what I wanted to do first, I immediately pointed to a game where kids were throwing balls. As we got closer, I saw rows of fishbowls, each with a small fish swimming inside. My heart beat faster- I really wanted to play this game.
I asked the friendly stall (摊位) owner how it worked. He explained that for 2 RMB, I’d get one ball to throw. If it landed in a bowl, I’d win that fish. I turned to mom with hopeful eyes, but she shook her head. “Remember, we can’t have pets,” she said, “pets are a big responsibility.” I begged, promising to take good care of it.
The man smiled at mom and said, “Don’t worry ma’am. It’s actually very hard to win.” After some thought, mom agreed I could try once. “If you get it on your first try, you can keep the fish,” she said.
I studied the bowls carefully and noticed one with the most beautiful goldfish I’d ever seen. The little fish’s bright orange skin sparkled under the colorful lights. I knew I had to win that one. Taking a deep breath, I aimed carefully and threw the ball. Too nervous to watch, I squeezed my eyes shut.
Unexpectedly, I heard the man shout, “We have a winner!” My eyes flew open to see him holding out the bowl with my perfect goldfish. “I’m naming you Moebus!” I announced happily. I burst out laughing at Mom’s astonished expression — her eyes were wide and her mouth formed a little “o” shape. Holding Moebus, I suddenly realized that winning was easy, but keeping a promise to care for him would be harder.

第二节(满分25分)
When we got home, I told Mom not to worry. I promised I would take full responsibility for Moebus. I found a clean and big glass jar, filled it with fresh water, and carefully transferred Moebus into his new home. Every day after school, I would rush to Moebus, feed him on time, and change his water regularly. I even decorated his jar with small stones and colorful shells. Mom gradually saw my dedication and started to believe I could take good care of the little fish. But one day, Moebus suddenly became less active and didn’t eat much either.
To save Moebus, I quickly searched “goldfish care” online for help. I learned that goldfish need clean water, proper food, and enough space. I followed the advice strictly. I bought a water-purifying device and high-quality fish food. I also enlarged Moebus’ living space by getting a larger fish tank. With my efforts, Moebus became more and more active. Mom was really impressed by my perseverance. From then on, I understood that winning a prize is just a momentary joy, but fulfilling a promise brings long-lasting satisfaction and growth.

英语试题听力材料
1.
M: I hope you will have fun at Alice’s party tonight. I wish I could be there, but we’re leaving for our holiday so early tomorrow morning.
W: Oh, it doesn’t look like I’ll be going either. Now I just learned that there would be a math test tomorrow.
2.
M: Have you read any good books lately
W: Yes. I just finished a novel about time travel. It was interesting.
M: I’m not really into science fiction. I’m more into history books that tell the true stories of the past.
3.
M: How was your traveling abroad in Italy
W: Great. The old buildings and the weather didn’t disappoint, and I never expected that their coffee was that amazing. I didn’t think I could get used to the coffee here anymore.
4.
M: You were going a bit fast on that road. It’s a 30 mile per hour zone.
W: I know. I didn’t realize until we passed the sign. I’ll be more careful from now on.
M: We must stay under the limit, especially near schools.
5.
W: Is it three o’clock already
M: Yeah.
W: Oh no, I’m supposed to be meeting my dentist in 15 minutes. I should have left ages ago. But I’ve been so focused on finishing this report. I’ll have to call her on the way and apologize.
M: Don’t worry. It’ll be okay.
6.
M: Hey, Nadine, what’s wrong
W: Well, I forgot my homework this morning and now I’ve lost a book I was reading. I don’t know what to do now.
M: Have you tried looking for it in the classroom
W: Yeah, but I think I left it on the bus.
M: Maybe you should call the bus driver.
W: I did. No one has found it and it’s the one you lent me. I’m so sorry.
M: Oh no, I checked it out here. Let’s ask the librarian and see what we can do.
7.
M: So, Carrie, tell me about your previous work experience.
W: I have five years of experience in marketing where I managed social media posts and live events.
M: Impressive. What skills do you think you can bring to this role
W: I’m highly organized, creative and most importantly, I’m a great communicator.
M: How do you prefer to communicate with people
W: It depends. I always prefer conversations in person or over the phone, but for work, I often prefer email, so there is a record of the conversations.
M: That’s good. So why do you want to work for our company
W: I’m impressed by your strong company culture. I believe I can contribute positively to your team.
8.
W: I get 10 days of annual leave. I’d like to go traveling, but I don’t like package tours. Their schedules are even tighter than my work schedule.
M: I’m going to travel, too. You know I’ve just got a new car. What about traveling with me
W: That’s nice. Where do you want to go
M: I want to go to California or Nevada. What do you think
W: Well, I traveled to California last year. As for Nevada, I don’t think it is a good place to visit. How about Florida
M: Sounds great. We can go fishing and windsurfing there.
W: Well, I plan to enjoy sunshine and waves, and I’m looking forward to playing beach volleyball. When will we set off
M: Hmm, how about tomorrow afternoon
W: That would be perfect.
9.
W: Hey Terry, this charity fundraiser I’m organizing is going to be a big event.
M: Where are you hosting it Mary
W: Here in this coffee shop, there’s space for live music. Food and lots of activities for kids.
M: Oh, I assumed you would do it at a music hall.
W: We considered it, but it wasn’t available then. Then we decided either here or the park. Finally, we chose this shop as it’s more family friendly.
M: Yeah, that makes sense and I suppose this is more private compared to the park. What charity is it
W: A local animal shelter I thought this would be a great way to raise awareness and funds. They always need a little support.
M: That’s awesome. What can I do to help
W: Well, I was actually hoping you could lend me a hand with the music. You know, a lot of bands and I was thinking maybe you could help me book some acts for the event.
M: Sure, I’d be happy to help out. I’ll see what I can do.
10.
Good morning everyone. As a leader of the local government, I’m excited to announce the opening of the new community center in our town next month. The covered outside areas will host markets, too. It is designed to serve as a center for community activities and events. The gym will be equipped with the latest fitness equipment and will be open from six am to 10 PM daily. The library will have a wide range of books and will also provide free Internet. The meeting hall can be booked for events and will host regular community meetings. We encourage you to use these new spaces and participate in the activities. We believe this center will bring many benefits to our community, including many opportunities for personal, business and social development. We will have some special events hosted by some of our local cafes and restaurants for our opening.
